Though, although it became obvious. A lot of folks still thought Army SMUs is only referred to/or the short term for Delta. It can be confusing for folks who into the military topics btw not quite exactly knows what's up. Delta is as high as you can goes for Army SMUs. The CIA SAC is another thing, they are directly under the president, which makes them even more tougher than Delta or the top dogs among all Tier 1 operators. The pathway can be if you are from army: Boot Camp To Airborne School To 101st/82nd To Rangers /Green Berets To Delta To CIA SAC or might be CIA GB(ground branch, btw this department are not compatible to SAC, SAC is the best.) The fastest pathway if you joined in 17 to you become Delta is 5-6 years. Then to CIA is another 3-4 years, after you went to Delta, the CIA can put whoever they want if you intended to join. The youngest can go into this level is at least above 24-25 years old (might not exact the birthday.)

This is a dumb question but when a special forces soldier changes branches, do they need to go thru basic training again. Obviously a Seal does not need to go from a civilian to soldier but there is more about basic training than the transition, it’s also about learning ARMY history, culture, ranks etc. So always wondered about when Ranger becomes a PJ, do they need to go through basic again?

In the realm of JSOC there are exchange programs that can bring in people from any branch. For example, former recon and MARSOC trooper Cody Alford said on the Shawn Ryan Show when he got to Recon, all the senior guys there were training to go to Delta Force selection. Former Force Recon Marine Tod Olpaski also went over to Delta Force and did 4 years as a assault Troop team leader and returned to the USMC before retiring. Rob Tule was a PJ and CCT who went over to Delta Force. Navy SEAL David Goggins at one point tried out for Delta Force and was in the same same selection class as Mike Glover.

OY, I have a friend who was senior to me, but took the ALPO job so he could spend time getting physically ready for selection, which he was invited to do, while I kept the LPO job in our quiet corner of Camp Lejeune, just to have the ENTIRE F'ing chain of command at the Naval Hospital somehow think he was doing the "blue to green" program. 😑😵💫 No matter how stupid/idiotic/moronic a chain of command in the military could be, you would have been amazed at the weapon's grade level of ineptitude we both ran into, eventually due to the command's utter incompetence my friend missed his chance. After that entire debacle, I seriously started to doubt common sense existed in any great quantity in the "regular" military, the years after that made me realize common sense is a curse.

It’s the same core plague that has its infectious consequences felt at every level, as a pure coincidental example…Drew’s commentary in this very clip..relates to his accession into an specific organization, which Senior Chief Shannon Kent shared affiliation with during her career. Completely unrelated to that organization and after her association….Shannon later experienced firsthand how the football bat type decisions were made without any basis of reality, preventing her from pursuing a opportunity in a PHD program….that she deserved 50x over plus some. Thankfully and due to her absolute legend, laws were passed to hopefully prevent the same occurrence in the future…..but the consequences of it happening the first time saw a wife, mother, and one of the most lethally effective assets in our operational capability lost as a result.

It is interesting that the outflow from Vietnam was some really interesting books, because of the times. Great books like Fields of Fire, The 13th Valley, etc. Those books were outstanding but few and far between, mostly novels. These days, we have pod casts. Interesting, but the quantity is the exact opposite of the books, again for obvious reasons. Not judging, just making an observation. Clearly more knowledge, sort of, now.

This guy didn’t go to CAG. He served in a tier 1 technical reconnaissance/surveillance SMU which went by a verity of names, Centra Spike, Torn Victor, Grey Fox, Task Force Orange, JREG etc. As to why he didn’t try out for Green Team, if I had to guess it was because in 90s the Army leadership controlled JSOC and they had a lot of influence on which Units would get missions. SEAL team 6 got sidelined many times for real world missions which were given to Delta. In the 90s, ST6 as a command was also still dealing with a sour reputation left by the Units 1st CO Dick Marcinko. The cool thing about the SMU that Drew went to was he got to work with all the elite Units on a regular basis

You guys want to hear the best breakdown of the differences between each military special operations branch? Football is the best analogy and it’s the ones the operators themselves use. Delta as we call them, would be the Green Bay packers, the best team by far, with the most talented QB ever. Navy’s devgru would be the Patriots, the clutchest and most decorated team. They have the most fans, and the most chips and notoriety. Rangers, the conventional seals, and the SF guys would be College football. So Bama, Georgia, OU, the Florida teams and LSU, etc.
