I think the demon that killed Prue was tied to a plot about exposure. they had to reverse time to prevent them from being exposed and the rewind redo of that demon fight is what killed Prue.

Agree. I think that is one of the strongest episodes of season 3. Its written well, its acted well and its a highly emotional episode. BUT it did have some drawbacks to it and the discussion could also center around the exit of Shannen and the writing decisions made for that episode perhaps had she not left.

I watched this episode for the first time tonight to watch along with this review and it really seems like 4 different shows rolled into an episode- 1. Phoebe has a Sex and City plot where Alyssa lives vicariously through her. 2. Paige has a Sabrina the teenage witch plot (zOMG quirky orby hijinks and ghost pranks!). 3. Billie has a Charlie's Angels plot. 4. Piper and Leo are in some sort of twisted version of Seinfeld-a marriage about nothing. And a Halloween episode about nothing. I feel sorry for the banished Woogyman/Nexus/Shadow clusterfuck. It was a benevolent being warning of us of these villains.

Eh. The whole reason they needed to reverse time was the magical exposure. And Prue ended up dying because Phoebe and Leo were trapped in the Underworld. Leo said he went to pick up Wyatt from school, then comes home without him. So where the hell did Wyatt go? We see him come in the door alone and immediately goes looking for Piper.

The episode you mentioned where Wyatt was dressed as a pumpkin was not a Halloween episode, it was earlier this season. He was dressed as a pumpkin for a school play. It was the one where a possessor demon possessed Wyatt's teacher and tried to use him to bring back the Source.

It seems like the Sister's got more selfish with each season. It's hard to rewatch now I'm 28 yr old & discovering how Cruel & Selfish the Sister's got . Thanks, to this Wonderful Podcast I am enlightened how bad the show really was at times with the Sisters being Manhating, Sexist, Selfish & even Cruel at times! I grew up watching this show & it will always have a place in my heart but, Now has an Adult I can truly see the flaws it had. Although, the first 4 Seasons where the best & every season has a few Good or Decent Episodes!

Idk if it's just me, but it always seemed like Prue was the one who wanted to help others and got the most shit for "Personal Gain"... meanwhile Piper and Pheobe had everything handed to them and got away with murder (sometimes literally). I know Allison mentioned it way back in the original Manic Episodes of Charmed, but I do wonder what kind of show it would've been had Shannon Dougherty not been ousted. Would she have devolved into one of The Halliwell Harpies? Or would it have actually been a decent show? Admittedly my only context of Charmed is through Allison, and one episode I tried to watch but had to change the channel on because it was so tropey, I was giving myself eye strain from how much I was rolling them, but I always got the impression that Prue was the leader of the group, and the one that *actually* pressed her sisters to get shit done and help people, and it was when she was killed off that Piper and Pheobe quickly turned into the selfish, bitchy Gruesome Twosome that would harass Paige, Leo, definitely Cole, and later Billie, for making them do anything--- when they weren't busy bickering over who would get to be the center of attention that episode, of course.

So if Doherty had stayed and become a producer as well, Prue might have suffered a similar fate.

In A Season 3 episode she is seen tutoring Piper on making a vanquishing potion for Belthazor (before they knew it was Cole) and helping Piper and Phoebe train. In a sense she was basically their moral compass. Prue seemed to be the ONLY sister who would challenge Phoebe on anything. Like her actions regarding the Cole situation, sure there could be some debate on who was wrong or right, but Prue was the only one who made conflict with Phoebe and never just let her get away with it. Phoebe would often want to avoid Prue or act as if she were an annoyed child dealing with a mother, which is most evident when she dated Cole in Season 3, which began Phoebe's decline into the hag sister. it's funny how inconsistent the show is. like the first time i can remember they turned people into animals was the episode the sisters turned into warlocks and was a sign they were evil. now they can just do it and no consequences. also they haunted a mob boss type because he was trying to kill piper because her disguise was like an ex-girlfriend of his who knew too much i think. and the sisters made a big deal of we can't scare him and imitate barbas... few episodes later... oh it's okay to haunt this random reporter and turn people into animals because we said so. xD

nobody talks about how this storylines’ aftermath trivializes what happened on 3x22 In buffy they turn to dust cus Whedon didn’t want them to be humanized like in the movie and just watch people stabbing other people. It’s crazy how big events like pregnancies are treated like throwaway side plots in this season. Funny enough phoebe as her cousin bonded w dex because he read and liked the column so that’s probably why she knew he might read it, funny enough even the way they bond is centered around ask phoebe and her ego, they lost the very light semblance of self awareness the show possessed before. Just to give my opinion I think the show was better before bc it didn’t take itself too seriously and rightfully so cus it had the emotional magnitude of a well written lifetime movie, it was camp and it lost the campy side of the show but left the moralizing good thinking self righteousness which made it what it became. Buffy is a good example of treating hard subjects but also having a self awareness about its own absurdity and using to make fun of itself.

The Charmed Ones become worse than the Demons at times because, at least the demons owned up to their Cruel & Wicked ways! Although, sometimes the Demons where actually Nicer than the Charmed Ones ! 😅 It's pretty Bad when ur hero characters come of as Villains but, act like heroes & even worse when the show tries to support that message. Heroes can be flawed but, when a show tries to act like their never at fault , even when the viewer can blatantly see they are, then that's a problem!

I wish I had paid better attention to this, but I was too busy wondering what Groppler Zorn might be up to? What kind of adventure is Groppler Zorn on at the moment? Was Groppler Zorn fearlessly taking on monsters or using his superior Groppling to sway diplomats? My mind couldn't stop grappling Groppler Zorn questions. Could they have saved Charmed if they had made Groppler Zorn a sister? Maybe they could have replaced Shannon Dougherty with Groppler Zorn, even giving him a proper "P" name like Proppler P'Zorn. The possibilities for Groppling would have been endless, and Groppler Zorn could have expanded his wardrobe to include classic Charmed costumes. They could have had a Groppler Zorn and Neighbor Dan love triangle, Tuvixed Groppler Zorn and Margoyle, had Groppler Zorn write in to "Ask Phoebe" when he was grappling a Groppling question, or even feature him getting trapped in hell for daring to trust someone he loved. Sorry to be such a Groppler Zorn fan-boy, but I feel like this was on everyone's minds.

This episode is where Piper is at her worst. In fact Season 8 in general just has Piper at her worst. It feels like they took every horrible trait of Piper and stuffed it into one episode. I HATED that scene with her and Leo, because Leo sums up their relationship perfectly only for her to respond with "marriage is about dividing and conquering".. After Leo gave up his wings for love of her, Piper DARED to totally emasculate him by treating him like her own little errand boy. Especially when he grew up in the early 1900s where the man brought home the bacon and the little woman stayed home and took care of the children, that was a horrible way to treat him. If she'd left him with any balls, he would've taken his sons and walked out on his shrew of a wife. Or better, take her back to the 20s where she could have her normal life and see what she thought of it!
