Hi Captain Joe, does your company have a policy on flying officers fraternizing with cabin crew?
@nestorlazaro8 жыл бұрын
Hi Joe, I don't know where to write this question. So I know that a commercial plane can fly for a couple minutes with 1 or 0 engines, but is there anything that a pilot can do if 1 engine fails during the first moments of taking off? Thank you for sharing with us such an amazing profession!
@Siatkowkarzadzi8 жыл бұрын
Every airplane is desgined to fly on at least half of engines working. So in 2-engine aircraft you can still fly on one engine. If engine fails before V1 you would abort takeoff but if it happenes after V1 you should continue. Then you climb at V2 speed. Of course flight performance is severly affected, however you can still keep flying (as mentioned even climb), make it back to the runway and land safely

There's no reason to use FSX over Prepar3d unless you have addons that don't work in Prepar3d and you can't do without them. Technically you're not supposed to buy it for casual flight simming, but I really doubt Lockheed cares enough to go after anyone for doing that.

When I was at school, I always dreamed of becoming an airline pilot and this is what I set my heart on. Then as I was about to leave school at 18 years old I caught an infection and was later diagnosed that I had developed type 1 diabetes. The infection had triggered the onset of diabetes. My dream of becoming an airline pilot had been shattered! - Such a shame! (((

Great presentation! Passed through that, but in military aviation. Although to unfamiliar looks like a mountain to climb, actually most of the stuff are already known from been a copilot. You know the aircraft you're flying, you know the airline procedures, because you are part of these, and you execute them every day. The major difference is that now being a captain you have to make decisions on any situation. That's the extra load that a captain is carrying. Which, again, is not something unfamiliar to an experienced co-pilot, because as a copilot you are the captains "consultant" on any situation, and have seen how captains react. Again...Congrats Joe!

Hi Joe, I have a question. On the Internet, especially here on KZbin, there is a lot of information about what goes on before a flight. The plight plan, the briefing, the pre-flight inspection, etc... But what happens after the plane got to destination, and the engines are shut off? Are there procedures to do on the plane to "correctly switch it off"? Is there a de-briefing with the crew? Is there a report log to write down for the company? Thanks for your videos. I love them. Bye.

Well, at your airline the current batch of upgrades do not go through a PICUS program, get only 9 simulator sessions including final check and zero flight time training, and only after that start with a five day theoretical course. No assessment or checking is done before entering the upgrade process. LIFUS is sequenced in four phases: zero flight time landings (first four sectors), LIFUS with LTC only, progression check, LIFUS with a normal FO and final line check. All in all 100 block hours, or about two to three months.

At Transavia (Netherlands) there's just a list. How earlier you got your job, the earlier you become a captain. So if there are 300 co-pilots who got there job before you, you'll have to wait for a couple of years. It's not based on skills and flight hours. It varies from airline to airline.

I have a question: Let's assume that I am a flight student, now I will do simulator training. Do we get the chance to choose which aircraft we want to fly like b737,787, etc or do authorities decide who will fly which aircraft model? Please answer my question Captain. Joe.
@ZK-APA3 жыл бұрын
The airline decides which aircraft you will fly based on vacancies. Though sometimes you may get a choice. Something like fly a narrow body aircraft as a captain, or fly a wide body aircraft as a Co pilot.
@mfairos7 жыл бұрын
hi captain.. if a person who is already a captain in smaller aircraft such as 737 and then be promoted to 747 or larger aircraft.. do they still hold the captain rank or be downgrade to co-pilot rank before completing necessary type rating course of the aircraft and become a captain.. from my view.. i always see mature age pilot still hold 3 stripes on larger aircraft.. that makes me curios.. thanks
@kornkixassman46457 жыл бұрын
eros actually it depends on airlines and company. Most airline are promoting senior fo in wide body aircraft to became captain for a smaller aircraft. It depends on how small the fleet the airline has. Let say senior fo in b777 will be promoted to became captain on b737 after accumulate a certain flying hrs. Some airline in the west are promoting from right to left hand seat. Example he started as fo on b737 then become capt b737. After that become co pilot on b777 and then promoted to capt b777. Some cases if you see some old fo he might be joined the industries quite late of his age. May be he just started flying at the age of 30 plus.

I suppose it’s much harder in Europe. Here in the US I was only a first officer for 1 year and Captain upgrade took a total of 4 weeks. 25 hours of supervised time, only 2 check flights, 5 simulators, no interview nobody in the jump seat. And you can fly with inexperienced first officers only after 100 hours. I guess it’s a very different world and a lot more work in Europe.
@carlosgarcia-ue7hd6 жыл бұрын
How much does it cost the process of upgrade for captain?
@shabab2466 жыл бұрын
Usually it’s free unless your airline is poor or cheap and makes you pay for it. Can cost between $10,000 - $60,000 depends on make and model.

Yes. The Military will fund the PPL, Instruments Rating, VFR and IFR so you more or less need only a CPL and Hours on Types, I think? There were many ex-airforce officers who joined airlines that way. It is said to be an easier way than doing it on your own.

This is not how it works in the U.S. You wait until your seniority can hold a Captain seat, then go to class. After the ground school and simulator training is done (usually 4-6 weeks), you fly 20-30 hours as a regular Captain with an instructor (LCA) sitting in the First Officer seat "checking you out". That's it.
@HEDGE10116 жыл бұрын
quinnjim Thank you and completely on point. Of course the time spent as an FO can vary dramatically depending on airline fortunes and economic conditions. I was an FO for 17 years before I could upgrade and was furloughed for four of those (9/11, age 65 rule, recession, etc.) People hired in the last couple of years are looking at 2-3 years to upgrade some places and conversely there are guys who were in the wrong place at the wrong time that started over mid-career due to airline failures, etc., who never got to upgrade through no fault of their own. It's all seniority and it's not for the faint of heart.

I do have one question; with today's modern aircraft, many are flown by stick rather than yoke. Is it awkward to fly for years as a copilot/first-officer with the stick on the right, and then suddenly as a captain, your stick is in the left? I mean, I'm certain there are a lot of flight hours in the simulator to get you ready for that, but muscle memory develops, etc.
