That's actually a good idea, its like making po idol or movie stars. Making these "heroes" is a good distraction. And its a lot cheaper then making a whole movie. I believe this is what the whole point of inventing medals was originally for. North Korea certainly did not come up with the idea.

I mean without jobs like this society can't function so those that do a great job should be recognized more often.

While the US doesn't have a comparable quantity awards and decorations for civilians, we definitely have, or have had, them for our military. I can _sort of_ understand the hate, _however_ as a veteran, I can also say that a military "salad bar" also serves as a quick, visible, and public resume/vitae. For example, I once had a WO who had a noticeable difference between his "service strips" and his "good cookie" award counts. When I started asking about the discrepancy, I learned a whole lot about him that I probably would not have learned otherwise! While there are many things about the military that I don't miss, one aspect that I honestly miss is the easy to see and quick to understand information that uniforms provide.
@wilmergarcia3577Ай бұрын
That’s what I was thinking too, being a Veteran I can appreciate a medal even if is not for intended purpose of having pride on your service. Medals in the military help get you promoted and you generally get treated better by higher ups which directly helps your quality of life.

I got to visit Germany in 2001 and while I was there, I saw the Berlin Wall Museum at Checkpoint Charlie. There was a huge glass case at the front of the museum that just had thousands of medals piled up in it. The caption said that these medals, mostly civil, were handed out by the East German government and that people just donated them to the museum after reunification. I guess that communist nations across the board have some kind of obsession with medals? The people who got them sure didn't feel the need to hang on to them, at least, once there was no legal penalty for giving them away.
@GoGoGoRunRunRunАй бұрын
Yeah, it's definitely a thing in socialist and communist countries.
@thomasjetzer2823Ай бұрын
Military dictatorships and Junta governments tend to have the same obsession. I would say that it's not so much a feature of communist regimes as it is of autocratic ones. All communist regimes are of course autocratic, but not all autocratic regimes are communist.
@Unknown_Genius27 күн бұрын
I mean, there's no need to hang onto them aside from remembering the past once a regime collapses. But yeah, they're given out by autocratic regimes a lot, pretty sure it's because they try to hit a sense of pride to further strengthen their might over people.
@GoGoGoRunRunRun27 күн бұрын
@Unknown_Genius Well, giving out medals is basically free (costs the government very little) and as we've seen in this video, there's a never ending supply of inspiration for new medals. I's say it's not only pride, it's also a factor to motivate people and give them a sense of achievement, even when there are very little opportunities for the individual. But yeah, it's also a way to prop up pride and give people the initiative to compete against each other (which helps the government mostly). Authocratic governments, no matter if it's on the socialist/communist side of the spectrum or on the fascist side of it have many things in common afterall.
@Unknown_Genius27 күн бұрын
@@GoGoGoRunRunRun Yup, Authocratic governments also barely differ honestly. Just have to take a look at the third reich and the soviet union, overall they've not been precisely too different in how they handled things. I mean titles are good, some even better than higher salary in some aspects. It has happened to me. I was a data analyst, with 80k annually. Work for 3 years, i could choose between a new title (junior data scientist) with 80k, the same salary or senior data analyst with 100k salary + bonus. Data analyst title could only get me so far. I chose a new title so i could learn new things, be familiar with data scientist job, leave for higher salary. Now i made 140k with data scientist title (still junior). I still have door for advancements in the future. You couldn't get a phd in data analytics, but you can get phd in data science/applied statistics. With that, i could possibly break 200k. With data analytics? No chance. 120k (or 150k if you're in big company) will probably be close to the limit. If you can take the higher title, please take it. At least this is my field. Idk about other fields.

@skipperclinton1087Ай бұрын
In the US military they just change the required criteria for eligibility. Bronze Stars given as an award for non combat accomplishments. Combat Action Ribbons for just being attached to a unit that was in contact and were awarded it. Back in the day, when officers only had NDSM to hang on their dress uniforms the USN came out with the "Sea Service Ribbon". An award for sea service when you're in the Navy? I do believe it's given if you're away from your homeport for longer than 6 month's. Heres the catch. If your ship is forward deployed, no Ribbon for you because your ship is homported outside the US. Whatever!

I used to be involved in various multilevel marketing businesses. When you can't afford to reward and motivate with money, medals and recognitions were the cheapest incentives for performance.

That's not socialism. Europe is a socialist society and it works pretty well there. That's just corruption and power projection. Where all the wealth is for one family to maintain their wealth. In the USA they are so stupid they don't know what socialism or capitalism is!

This isn’t socialism, it’s not even Communism. North Korea is a hereditary dictatorship ruled by the Kim family.

@@wizce04 it's nowhere near the definition of socialism but again Yankee people being uneducated to what socialism or capitalism is. Europe is a socialist society that's doing pretty well. North Keoran leadership Hoover's all the wealth to keep one family in power, that's just greed and NOT socialism.

The US didn't have to declare a peace because they never declared war. The US military hasn't made a formal declaration of war since June 5th 1942. Every military action since the end of WW2 has been unapproved by Congress and illegal. Lucky for the military, nobody seems to care what the constitution says. Why defend our freedoms and laws when we could be exploding civilians all over the world in the name of "democracy". Even if we won't put the choice about going to war to a democratic vote.
