For anyone that has this problem with the 2021 upwards 1.6 tgdi, I got in contact with my local dealership. I was sent a manual on this issue. Drive in 3rd gear 50mph upwards, accelerate up to 4000rpm, release accelerator for 5 seconds and then back up to 4000rpm.. Repeat until light clears. I've just done this method and it honestly worked a treat. I tried driving 3.5k rpm yesterday for over 50 miles and was useless... try this method and thank me later 👌🏻

@@doolanbrian In case of DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) you must put the car in sports mode and manually switch to 3rd gear. If after driving 30 mins, or the gpf light starts blinking, they recommend you visit the local dealership

I have a 2021 1.6 tgdi which had the light come on on the dash. Tried 50 odd miles at 3000rpm but it didn't work. Yesterday i went out and tried the 4000 rpm/5 secs/ 4000 rpm/ 5 secs etc etc repeated over and over. After about 16 miles the light cleared ..... magical! it took about 25 mins, and returned 27mpg ( the return journey was 50 mpg+) however it was worth it to regenerate the filter. Took me 4 attempts to clear the warning light .Eventually cleared after driving for nearly 20 miles on each occasion at 60 mph ,4000 revs in 3rd gear .

2024 and we’re being told to get on the motorway every few weeks to clear an exhaust filter problem. This is a Hyundai problem and I’d like you to let me know how much you charge to fit a new filter. I was told yesterday at my garage that the first regeneration was free, but any further work needed would be chargeable - my Tucson is 3 months old! I won’t be paying any money for a fault that Hyundai have known about for years. Incidentally, with all this racing up and down the motorway for 30 mins, where does this leave Hyundai’s green credentials? I’d never go near Hyundai ever again.

Hi Brian. This has just started happening with my car, the Tucson PHEV. I do lots of short journeys, being disabled I take my car everywhere. This is probably a daft question, but wouldn't revving your engine while parked, up to the required revs and time, do the same thing? Thanks.

A good question, but unfortunately it doesn’t meet the criteria, the vehicle usually has to be travelling over 80 km an hour to create enough exhaust flow 🙂🙂

Another question Brian. If in theory I was to make all my local short journeys in just EV mode, would that have any effect on the exhaust? I would imagine not using the petrol engine would not add to the partials.. 🤔

Technically you are correct, I think however, it’s important to run the engine, a couple of times a week to clear condensation in the exhaust, and also keep the engine lubricated, but what you say would technically be correct 👍

I now have a home charger fitted, so I can charge my Tucson phev overnight on the cheapest rate. I'm now doing most of my short journeys in EV mode and using the Hybrid mainly at weekends. It's saving quite a bit of petrol money so I'm pleased about that. Keep up the good work Brian. 👏

Okay, unfortunately in that case you need to visit the dealership, you may have a sensor, not doing its job properly, or possibly the adblue pump is not operating correctly, but the good news is it can be fixed !

I have a 2023 Hyundai 1.6 Petrol N line it has done 3,600 miles and the Amber exhaust filter light has come on. I only do around 10 -15 miles per day back and fore work I have tried the carry on driving thing to no avail. I will have to give it another go and go for a longer drive tomorrow. I opted for a petrol this time as opposed to diesel thinking I was doing the right thing to save the planet and all that. I drive it carefully to conserve fuel and try to look after it as I have all my cars and try to reduce emissions. What is the point if I have to get in it and drive like a Hoon to somewhere I don't want go and back again to keep it clear. So instead of dropping small amounts of particle all the time, you knock the bollox out of it and drop them in one. This is a great idea (NOT)

Engines are bulletproof on that model as they are less complex , so DPF issues are almost non existent , make sure you get one with service history though … test drive the vehicle , accelerate from about 1500 revolutions, check for a strong vibration that comes up through the cabin , and also, as you release the clutch, feel if there is any sort of judder, if either symptom is there, it will need a clutch and flywheel to remedy but a lot of people don’t actually bother. Finally, make sure that the gears are selecting properly and allowing you to move freely between each gear up-and-down while driving as gearbox synchros can fail .. this is roughly around €1000 to fix. Overall these issues are reasonably infrequent out of all of them. The gearbox is probably the most common, but it’s still not that frequent

@@roadwarrior8560 the petrol is less common so we don’t see the issues as much, but that’s because the car is less common here, the petrol engines would probably consume more oil than the diesel so you need to top them up between service where as the diesel you usually don’t🙂

Hello, on my car that light starts blinking even at 3000rpm...actually only with a service regen it is possible to clean the dpf filter. I have had this problem for 2 years (increasing during summer time). The code is always P2002 but the car works really good...never power loss just dpf light blinking and sometimes (exhaust smell inside the car) Can be a faulty egr or egr cooler the solution?

