Please can you put timestamps where you use the various crayons? One word to the cat and I've lost which item you're reviewing. It doesn't have to be on the timeline, just a list in the description (with timestamps) would help. Thanks lots in anticipation.

My then three year old great-nephew tested all these to decided what he wanted to give to his cousin and next door neighbor friend, two other three year olds. He loved your swatching videos. Mr. Sketch is what he chose. The three of will be five this year and love water color, oil pastels, water color pencils. . . My refrigerator door is a full gallery.

Probably 20 years ago, I found a set of plastic crayons in an art store and they were decently vibrant and virtually indestructible. I went back and got their biggest set and showed an art teacher friend. She fell in love and started ordering them for her younger art classes and really enjoyed them - and they didn't roll off the desks or break when dropped. But we didn't see them anywhere else for a long time. It's funny to see several sets out now! They're a lot more durable and don't tempt kids to peel off the wrappers and leave scraps everywhere. Win!

The Crayola Color Sticks are actually woodless colored pencils ✏️ like the no longer available Prismacolor Art Stix. The Crayola Color Stix are watersoluble crayons more in the Caran Dashe Neocolor II type of crayons category. The difference is not just in the spelling. The Crayola Color Sticks can be sharpened and used as any woodless colored pencil. I love them for backgrounds and large areas as well as sharpened for smaller areas. I have found the lay down and blendability to be much different than the Crayola Colored Pencils and definitely different from Crayola Twistable Colored Pencils. Many colorist/artist would be quite surprised with the results. Just my very limited humble opinion. Enjoyed the video as always🙂

I always try to give my nephew quality supplies. Not saying he gets a box of Daniel Smith paint for his 10th birthday, but I feel there is no better way to discourage a child from art than to give them terrible products "for kidzzz" because, hey, they are ten, what do they know? Thank God I managed to talk my sister out of giving him one of those awful plastic toddler scissors when he was younger. Give them proper tools and supervise instead.

I recently gave in to the strong desire to have a set of Luminance color pencils. I bought the 40 color set from Dick Blick. (I've only just swatched them.) Their price, $87, was the same as Amazon and bc my order was over $59, I got free shipping. I wanted to give the sale to Blick's bc they really support artists and are very competitive in their pricing. Fortunately too, if I ever really want to go to their brick & mortar store, they have a store in DC, less than 10 miles from where we live in Md. But it's not a casual trip & I'd have to take the subway bc parking is difficult or too expensive. Just life in the city.

I have been to that Blick. I drove, and the parking was difficult. I will still go back. I got a lot of interesting bargains along with everything I was looking for except gel crayons. I haven't been in a while, but they had Prismacolor Art Stix, including the colorless blender. They told me they are not available online, but some stores still have stock.

I just came across your channel from a Google search! I was trying to find some "unbreakable crayons" for myself. I'm 23 and I love coloring with crayons. I love how they glide on paper, I love the look of them on paper. I also especially love using them in coloring books, I do a nice outline with them and gently color it in. They look more bold and they're way gentler on my wrists. I have an undiagnosed wrist issue that causes me extreme pain, so crayons are the best option for me. Anyway, I came here to say thank you for this video and I subscribed to your channel. I look forward to seeing more from you!

Great comparison video! I had purchased the Deli crayons earlier last year but found them lackluster and just went for the CD Neocolor I crayons. I love my Neocolor II and knew the CD brand is reliable on quality. I love the Neocolor I crayons as anticipated. I use them in mixed media art journaling mostly. I’ve been doing a lot of purging so I donated the Deli set. It at least feels good to pass things along to others or to charity and whittle my stash significantly. Yes, they are indeed useful. They feel great in the hand. I upgraded to those after using other non name plastic pastel holders, which did the job fine (and you can afford to have many!) But the Catan d'Ache feels so good in the hand. By the way, Koh-i-Noor also has a version of the oil/soft pastel holder ad well.

Thank you, Lindsay, I really appreciate the in-depth look at each of these products and how they perform on black, white and DuraLar! The acetate test was a surprise and a welcome one! ♥️👏🏻♥️ For my cardmaking, the Crayola Color Sticks would make more sense for base layer fill-in and then detailing in CP as I do have strength issues. For archival Fine Art though, the Caran d'Ache Neocolours will always have my priority. I got the Crayola Twistables as an option for Bible Journaling and they did a pretty good job and even for blending - they are more CP than crayon, aren't they?

Now that's a video for me, I LOVE crayons. Drawing with crayons is so much fun, they are like the little siblings of color pencils and oil pastels. When I just cannot get myself to work, I like to just play with my crayons. And I actually like using kids crayons for that because it doesn't feel serious or like work. I like Crayola, because nostalgia, but Maped is also good, Faber Castell and even the Ikea ones. For my actual art work my crayon choice is Neocolor 1. I really enjoy using them, and, coming to think about it, I think I do not even know of any other actual artist grade wax crayon. I can think of plenty of watercolor crayons for artists, and crayon-like things like the art sticks, or stuff for crafting, but is there even another actual artist grade wax crayon out there besides Neocolor 1? I don't think I have seen that. If there is, I would love to know so I could try it.

