Do they only authenticate autographs or can they also authenticate that a jersey was game worn? I found an autographed Phil Dawson jersey at a garage sale for a great price so I bought it. I took it out of the frame to make it easier to bring it back to CA on the plane. When I took it out I noticed the tags on the inside were different from any commercial or retail jersey I've ever seen, I'm 99% positive it's an actual field jersey from the construction of it and the tags inside

I have an 1983 Philadelphia Sixers team signed basketball . I’ve had this since 84 as a gift from my grandfather. He won it at a raffle. No authentication though. I was In first grade in 84. So definitely have an attachment but would love to know the value after having it almost my entire life.

@@PowersSportsMemorabilia "Certificate of Authenticity" literally means nothing. Many people see one of these pieces of paper and think it means something. It doesn't. It's not a legal document, all it means is "According to (insert random autograph dealer), this signature is real." That means that you or I could make our own CoA right now and say that a fake Harrison Ford autograph is real....according to us. And we wouldn't face any repercussions at all. No one can prove if the actor actually signed it, and the actors themselves don't know or care what they've signed in their lifetime. It's even worse for deceased actors. No one can prove a fake Heath Ledger autograph is real, and the actor himself isn't even around to verify them. Just because it looks real, doesn't mean it is. I mentioned earlier that many fake autographs can be identified immediately. Others can't. Some forgers do an amazing job of replicating actors' signatures. Just because your autograph looks similar to ones you saw on Google Images doesn't mean it's real. Some actors' signatures are so short, like just their initials or even just a weird scribble, so it's impossible to identify fakes in those cases. Plus, there's a machine called an autopen that exists where someone can mechanically reproduce an actor's autograph in large volumes pretty flawlessly. Autograph dealers know all of this, and scam thousands of people daily. Think about it, how much does it cost you to print out a picture of an actor, sign a fake signature on it, print out your own "Certificate of Authenticity", and then throw it on eBay and make hundreds of dollars off it? Unfortunately, tons of people are aware of how easy it is to do this and so eBay and autograph stores are flooded with fakes way more than real signatures. The sad thing is: almost all of the fakes end up getting sold. Counterfeit money, clothes, or other products can be identified easily and you can be sued for making them. This isn't the case with autographs. They're easy and cheap to make, and often impossible to prove if real or fake. Worst of all: no one is really aware of this at all. What's the solution? Stop buying autographs online entirely or even from autograph stores just because you trust a guy who works there who claims his sister's husband's friend is a Hollywood agent. Unless you saw it signed in front of you, you'll never know if it's real or not. There are real autographs online, and legitimate businesses hold private signings with actors, but it can be hard to tell what's real and what's not especially if you're a noobie to the hobby. Also, be aware that even if you write a letter to a celeb and get a signed pic in return, it may be a reprint or it may have been signed by a secretary. That really does happen. Plus, you can't always rely on experts or authentication services (like PSA/DNA) because they aren't foolproof either.

Just because they don't authenticate an item does not mean it's fake. They've rejected items I've got signed in person. They simply can't authenticate if they are not sure, they don't declare an item a fake.
