To give people some context on the Unit that Erick served at, here is a bit from the book Relentless Strike - 2006 a Delta Force element hit a house of an Iraqi insurgent and captured him alive at night.. They put a black hood over his head and started a battlefield interrogation outside the target building .. (while) that was going on, the ISA man (like Erick) attached to the Delta troop, found the man’s cell phone in a pillow, and quickly on the spot made a Trojan copy of the phones SIM card and did some other (technical manipulation)… When he finished bugging the phone, he slipped the phone back in the pillow and gave the Delta guys a thumbs up. They released the bad guy in their custody, and apologized to him saying (sorry, we got the wrong house)… When the team left the area, days later Mr. Bad guy started calling friends, family, cousins and other (bad guys)….. all being intercepted, recorded and measured for geolocation.. One bad guy lead to 5 more bad guys, and those bad guys lead to 20 .. Those 20 bad guys lead to more bad guys in other countries in different time zones… JSOC was (very) busy 2005-2008 Erick basically served in a SMU that specializes in Human/SIGINT Technical Surveillance/Special Reconnaissance etc. Delta Force used to jokingly call them the "Knob Turners" being alot of the job was using SIGINT realted gear, locating different RF and cellular beacons from either recconsiance aircraft or from OPs and safe houses. They were called the ISA in the 80s and 90s, in the GWOT, they were called Orange + TFO.. These are the spys of JSOC

One of these types, just by chance, happens to live down the road from me, and I've had the privilege of meeting and hanging out with him on a few occasions. After hearing some of his drunk stories, dressing up as a female haji in a dress and doing recon undercover in occupied parts of Afghanistan, I encouraged him to share his stories on a program like this, but he has no interest in the fame, and doesn't see himself as having done anything special. It's a shame, he's a fascinating character. Very much like the guy described in the opening anecdote that was up on the hilltop for too long. He's been out for a decade and is still built like a super soldier to this day, absolute unit.

But listening to Eric’s story really blew me away that we have these dedicated strong individuals do a job/ serve a cause or belief that many wouldn’t. Eric you and many people across all branches of the Military are an inspiration to many people. I really enjoyed the interview and can’t wait for the second one with Eric and the other guys coming on soon. Jack and Dave your doing a fantastic job. I enlisted in 1995. Did a year reserve then went active Army at fort Bragg. This guy had a combination of things that allowed him to bypass the regular Army trap. Way above average ASVAB, being bilingual, probably above average physical fitness, and most importantly connections. You can't do it alone, no matter how smart or strong you are.

There are many different jobs in the armed forces. It has been said by others that for every trigger puller there are 5 or 6 people in the rear keeping that trigger puller supplied with bullets, beans, fuel and water. When I served, one of the jobs I was trained for was trigger puller. My first issued weapon in the first combat unit I was assigned to was the BAR. I cannot talk about current events since my service was more than 60 years ago. I did however serve in a unit whose task was to respond in less than one hour when the president pointed to a spot on the globe or a map and asked, "who can we send here and how fast can we do it?" Back then the army chief of staff was able to answer, " Mr. President I can have 150 combat troops with all their equipment in the air and on the way to that spot within 60 minutes of your order." The actual time from the order to go and takeoff of the first aircraft averaged about 28 minutes. The fastest I have direct knowledge of was 16 minutes. This was before navy seals or delta force existed. All in all this is an honest video. Much appreciated. Thank you.

There are many studies highlighting how intelligence and cyber, professionals, and remote drone pilots have/are suffering with PTS and occupational stress/burnout. Remember- it’s not a disorder- only an injury and you WILL heal and grow from it. First steps is seeking assistance such as therapy.

One approach/cause that would be immensely beneficial would be public/private partnerships between private sector professional certification programs and military certs/schools (reciprocity programs) so upon exiting the DoD, you already have those certs and "translated" skill sets. Army Intel Officer here and got out after 6years; very difficult to translate and compete in the private sector. The separation program was a typical Gov/DoD Program...not bad, not great...lots of lag and trailing far behind current needs. Many peers took a stepping stone via Contractor, Gov, Grad School to facilitate the DoD to Private Sector transition.

The average civilian doesn’t have a clue about enlisted or officer differences, or can even comprehend military operations. The only employers who have some idea about military hierarchy and skill sets are the defense contractors. So if you want to do something different than defense related jobs, you need to be prepared to start at a hands on level of work and demonstrate skills in the civilian sector.

2:01:00 Maybe some knucklehead had unauthorized item(s) that they were unable to destroy onboard the aircraft, and maybe "not destroying the equipment" was the cover story. Context: the pilot in command got a Distinguished Flying Cross. That individual was in command, full stop. It was within his authority to order (or not order, or supersede contrary orders as to) the destruction of the equipment. Not very often that the Navy awards one of it's highest medals to someone who grossly failed in their duties. Most of us have been part of things where the real participants and the real 'story' of what happened never makes it into the official reports, nevermind what is disseminated broadly.

Any ideas on who the rescued American hostages were? Sounds like this was before the Jessica Buchanan rescue.
