There are a bazillion variations available anywhere on the fretboard as long as they are of the chordal scale, but it can move into a whole new possible melodic variation too, there are major penta and minor scales that often get variously used across fusion styles, check out the guys like Mancuso fellow or a Tom Crane and his fellow clan types....playing standards is fun too, but it can get same'y pretty quick and send a player to sleep if not tastefully noodled with in shorter song styles...it's all good learning no less.

So use the pentatonic that matches the chord but target the 3rd as the target note . Do u hit the 3rd when chord switches or just as long as it’s being played.

Hey Rusty, this was a very informative video. You cleared up a lot of doubts that I had. I just had one question, I tried out some of this, but I just can't seem to get my solos to sound original. They all sound generic even if I follow the chord shapes while playing. Any tips?

Another excellent lesson! I kept falling for the same n00b trap of just sticking to the minor pentatonics right under that E cowboy chord, and it never even occurred to me to venture out forward with some major tones. But I'm with @thespian1961 from above in the comments; I don't think anybody would mind just one video about "Rusty" and all the wheres, whys and hows that got him to such a rockstar level. I mean, I've only been playing guitar three years this month, and all the other kids here at the old folk's home think I'm some sort of guitar wizard, when literally all I'm doing is following what I learn in these vidyas!
