We use CLE for math, language arts, and reading. I am very happy with the program and progress of my children. This program is very solid. Like you mentioned in your video, I also love the quizzes and test at the end. Keeps me updated. I also like how it teaches independence on the children’s part as well. I like the check boxes after every step. The children go back and make sure they checked all the boxes and know that the work is completed. I can then begin to correct it very easily with teachers manual. We go over mistakes that same day or next depending. If any subjects in math are hard to comprehend or need further explanation, we go to youtube and watch math antics video together. Another bonus is that CLE teaches my children wonderful values. They are underrated and you just can’t find this quality of curriculum for this price these days! I

We've been using CLE math for 8 years now. One big thing I have always loved about it is how few moving parts there are - light unit and teacher book- that's it! Everything needed is included in those two books. I've used other curriculum for different subjects and there were workbooks, teacher book, answer guide, quiz book, quiz book answers, tests, test book answers...so many different books!! I don't have to keep track of or try to assemble each lesson for the day, it is all included within the light unit and teacher book.

Love CLE. So great for Learning to Read. We will be adding in Language Arts next year and keeping Reading. I am hoping once we get further along that the reading and LA will become more independent. I’ve seen so much progression with my son. I will be starting my next child on reading shortly. When the lessons become too lengthy, we split them into two days or more as needed. We homeschool year round, so I like the flexibility or taking more time if needed.

I love your videos! And I completely agree with staying the course on one type curriculum. Then you don't have "gaps." Our family actually does love MUS. And of course we had a little FOMO and tried a year of Teaching Textbooks. Halfway through that year, my oldest said, "Mama, please reorder Math U See. I just get it better." That's one of the beautiful things about homeschooling, we get to choose the curriculum/learning style that fits our kiddo best!!!

I have been homeschooling 8 years and have bounced around through Many different curricula...I 100% agree that the best idea is to find one and STICK WITH IT whenever possible...or try to switch it up as few times as you can. I don't recommend switching unless it is like Really obviously not right for your family.we have game plan now for my oldest that includes switching for highschool grades, but they flow into each other with no transition issues and that is really important.

We love CLE!!! We use the reading program. I got out of the LA and tried to go back but I had left it too long. We did CLE in grade 1 and I think 2 but it just required too much from me and I’m not very math minded. We switched to teaching textbooks and that works for us. We just couldn’t fall in love with Math.

I love seeing your CLE updates! Can I ask, do you do 1 math lesson a day? Regardless of length? Or do you break the lesson and review up between two days? Wondering this because you talked about lesson length and I as well have a problem letting work go undone before we move on.

Julie, how did the switch go for you and your family? I have one son that loves TGATB and asks to keep doing it year after year. My youngest son just finished their level 1 math, and I don’t feel like he’s getting it. I am thinking of switching him over to CLE for at least math. I’m just so nervous about it. Looks like he would go from what we are doing to level 200 in CLE according to the placement test. Which is right on target for us. Just wondering how the transition went for you guy? Thanks!
@juliequates9529
@juliequates9529 Жыл бұрын
@@Kelly_Mae we actually ended up going with Saxon which i love. But we needed to take a break and just do math facts for a while. TGATB was fun but I just didn't feel like he was retaining much. But I'm using CLE for another subject with my first grader and really enjoy it! Not much help there, but I think math facts then moving onto whatever curriculum is helpful for that age.

I LOVE CLE math! It has worked so well for my son. Something I would add…I think this math is advanced. My kiddo is a math whiz (definitely more math minded than me) and he is fine with the pacing. When I compared it to the Texas Educational Standards, it was quite ahead. I see that as a good thing, but I would want someone to know working below grade level is not a bad thing.
@ourthriftyhomeschool
@ourthriftyhomeschool 2 жыл бұрын
Yes! That is such a good point! I have one daughter working “below” grade level but it is probably still average level compared to some other curriculums and public schools. That is good to point out though, bc it can be discouraging to feel like your child is “behind” when they really are fine!

This was our first year homeschooling (4th) and we used Abeka. It’s soooo overwhelming. Someone recommended this to me. Do you think switching to 5th there will be enough review? Is it pretty independent?
@ourthriftyhomeschool

Yes! This would be a really great choice. It’s very independent. Just make sure you take the placement test to fit her in the right level.

I was wondering if you have thoughts about switching from MUS to CLE when a child has lots of "gaps." Because MUS doesn't teach the same things in the same order, my daughter, who just finished MUS Delta and will be going into 6th grade next year, does not know a lot of the concepts taught in CLE Math 3 or above. This would be things like weight and measurements, geometry concepts, etc. that were either not really taught in MUS or she hasn't seen it in a while because of their mastery approach. We've done about half of the placement test, but she seems to be discouraged because she doesn't know a lot of it. Would you go back to level 3 and just work through only the parts of the light units that she doesn't know? The same has happened with my [younger] son, but the gap is not as wide because he hasn't gone through as many levels of MUS. I am questioning why I haven't made the switch a long time ago, especially since I have been watching your channel for quite some time. Hopefully, this change works! We weren't super unhappy with MUS, but they were getting burnt out because of the focus on one thing for an entire book.
@ourthriftyhomeschool
@ourthriftyhomeschool Жыл бұрын
That is hard! I felt like we had a lot of gaps going from MUS to CLE also. But we just really focused on those things they didn’t know…made flash cards of measurements, and made my daughter study those everyday before her lesson. She eventually got most of it! I wouldn’t wait any longer. Add in extra practice worksheets or even apps if you need to to get those things learned. It will be worth the switch. And it’s so hard when they place “below” level, but you really need to just put her where she places so she doesn’t feel discouraged all the time. Good luck! ❤️
