Great lesson Rusty. Works well in A or G but how about E when the first position pentatonic is either at 12th fret (very high) or open? Any thoughts how best to approach these double stop ideas in E? Thanks.
@rustysguitar1 Жыл бұрын
Hey Mark, this works very well in the open E position. Hit the open G and B strings, then hammer on first fret of the G string. Then slide up to 4-3 and 6-5 of the G and B string’s. I use it that way all the time. I hope you have fun with it Mark. Thanks man.😎
@rajeshgumber363 Жыл бұрын
@@rustysguitar1 Hi Rusty, with the open E position, i was thinking more like the slide from 2-1 to 4-3 (G & B strings) to get the feel of the Amin to Bmin chords which implies the Emin Key. I think the 4-3 and 5-6 also works as you are getting the feel of Bmin to C#min which implies the Emaj key because the 5th of the chord which is B can be either major or minor.
@rustysguitar1 Жыл бұрын
@@rajeshgumber363 we are talking E major. E-A-B major chords. 1-4-5 progression. Thanks
@rajeshgumber363 Жыл бұрын
@@rustysguitar1 Thanks Rusty , could I ask what chords are being implied with the slide from 4-3 to 6-5 on G&B strings which you mention? helps me to understand the theory etc. Thanks
@rustysguitar1 Жыл бұрын
@@rajeshgumber363 A good way to think about it is E major to A major. The 4-3 double stop (G and B strings) implies E7 and the 6-5 (G and B strings) implies the A chord. And then 8-7 (G and B strings) implies the B chord. I will definitely expand on this topic in some upcoming videos. Thanks guys.👍

@@rustysguitar1You have made my morning a bit brighter with your prompt reply! I am an old (well, only 50 but I feel old) Gospel singer and a 4 track bedroom recording artist. 10 years ago I was struck with the realization that our hymns are dying and being forgotten. I want to keep them alive, so I sing hymns and old Hank Williams Gospel songs in a way that makes them feel fresh and hopefully engaging to the listener. Some time ago, my pastor called me out in front of the church and said I should make a CD (he didn't even know that is a lifelong dream for me). 2 years later I am now on my 3rd song of what will hopefully be a 10 song album. Because I am a diehard classic rock fan, I can't resist employing techniques that I hear in the music I grew up loving as I record songs that are most definitely not classic rock. In keeping with the traditions of the Beatles and other such bands of old, I have been timidly leaking out a "single and B side" ahead of the album and have received nothing but positive affirmation so far which I take as a sign that I am on the right path and am greatly encouraged to continue despite the tribulations that have greatly increased since I started. As long as the product is finished and delivered to my small church and whoever else wants it, I don't care if it kills me. Keep doing what you're doing. I've been wanting to learn more about double stops for years and this video is a Godsend!

By the way, Rusty, if you're looking for more lesson ideas, pedal points are quite awesome. They work in any scale and open up totally new sonic landscapes - definitely a way to "break out of the box" or a rut. My favourite way to play them are with scales available on open strings, which helps increase speed/alternate picking chops. (Or of course, just tune a suitable string to the desired note which isn't in standard tuning.) Just a thought.
