In today's video, I finally lay the bent/fescue turf in my own garden!
It's a tiny lawn, but it's going to be incredible!
If you've like to follow along with the progress of this lawn, consider subscribing!
This turf is Tillers Turf available through the Lawn Association (email them for individual pricing):

What a great job you did of laying that turf mate, apart from the odd line you would barely have known you laid turf down. You’ve sold it to me. I’m going to see how the mix of seed I’m using this year performs during winter. If it goes thin badly I think I’m going to have to switch up to bent fescue lawns.

Good job! Well done! as good if not better than some professional turfers, and you know it has been done correctly.

Thanks so much for this!! I know nothing about gardening or lawns but my garden of 6 years needs to stop being storage space and an actual garden! After being scared by quotes from professionals, ive decided to give it a go myself and after watching your first video, I had a good feeling about maybe trying it for myself! You've even convinced me not to go for artificial grass!! I'll let you know how I get on! Cheers!

That's class! Glad I've swayed you away from artificial! Real grass obviously requires more maintenance, but it's worth it

Following this project with great interest. Tillers provide a number of turf variations. Do you know which one they have supplied to you?

It's their bent fescue on soil. They do a fair few different types.

So much more convenient if someone doesn't have the time. With seed, watering can be tricky depending on the day job!

Good video as always. I’ll be watching to see what it looks like in a few months. With regards to cylinder mowers my view is you need one if you’re serious about cutting lawns properly. But I take your fiancé point that at some point the channel might need a name change but your not there yet. I picked up an Allett Liberty 35 secondhand from eBay a few weeks ago and I’m really pleased with it. If Allett are good enough for Anfield they’re good enough for my garden. Not having to wrestle to start a petrol mower each time is also amazing. Keep up the good work YNWA.

Nice one 👍🏻 I'm already cutting the seeded bent fescue on the second lowest setting on the rotary and can tell it could do with being cut a bit shorter. Quality of cut from a cylinder makes a huge difference too. Got a notification to say that it's on the way today, so hopefully not too long before I can get on with it!

Nice job. Look forward to seeing the cylinder mower soon. How long do you think it will be before first cut on the seeded bent / fescue lawn. Seems to grow much slower so guessing maybe up to 8 wks or more from seeding?

Cheers 👍🏻 It's had a few cuts this week and it's starting to really thicken up. Got a few pictures on my Instagram of how it's doing. Hoping to get a video out in the next week or so.

you cant be a novice forever, you must do a lot of research on the products, tools and methods and it really shows, and you don't need to be a novice to create a video for a novice, or someone at the start of their journey.

Could you put some links either in your descriptions or insta of the products you use as i notice the iron you use from A1 is no longer available and the seaweed so wondering if they have chnaged brands. Dont want to buy the wrong product
@NoviceGardener

Not sure if they're still doing it. Not used the iron this year and only used the seaweed back in Feb. I'm going to go without this year to see if it makes a difference not using it.

Looking good mate! What type of cylinder mower did you purchase? I’ve been drooling over some of the Allett mowers for a few years but my lawn is so small i cant justify the cost unfortunately.

Think he's said Allett Cambridge in an earlier video. The Cobra Fortis seems to have very good reviews on YT and much cheaper.

Like John said, the Cambridge 43. I've been after an Allett for around 3 years and like you said, justifying the cost is the main thing! If I didn't have this KZbin channel, I think it would have been a solid no in my house 🤣

You can get the same turf, but you can buy bent fescue mixes to grow it yourself
@SuperChalkster

you need to water it a lot. obviously you would know that but just saying. it does look good like, but i watch dan hibbert i think anyone that likes lawn care would like to see his work as he is very professional, i just heard him say a few times now that actually a healthy lawn you should be able to see soil, otherwise the grass just outcompete eachother and get disease

With bent and fescue, you need to scarify to take from the lawn as it has the opposite problem to rye. Rye can't naturally thicken itself, so over seeding is the best way to combat it thinning. With bent and fescue, the more you prune, the thicker it becomes, so scarifying needs to remove some to keep it healthy.

Bit of a shame that you gave up all this time with creating your own lawn to go with turf.

It's something different. I enjoy growing lawns from seed, but this gives an alternative way if people don't have the time.
