Alright i understand that it doesn't seem like he answered the question but if you look closely the term pro software shows 21 sq inches of port area which is still alright the rule of thumb for port area is 12.5 - 16 sq inches of port area per cubic ft. of the box so for example the box design that Allyn made is a 1.5 cubic ft. box so if you do 12.5 sq inch x 1.5 it would be 18.5 sq inches of port area and if you take 16 sq inch x 1.5 you get 24 sq inches of port area their are a lot of factors that come to play also such as how much power will you be running to the sub. other than that 21 sq inches of port area is alright smaller the port area the bigger chance you will hear chuffing... if you take the ports internal height and width which was 10.5inches x 2 inches your get 21 sq inches of port area... also it is not a scam having term pro is a good investment if you design sub or speaker boxes alot then again you dont really need it their are free programs such as WinISD for me i have Term pro, winISD, torres, and bass box pro so yes i check my design multiple times and also check it on paper with alot of math lol ... also there are some that go way more than 16 sq inch per cubic ft. but that is more for advanced builders lol hope this helps clarify that allyn isnt wrong and answers that question lol also dont forget that the port also has a displacement and slots take up more space than aero ports

You did not answer the actual question whatsoever...You used your software, and told us "you wanna have less than 10% port air velocity; The port area doesn't really matter, we need to manipulate it"...which you relied on your expensive software to explain it to us. So thank you for literally telling us nothing, and maybe conning a few people into buying a 250$ program to build a 50$ box.

WinISD is free and it also gives you port velocity. Put in your box volume, tuning frequency, & port area and it'll give you air velocity
@mattwells1036
@mattwells1036 6 жыл бұрын
Psst the port volume is also wrong. That was the total volume from the outside of all four walls in that software of the port, when determining the volume of the parts added by the port you measure the length of wood added to the structure. In a slot Port using the entire height of the box and starting on the edge, you only need to know the length of one side, do the math to calculate that it's actually a port volume of roughly 0.13 cuft. Not 0.7. I would not buy boxes from them. If the box was bigger, and this size port was built in full with all the sides separate from the walls including top and bottom, that would be the actual port volume.

@@mattwells1036 he didnt do any of it correctly. Port area is determined from the type of enclosure and the size of the chamber. A 4th order bass reflex box or ported box usually has 16 sq inches per cube of cone area. If you have a 4 cube box that 4*16=54. If your internal height is 11.5 then do the math for the width, enter that into winisd and it will give you your port length. If you were building a 4th order bandpass box the cone are is going to be different. Usually higher like 20-24 sq inches of cone area. Also the port tune is going to be higher like 40-60 hz bc it acts like a limiter on those boxes. This guy never touched that most important rule so dont buy boxes from them. Ive seen other videos of his and they lack the real details as well.

The x16 rule dose not work with all brands....cone areas differ brand to brand....so does port area...in the same cubic footage nonetheless....ur x16 rule wont work with say some sundown skar and audiopipe brands...all in all ask manufacturer for port area specs...most are usually between a x11 to a x17 rule

@fabianmolina866
@fabianmolina866 Жыл бұрын
@@James10864 Port noise occurs when the speed of the air passing through the port exceeds 17 m/s. The size of the port depends on many things: size of the subwoofer, the size of the box and the intonation of the box. Knowing that, the size of the port has to be enough so that the air speed is equal to or less than that mentioned.

I’ve got my outer dimensions for my box and know how to tune the box but what should I tune my box to? I’ve got 2 RE SE15 D4’s running off a CT sounds AT1400.1 in an old suburban. Now I’ve got them in a probox and it is way too small and only hits about 42 hz with hardly any power. I know a bigger and lower tuned box will help out a lot. I’ve got designs drawn for a 34hz box but would it be ok to change up my port for somewhere more like 27hz? Thanks for any help
@uptobatentertainment
@uptobatentertainment 6 жыл бұрын
The Bangin' Burb I would not tune lower than 30Hz unless you want to play 20-45 Hz and be extremely peaky. Tune to 32 or 34 Hz is my recommendation. 4” - 6 “ aero port would be easy to adjust for different tunings ( depending on how you build it )

@mattwells1036 6 жыл бұрын
Not the area inside the port. The area the port walls are displacing is all that you need to calculate and remove. The area inside the port is still part of the enclosure displacement.. their port displacement was way off as that was including all 4 walls of that port dimension. In the video he said and showed 0.7 when it was really only roughly 0.13.
@hotskull226
@hotskull226 2 жыл бұрын
In your design, you actually did 14 square inches per cubic foot of port (21 square inches ÷ 1.5 cubic feet). This is within the 12 to 16 square inches per cubic foot rule. 😊

Okay. So when designing a ported enclosure, the recommended volume of a subwoofer does not include port area in the recommended enclosure design? Such as a sundown SA15 requires 4 ft^3 ported. So what that's telling me is a 4 ft^3 box plus the port. Is this correct? Or does that mean total volume including the port?
@uptobatentertainment
@uptobatentertainment 6 жыл бұрын
Adam Moore correct, the port area and volume do not count in the 4ft^3 that is net not gross. The port area would need to be added to the 4ft^3 ..

No. And the port volume calculations in this video were incorrect. Those in the video used all four sides of the port as the port volume. But the design uses the top bottom, and outside walls as three of the ports sides. The volume being removed from the internal displacement is only that of the one side, which gets shorter compared to the port length when making an inside turn, as well as the opposite for an outside turn. Their incorrect calculation stated the port displacement of the final design was 0.7 cuft, but the it'd be roughly 0.13cuft. the prior ones were also wrong

@mattwells1036
@mattwells1036 6 жыл бұрын
Um, that is not the correct port volume. That is the port volume of all four walls of the port, in this design, the top bottom and outer side of the box act as three of those four walls. The actual cuft of the port for that design is roughly 0.13 not 0.7. that is what you need to add to the boxes cuft. And likewise that ridiculous 8+cuft total was wayy off man. Am i the first to notice this?
@mattwells1036
@mattwells1036 6 жыл бұрын
And of course port length isn't necessarily the actual length of your port wall. The middle is where you measure the port length, so the inside port piece might actually end up a tad shorter, and more so the more times it has an inside turn. This reduces the cuft it takes up. And on the contrary, when you reach a length that requires you to make another wall to continue the port your adding more cuft(obviously). Any outside turn pieces will use more length of wood than the port length it gets, and you can also use the other side of the existing port as the inside of this part of the port to not add more cuft to that.
