I don't know if you ever watched Sliding Doors with Gwyneth Paltrow, but this episode sort of reminds me of that, with the alternate timelines and such, except Sliding Doors made a hell of a lot more sense and a 1000 times more entertaining then whatever this was. This episode was a complete cluster mind f*ck. It's just further proof that the show totally gave up on itself and just didn't care. Also, I find it funny that Mitch doesn't believe in the paranormal and UFO's but he experiences these things in every episode LOL.

This episode was so mean spirited LOL the phantom guy saves a boys life but everyone still insists on calling him gross. Also, I find it interesting that being a ways off from You Tube, and other video streaming sites, these almost 30 something teenagers track down and harass the phantom dude for content, clout, and money, a foreshadow of what was to come unfortunately . Also, I love how CJ bitches about Cody not being romantic enough, but in the end he gives her a red rose with a ring inside asking her to marry him only to be clearly shot down. Then his beloved CJ, not knowing what to think just takes off permanently, this makes sense actually, because given the show's shallowness it's only fitting for her to leave this way. Also, it's only Cody LOL. I enjoyed the video as Always enjoy these Baywatching videos.

If you ignore the problematic parts, this is a pretty good comedy episode. The one place where it crossed the line for me was when Quark's employee decided she was into the sexual harassment. The "women secretly like it" trope isn't just problematic, it's actively harmful. One step forward for women on Ferenginar, two steps backward for the show.

Exploding a mine without thought for the nearby civilians who might get hit by the shrapnel. That's why they call him John "Doesn't Understand the Lifeguard Job Description" Cort. Is it possible that Nelson did more stalking of death on Baywatch than in the movie in which "Deathstalker" was actually his character's name?

Years later, Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: Prodigy would both reference this episode in the episodes "We'll Always Have Tom Paris" and "Mindwalk". Boimler: "Guess who I get to meet today! The creator of Fair Haven himself, Captain Proton himself: Lieutenant Tom Paris!" Mariner: "No way! That's awesome! Is he still a salamander?" Boimler: "No, that's not - it was a celerity-induced accelerated somatic mutation rate and he's fine now. He was the first human to break the transwarp barrier and today, he's going to be on the Cerritos!" Janeway (in Dal's body): "You mean you want me to exit a starship, go to the middle of a warp bubble, and make physical contact with my own body? Listen, I was once transformed into a salamander. Nothing can be as difficult as that. Let's do it." Protostar Crew: (confused looks)

Michael Piller who wrote this episode said it was inspired by the episode "Checkmate" from the 1967 British sci-fi/drama TV series The Prisoner. In some early versions of the script, the DS9 characters were placed in a surreal village, similar to the village featured in that series.

The Lower Decks solution was perfect: there were a bunch of pairs of crew members who got fused and it was immoral to unfuse each of the new individuals, so all the fused individuals just fused together into a gelatinous abomination which was unlikely to be sentient and then they just unfused everyone.

I know Mitch breaking the FartStick(tm) at the end is supposed to come off as heroic, like he's not gonna let Teague and his shadowy researchers get their hands on it and use it for their own shadowy purposes. But how it actually comes off is ...not that. It comes off like the following: -Petty -Intolerant (this relic probably has significant cultural value to a dispossessed people) -"Me smash things me don't understand!" -Spiteful -Too dumb to live I guess basically it comes off like Baywatch Nights Mitch 😅

Its a miracle on its own the fact that they managed to keep Charmed comics as bad as the show. if my experience has shown me anything, is that if something exists its comic version will be better, yet somehow charmed managed to remain in the exact same quality....kudos.

Back in the day, I interpreted "Your world of Starfleet captains doesn't admit women" as something more like a glass ceiling. There's no OFFICIAL policy that Starfleet doesn't allow women to be captains of starships, but they've never actually promoted a woman to captain, so... I think I even remember reading an article in a fan magazine that suggested that Lester was wrong in blaming this on sexism and that it was more of a rationalization of why SHE wasn't promoted to captain. Since she's obviously so stable and suited to being in charge of a starship that there couldn't be any other reason... Not giving the episode a pass, but that's what I remember.

Upvote for having a valid opinion, but in my own opinion it is the best TNG episode ever because it's a tear jerker. Star Trek sometimes doesn't need to explain science stuff in order to capture the imagination and suspension of disbelief in order to tell a good story.

I really do not get why this show ever had a fanbase. They are so ridiculously overpowered as witches, they can just wave their hands and literal ancient demons and gods and entities blow up like they were filled with nitroglycerine, like the Grim Reaper in Spookies. :)

I think it would have been pretty neat to make Ryan a Pre-Cog. Visions of the future make for good storytelling and it would help explain why she's at once the more intelligent and more superstitious person compared to Mitch. Maybe also a reason why Teague is interested in this particular detective agency rather than a group more qualified?

I remember watching this as a kid. My standards were obviously much lower back then and i didnt pick up many of the queues but i started watching in s4 and then as it went on i remember REALLY disliking Piper and Phoebe. After maaaany years i decided to rewatch this and in the first 3 seasons i was like, why did i dislike them so much this is pretty ok...then the latter seasons came in and i was like ooooh thats why i thought they sucked back then.

I remember watching the college years episodes as they aired, and hoped against hope that it’d be similar to ‘Sabrina in Rome’ where she lived with another witch. It would’ve been far more interesting if Roxie and Morgan were witches, and Miles was the ‘Sabrina’ version of a squib. At least there would’ve been more magic.

Self serving ego stroking people in charge of a show can really REALLY mess it up, its apparent from s5 and onwards ever since i saw Alyssa Milano and Holy marie where producers. I have many reports that especially Alyssa Milano was a nightmare on set and this obnoxious behavior becomes very clear in some of the later seasons. Also idk what the thing is between narcissists and their belief that they have oh so much empathy.
