The bottle dance scene has always moved the hell out of me.

When my school did Fiddler they too did the bottle dance without rigged hats or Velcro anything. Let me tell you that is one of the biggest reasons I feel we aren't doing Fiddle for a few years.
@oliviakiss025 жыл бұрын
Caleb Scibbe we did it too but we just did it exactly this way, and if the bottle fell Perchik would catch it and pretend to drink from it

Did the show twice, 10 years apart and never used "tricks" with the bottles. Choreographer (my mother) said if a bottle was dropped, the dancer had to step out of "the line." A bottle was never dropped during any of the performances of either run! Not bad for community theater! Loved helping translate Jerome Robbins choreography from the book. Fiddler always makes me wish I were a guy dancer!

Wow. It's one thing to do the bottle dance without magnets or velcro or rigged hats. But these guys are doing it with *empty bottles*--not even colored water--which is taking it to a whole new level. I am in awe.

They keep the center of gravity in the middle of their bodies. You notice that everything from the waist up doesn't move. Well done.

When we did fiddler on the roof in high school I was the starting bottle dancer XD we used velcro though. When we first started learning it, we didn't realize we needed knee pads. We went out and bought those real quick, the first night we practiced we wrapped our knees in bubble wrap.

I was also the fiddler, and several other small characters I had like 8 costume changes XD

I saw this at a high school with 6 guys. I thought the bottles were attached but they bowed their heads and flipped the bottles off their heads into their in sync. It was great!

this is such an extraordinary dance and was humbling to see for the first time in Fiddler on the Roof. To see the men practice is equally the same!

Beautifully done! The movement, balance and grace is stunning. I love that you all went all in! And maybe this wasn’t your intention (hard to tell in writing), but I get the impression that you have a distaste for “tricks” like magnets or velcro. Nothing wrong with that of course, but to voice my perspective, in a real sense acting is all just tricks. Robert Houdin has a great quote: “A magician is an actor playing the part of a magician.” Tricks are necessary because the actor’s not actually magic. In a similar sense, using velcro or magnets don’t have to decrease the beauty of the performance, because the performers are playing the part of bottle dancers. It’s different, of course, because bottle dancing is actually possible, while being magic isn’t. And again, NOTHING wrong with doing it this way - it’s amazing! Just my thoughts. Thanks for sharing your talent!

Anyone know where I can buy some hats just like these? I'm costuming Fiddler on the Roof for a community theatre and they want to do the bottle dance with no tricks as well
@gourdguru Жыл бұрын
it's a fairly common older hat design, essentially it's a wool felt hat blank molded into a wide brim high crown fedora. look for things like "Wool felt hat blanks" online. similar hats were used during the settler/wild west era in america, so places that outfit revolutionary war and civil war reenactors might also have something serviceable.

@GoodspeedMusicals5 жыл бұрын
lol that may be the big cheat but at 8 shows a week for more than 14 weeks I bet our actors (and the union) are happier for having them :-)
