House of the Dragon has shown us a lot more then we previously knew about Dragons. One of the Higher mysteries of Dragons is how do the Targaryen's control dragons , if they control them at all. In this video I will go thru all of the clues to uncover the secret of dragon bonds. In House of the Dragon it looks like the dragon and the dragon rider are one and it seems to be this way in the ASOIAF books as well. This is so intriguing!! Thank you!! There’s a super interesting theory (I forget who originally thought it up 😅) that basically says that each dragon rider family in Valyria only had control over certain dragons (and their subsequent bloodline/eggs), because they had bound an ancestor who had died to a dragon (the dragon has 3 heads: the ancestor, the dragon, and the rider) via magic and therefore other dragons born from the same bloodline were always bound to the bloodline of the original dead and bound ancestor (if that makes any sense) and that could be why dragons are so bound to their rider because they’re so closely bonded to the bloodline. I feel like the soul shadow theory could go hand in hand with this!

It seems logical to me that the last rider has the more influence on a dragon's heart. In the case of Aemond with Vhagar, it's a bitter humor thing that he is the one who remarks "nephew" talking to Lucerys, being uncle for his mother's side and his dragon's heart being aunt for his father's side XD

if dragonbinder is actually a relic to bind to dragons, i bet that it would still need a dragonrider to use it. it could have either been used as a ceremonial object or in actual warfare to enhance the control of dragons during the peak of old valyria, back when there were something like 50 families who were blood of the dragon. jon might get his hands on dragonbinder as his cheat code to riding one of dany's dragons.

@@thatoneblackdude3333 i don't think the magic could ever apply to people outside of the core 50 families. why would they invent an artifact to allow non-magical people to wield the dragons? of course it would have to be a dragon-blood who can use the horn. jon knows literally nothing about how to be a dragonrider, so he is the perfect one to need a cheat code to get that instant connection that usually takes years and years of training and bonding between rider and dragon. that's what i meant by cheat code.

But my point is why would he need to do that if he can just ask Dany ? We know there going to be Ally's at some point so there's no reason for him to go through arbitrary and dubious means when he can just ask his future aunt wife .

@@thatoneblackdude3333 the bond is strictly between rider and dragon, so no amount of instruction from dany is going to make it happen for jon if he can't make the connection himself. as jon is an adult, i compare it to learning a language where it's just more intuitive and easier if you start learning a language as a child. it must be a special artifact if the old elites decided to make a magical dragon binder, so it must be some kind of bond enhancer imho. dany can't just "command" one of the dragons to bond with jon. that's not how the bonding works either. it's like how the book / show made it a point that some targs have a harder time than others bonding with a dragon, like aemond took a while to connect to a dragon. this could be the reason why the horn was invented in the first place, so that those who seem to be struggling to connect to a dragon could have this boost that will allow them to make that instant connection with the dragon that suits them best which would have taken more time and energy without the horn. it's unclear as to what faegon's real heritage is. having silver hair isn't an automatic indication of targ blood or magical blood. remember that only 50 families had the magic while families like the velaryons and celtigars were non-magical yet had that iconic silver hair nonetheless. faegon could just be a random normie with ancestry to non-magical valyrians.

@@maggyfrog course Danys help wouldn't garenty he gets one but neither does the dragon binder , jons only 16 in the books he's not a adult , of it's a bond inhanser then it's useless for Jon since he'd need to already have a bond to begin with . Of course Dany can't make her dragons bond with Jon but she can help hasen the process gourge isn't going to create some cheat code easy button especially not for our main heros jons going to claim a dragon the old fashion way just like Dany he's going to have to earn it otherwise it wouldn't be a achievement, plus this is all assuming eurion isn't talking out his ass and tye horn actually does what he says it does . Faegon is obviously a blackfaire it's written all over him he has dragon blood we just don't know how much as to gain a dragon.

It is clear that there has to be a permanent mental connection between mount and rider. But is it the same as warging? I suspect it isn't, or at least there is some difference. I think part of what makes Jon special is the blending of the two forms of bonding, the Stark and the Targaryen. This is why he is supposed to be the Prince that was Promised. It is likely it will be revealed, assuming GRRM actually finishes, that Jon can control any dragon, even ones that have bonded to other people.
