Would be interested in hearing how the wealthy use donor-advised funds, charitable gift annuities, over-funded life insurance, and other ideas to avoid or defer taxes after “typical” vehicles (like IRAs, 401ks) are max’ed out.

Spot on, passive real estate is key. “Mailbox money” as they call it. Some operations pay out quarterly, others at the end upon maturity.

We are retirees a bit north of $5MM, a healthy pension and SS. With RMDs, IRMMA, and NIIT , we are getting seriously wacked with taxes, surcharges etc. Plan ahead. It can be painful.

Here is the important question (the elephant in the room): A wealthy person wants to preserve their wealth. Have these 'accredited' investment schemes historically produced better returns with less risk after fees and the inability to withdraw funds in times of trouble and lack of regulatory transparency have been taken into account than a 60/40 stock/bond portfolio or are these schemes usually a ploy to sucker wealthy people who want to 'play' the wealth game into parting with more of their money in exchange for lower long-term returns at substantial risk?

There's nothing wrong with having $5 million, $10 million, or $20 million and just investing in stocks and bonds. I know one retired guy who has $100 million, and it's only in a couple of stocks. Taxes? He just pays them. Estate planning? His daughter will get whatever she gets. Sure, financial advisors would yell at him, but what does he care?

I appreciate this. We’re around 8m and we just sold a biz which flipped our allocation to a much larger taxable investment allocation. We tick most of the boxes (a PE investment doing well, a commercial building with no mortgage and a long lease tenant)but it’s now well over 50 percent liquid assets. I’d be interested in how similar investors tilt into alts as I consider the building and our home part of the RE allocation since there’s no debt on either. I grew up in Naper too so some of these location videos are awfully familiar. 😊

I’m a new subscriber and am gaining some good insight as I just start to think about my path to retirement. In this video you talked about the 4 economic seasons. I’d love a video about the different kind of asset classes that preform well in each of the seasons. Thanks!

How do they overcome expenses? Hedge fund expenses are not designed to benefit the high net worth. Warren Buffets bet proved that.
