I think lowering the aperture of the camera really helps too. The farther away the presenter is from the wall, and the more wide open the lense is, the more out of focus that wall will be. Giving it a more natural look.

bluring the background will help too! i'm still seeing lots of artifacts at the moment

You know, there's quite a bit of moiré on that wall in this video...

Does the LED panel’s scan rate (scan way) also make a difference with artifacts? 1/16, 1/28, 1/32, etc?

They can, but it doesn't happen in a vacuum - meaning that, it can make a difference, but in combination with the type and firmware of the IC chips on the module, the receiving cards, sending cards, and more! This is also why unfortunately it's not as simple as just comparing spec sheet to spec sheet.

Hi! Great content! It would be also interesting to know how you deal with scan lines on camera, since you are using a cheap mirrorless with no genlock. What is the refresh and scan of the panel? How do you avoid scan lines? Thanks!

These panels are a 3840Hz refresh rate, and I have the camera set at 1/50. I actually am not sure the exact scan rate of this panel, but I can tell you that it goes further than just scan rate and refresh rate. One of the things that impresses me so much about DVS is that they care about the panels down to the firmware version of the IC driver, because it can make a difference - even with everything else being the same. Beyond bare specs, there is an art to putting the right hardware together in a panel for exceptional video performance.

@@LearnStageLighting Thanks! That is good advice. I am starting to realize that too.

Here's my learning curve... Many churches had access to the LED screen during COVID (price drops)... 1. We went from Sony A6400 to GH5s due to sensor refresh rate. Most of these avg churches do not buy the best Novastar converter with SDI genlock capabilities. Most of there cameras are not broadcast/cinema SDI Genlock cameras. We went with the GH5 and started using the 180 rule using global shutter (or Panasonic Angle/ISO). Sorry for the long explanation...but I think the companies selling these LED screens to normal churches (100-500 attendees) should tell them to make sure they upgrade their Novastar video converter and Camera's 😊

Moire is pronounced when the camera moves. Only real way to minimize led wall moire is a 100% static shot. That means also disabling any IS since that creates motion.

So true. I used a static background photo from a USB stick and that helped massively.
