How do you clean a locomotive? Join the Severn Valley Railway behind-the-scenes at The Engine House

After more than four months in lonely lockdown, everything at the Severn Valley Railway had acquired a thick covering of dust and grime, including our collection of heritage locomotives and coaches inside The Engine House Visitor Centre at Highley.
The call for help went out, and a 10-strong team of expert loco cleaners swooped in to polish up the rolling stock till it shone like a mirror. In this film, we meet the gang, who are usually based in the Motive Power Department at Bewdley, and find out how they work their magic. There’s also a chance to learn more about Hinton Manor, one of the SVR’s most-loved locomotives, which last year joined the fleet of display engines. Travel with us from Saturday 1st August!

One of the original nameplates from Hinton Manor has just sold at auction for a staggering amount of.....wait for it....£21,000.00 !!!

But 9 steam locomotives in Highley The Engine House is on display we are waiting for turn next overhaul queue patiently 80079 BR Standard 4 2-6-4T turned around on the turntable in Kidderminster before will be return to service soon. 600 LMR Gordon WD 2-10-0 we never steam again, but also 75069 BR Standard 4MT 4-6-0 will be turn around on turntable in Kidderminster.

As an volunteer here. They always say never say never to Gordon coming back out again. It’s younger than Stepney and doesn’t have boiler problems like 80079.
