I recently repaired my Pentair Sand Dollar tank. It had a 3" leak on the bottom seam on which it stands on the tank holder. I used first a coat of marine epoxy, followed by a coat of FlexSeal paste. Lastly I used fiberglass resin along with fiberglass cloth to create a long lasting, permanent patch. With an operating pressure of 15PSI, there is minimal stress on the patch.

How did you repair it? I have an 8" split in mine and have tried plastic epoxy (failed after a month or so) and JB Weld (failed as soon as the container pressurized)

Went to the hardware store and got a fiberglass repair kit and patched both the inside and the outside. It’s been two years but it’s it still running.

We have the little Bestway sand filter and pump that came with the pool… very small tank…. have had it only 6 months and just found a leak on the bottom of the tank!! Is it worth trying to fix this cheap tank?!?! Or can I purchase any better brand and larger? Will it fit my current hoses and pump? (Bestway)

Pool equipment INSIDE the house sounds like a bad design even if the pool is indoors. All the ones I’ve seen have an adjacent pump house to contain the noise and mess. Interesting

0:06 He speaks the TROOF!! Cheapskates try to fix a cracked pool filter and 99% of those "repairs" will fail and 1% of the cheapskates will go to the emergency room. (Pentair Factory warranty for 20 years and Hayward Pool Products for 13 years) Don't mess around with filters, just replace them.

Elements, grids etc don’t contain pressure so no added risk in doing that. But…grids that are failing IE ripping and developing holes are failing and no doubt hindering performance. Not doing yourself or anybody else a favor by maintaining that pitiful condition unless money issue precludes replacement positively.

Oh btw…poorly performing filter elements will increase tank psi, making for more danger.

Kinda weird how this channel has both extremely rational content mixed with dramatic hyperbole such as this video. A failed repair will just leak again rather than resulting in “sudden catastrophic structural failure resulting in immediate death”. If you properly prep the crack and seal with multiple layers of epoxy and fiberglass it will flex and remain sealed under pressure. If it leaks a second time then certainly replace the container.

People die from failing split flange pool filters. Repairing a pressure vessel is extremely unwise. People should be made aware of that, hence this video. You assume the filter is fine because it is hydraulic pressure, but if there is an air bubble in the filter then it explodes with enough force to maim or kill someone.

I found that out the hard way, had done a filter crack repair on Saturday. Sunday afternoon it suffers catastrophic failure, i wake up from my nap to hundreds of gallons of pool water flooding my yard. Also since I'm in Texas I get to fix the busted pipes from that freeze After installing new equipment.

I repaired my 20 yr old Heyward De4800 with flex spray and flex seal tape. A hairline crack was taken care of. Everything is going well. Just saying😊

couldn’t a pool filter explode at anypoint. I feel like something so simple has a solution and that this video is just more corporate propaganda designed to keep us shopping and stay scared. we weld metal safely even pressurized metal containers why is there no solution for fixing plastic pool filters

I am not corporate propaganda. I am an experienced person trying to help people not injure themselves doing something they should not. What a ridiculous comment. As for WHY you can weld metal and not plastic filter tanks is because filters expand when pressurized. So it's very hard to .are a repair, and very easy for your filter to explode in your face and kill you if you did a poor job with your repair.

This is correct. A pool filter could explode, but it would be extremely rare. If the lid pops off people call that an explosion, but its not, it is a faulty lid or lid connection. For the actual tank to explode, something is very wrong and it's not because of a crack or leak because that would relive pressure, not contain it. I have yet to see any video of a tank [WITH A LEAK] exploding.

I'm sure it can be done safely. If it splits open under pressure, the pressure will be gone in a second. Not like a vessel under pressure with compressed air. Still better getting a new one because eventually the repair will fail and you will lose your pool water

Steve is 100%…it can not be done safely. All filter tanks will contain compressed air intermittently, all filter tanks are very dangerous things. A “repaired” tank is a very, very dangerous thing. I disagree with PMS often, no way on this. Have seen too many scenes of incredible damage in 40+ years.