Hullo Lindsay, wonderful video and as always you tick all the boxes and make everyone want to run out and buy more supplies! I was also very impressed with Kasey Golden’s year of the crayon videos if you’re looking for some videos comparing crayons creating art pieces check her videos out! I tried the 10 packs of the CaranD’ache Neocolor 1 &2’s and I was more impressed with the 2’s as I am more about water soluble mediums. I got some Marabu crayons in a Scrawlrbox and I was going to get the set but Amazon recommended the KingArt brand of crayons and they work just like the Marabu sticks at a quarter of the price! I think there might be more pigment CaranD’ache sticks but as neither is going to end up into a original artwork to sell, they are mostly for practice and fun and they were great for that. I imagine they would be good in a coloring book too! Thanks again for creating a wonderful video that everyone can learn from. I look forward to the next entertaining/educational video from you!

Regarding the Caran d’Ache Swisscolor wax pastels - I bought the water soluble version as soon as I saw them at Blick, 2 or more years ago, to give to my kids. I have the full set of the Neocolor II wax pastels, and I was really amazed at how well the Swisscolor version performed. They weren’t the same as Neocolor II, but they were very good for a student grade art supply - activated very quickly and were very highly pigmented. I bought several sets for my family, and more for gifts for birthday presents for other children, and then the most recent set was different… as seems to keep happening with art supplies. They were very brittle/harder, and noticeably more difficult to activate, and not as pigmented. I don’t know if I just got a bad batch, or they have permanently changed. I was very disappointed because we loved this product, plus I expect a high quality product from Caran d’Ache. I cannot speak to to non-water-soluble version, though. They’re inexpensive enough that they are probably worth buying to test out.

They are absolutely gorgeous and fairly lightfast…and water soluble. It really is sad that Prismacolor is doing the “quantity over quality” corporate thing. Here is a bit of a vent about crayons versus markers. At some point over the past markers hit the market and became an instant hit with schools and children. I find them so limiting. I realise that there are blendable markers but I don't see them in schools. My grandchildren always want the markers. It is an easy way to lay down a saturated color, with limited color options. If drawing cartoons is the goal, they are a great choice. But if you want to great art with nuance, they do not work The standard markers do not blend well. It is hard for children to control line widthout unless they have another set, etc. etc. I have been convincing my 7 yo grand daughter to work with crayons more and I am happy about that. However I wish school teachers would strive to encourage using better art tools for better art.

Thank you so much Lindsey for crayon testing. I have regular crayola crayons,pencils,markers. Until now I forgot I have the twistables( So ashamed) I have them for awhile. I will definitely try the other crayola products..in my price range. Could you please explain stickiness, oil pastels, China markers, resist? I always learn so much from you. You make me feel like I know what I'm talking about. Lol. I need to shop my craft stash.😎🤗💖 tyfs

I hope I am not opening a floodgate, but have you tried Manley wax pastels? Also, I have the Posca wax pastels. They are nice but I think over priced/rated.

Thanks for reminding me that I ordered some Manleys a couple of months ago. I haven't even tried them yet, and until I read your comment I had actually entirely forgotten about them. 😅

@@justacatwhocantype They are nice. Comparable to Neocolor in feel but no lightfast information. I was impressed with my set of 30 so I got the fluorescent/pastel set.

Hi Lindsay! A very good comparison test. Have you ever heard of Mr. Crayon the artist. I don't believe he is still alive, but he did some beautiful portraits. I have always wondered what type of paper his used and how he blended his colors. Does anyone have any ideas on his techniques? Does anyone know the answer? Thanks Lindsay.

I'm not sold on the idea of plastic crayons over wax for kids. Considering how crumbly they were and the problem of microplastics, I'd leave those on the shelf.

Nope. Neocolor ll is my all time FAV. I wasn't paying attention. Nothing new in winter.

Would using the project crayons underneath as a base layer affect the lightfastness of your colored pencils?
@thefrugalcrafter
@thefrugalcrafter Жыл бұрын
Honestly it might. I would suggest the neocolor crayons if lightfastness is a concern.

I don't like them much. I didn't include them here because they are water soluble and these crayons are all water resistant.

That's what they are called. They are actually less breakable and smoother and recommended for younger kids 😆

They are wax crayons but they contain either polypropylene or polyethylene.I think the ones aimed at kids tend to contain PE while PP ones are more for industrial uses like marking stuff. But yeah, just a regular wax crayon that is given a different consistency by the addition of plastic.

I purchased JD Power Pastels a few years ago when they were discontinued at a clearance sale in Michael's. I was not impressed. I just couldn't get the hang of using them and they were very hard & waxy. I love JD products, but not this one. I ended up selling them. 🫤
