How do we test the condition of your e-bike battery?

I find this quite shocking.. After only 15 full charges and just 6 months that it has lost so much capacity.. Bear in mind the £750 or so cost to replace a battery pack..

It depends on where its kept and if the owner has been keeping it either fully charged for way to long (believe it or not but being fully charged and left in storage can be bad) also if they have been leaving it for long periods of time with low to no charge in it. Then it's if the owner has stored it in very hot or cold conditions

@@MegaNayton i got 112 charge cycles out of my 400w batt and then it was down to less than 5 miles in range but i also use a dongle so expect that rate of usage will hammer the batts capacity but the price of them is a rip off and the new smart frame batts wont even work on my motor even tho it will fit the bike.

Hey there! I found your video while searching for explanations because I noticed my eMTB with a Bosch CX Gen 4 motor feels way less powerful compared to other newer eMTBs with the same motor. I have two Powertube 500Wh batteries that I use alternately. I think each battery has about 2,000 miles on it (not sure how to convert that to charge cycles). I recently replaced the Bosch motor, and the new one has only 1,000 miles on it. My dealer found an error code 0x606011 in the Bosch firmware when I took it in, but I didn't notice anything on my Purion display. As for the battery capacity, they both seem to be performing well. I haven't noticed any decrease in range. It's the reduced power that's got me worried.

Just a quick heads up to everybody riding with the Bosch system and anyone interested in getting a spare for those extra long rides. According to my LBS it seems that there are some dodgy copies currently doing the round that everybody should be made aware of, the kind of copied that can burn your house down to the ground, if you know what I mean. If you spot a deal that is too good to be true, walk away or at the very least, do your due diligence and insist with the seller that they provide evidence that the battery is 100% kosher with the production of s Bosch diagnostic report. You have been warned!

ebike vision make 3rd party packs for bosch bikes but there expensive and only work on some motors but as these bikes use can bus comms any other batt without this will not work anyway as the controller wont turn on.

The only reliable part of my Bosch system IS the battery. Mine is a 2019 500wh with about 500 cycles to date I run it down as best I can every ride and, i ride almost everyday. I charge it indoors at room temp w/a 4 amp unit I'm still getting good mileage with a slight drop off because of the winter conditions here on the wet coast of Canazuela

I am thinking of buying a 4 year old Kalkhoff with only 25 miles on the clock. I do not know if the battery has been properly looked after in that time. Is there a way of testing the battery to estimate when it might need replacing?

Hi Dave. Great and interesting video. Thanks for sharing. According to my counting, this tool can discharge the battery with 5 Amper. Can U tell me what is the cut off voltage of the tool? Because it can affect the capacitance measurement. If U have time, please make a test with a new battery pack, because I am interested in how big is the difference between the real (measured) and the nominal capacity (written to the pack datasheet). Hi Robert, not that would give a percentage of health but diagnostics gives a different type of result, your ears are a good test for ebike motors