Unfortunately it’s impossible to diagnose without getting it into a garage .. so many things are possible .. you might have some sort of engine imbalance, Even though it might feel like it’s running perfect you can be possible to have in correct compression , you could have a turbo charger that’s burning oil , it could be EGR as you say 🤷🏻‍♂️

Hi Brian 2019 Hyundai Tucson had it on the motorway for at least 30min 5th gear just hitting 3000revs just little over 120km and the dpf filter came on flashing few minutes later went into limp mode no power went it went to about 80km should this happen? I pulled in turned off engine for few minutes then turned back on and dpf light was gone and power was back drove another 40-min on the motorway was fine when I came back to go home it happened again on the motorway after 30min should this happen what am I doing wrong thanks

Ok Paddy .. there is an issue there .. if it’s going into limp with flashing engine light … it needs to visit the dealer for diagnosis.. are you getting a warning for check exhaust system?

What Great Information that is , i was wondering if anyone can help me as i have a 2017 kia Sportage 6wks ago my exhaust system was flashing so i bought the DPF Kit , dpf cleaner turbo cleaner and the regeneration From Forte , last week i put all 3 into my fuel tank , and now one week on my Exhaust system started flashing and now i have a engine management light on , , my car is currently in the local garage , l , I called the RAC and the lady on the phone said it was a Electrical fault as the car did not loose power and i was told to take it to the garage , where it is now , hope they can sort it , now i am not to sure about using these DPF kits . take care .

I wouldn’t have massive faith in the kits.. when it’s blocked, it needs to be manually regenerated and the kits won’t really help in that case, hopefully it’ll get sorted soon! Thanks for watching

So it looks like gasoline Particular filter will also have similar issues. If it’s cleared after the drive , that means it’s working properly so continue driving. There is no problem. 🙂👍

Hi Brian, same to me 2nd time in two weeks on my Tucson TLE 2016 1.7 CRDi 85kw with cca 80k kms. DPF light blinking on dashboard. I drove 50km with cca 2000-2500rpm. Nothing change. I was surprised when diagnosis show that DPF filter was regenerated 50 km ago. But still blinking till I switch engine off and start it again. After new start dashboard is clear. Im going to go to my dealer tomorrow. Maybe electrician will find something incorrect on cables, pins or some sensors, probes or whatever. But if you have any idea what it could be, I would appreciate your advice. Thanks. Tom

Hey there ! If DPF is blinking .. it indicates a fault with the DPF.. unfortunately it’s too hard to guess what is wrong with your one, as DPF issues were less common on the 1.7 .. let me ask does it have full Hyundai History?? I.E. were the oil changes done with the proper oil on a regular basis??

The last time I serviced my car by myself according to the car manual, one year after the last service inspection. According to the manual, it was only an oil and filter change this time. I have kept all the requirements. The oil complies with the specification 5w30 C3 according to the manual/service book. Could this be the cause?

@@tomasjacko8934 okay it doesn’t sound like servicing is the problem,I have unfortunately seen DPF’s wear out prematurely but because it showing a regeneration it’s confusing .. they will need to see if the soot level is reducing during the regeneration, let me know what happens 🙂

@@fabionsa88 Hi Misha. Unfortunately DPF was broken. Serviceman from non original car service replace it with DPF from damaged in car accident but same type of car. After the replacement engine was noisy and has deep sound like there was no exhaust. I sold the car to a car buyer. But for future, never trust non original servicemen, would be better to visit original car service.

Never heard a DPF regen at 1.5-2.5 rpm… usually have to be more that 3000 rpm… unless you use dog cleaners

There is a fault on these cars. Mine has come on again. This car is not fit for compatible city driving so must be taken off the road. Its stupid you can't drive for 90 minutes just because it's not compatible with normal driving

@@SB-kz1ti if you have engine light on it, need to go to Hyundai dealer to be manually cleared.. the car will probably go into a reduced power mode, going forwards you will need to do a 15 to 20 minutes motorway drive every few hundred kilometres to keep it clear. As you say, if you live in a built-up city, and you don’t do any motorway driving, it’s probably better to consider trading it for something hybrid instead.👍
