Great video. I have a 2008 997.1 with 80k miles on it. Your videos very useful for me!😊

I'm at 91k on my 2011 cayman s and haven't had to replace any of the suspension components. remarkably well built car, very reliable.

Agreed. The relative light weight of the car also helps. On my Cayenne, the bushings are shot by 80k miles.

I have done a full suspension refresh on 2010 C2S. I would say the suspension freshening up does a whole lot of difference to how the car drives. Since the refresh I have added on the TracTive coilovers in place of the stock Bilsteins that makes a huge improvement over the stock shocks setup -feels more compliant. The stock shock seems to give out under some conditions- especially undulated roads as stock suspension controller doesn’t adjust the dampers quick enough. Stock Bilstein with a DSC controller made the stock setup better.

I love your videos. My C4S is same year and same miles and it seems like we run into the same issues around similar times. Instead of replacing my rear strut mounts I think I may just purchase the isolator bushings instead and save $500. Thank you for your perspective and insight!

The only isolator bushings sold separately I know of are the ones by Powerflex. I decided against those because they are stiffer than stock.

I have a rattle coming from (presumably) behind the rear seats in my C4. Is that the noise you were experiencing? And did the new isolator bushings take care of the noise? I do appreciate your helpful videos!

Hy! Love your videos of the 997! I've wathced all before buying one! Now on mine i have a problem: do you know how i can check if the orginal b4 damper's wiring is ok? ( the rest of the car wiring is surely ok as i get voltage on multimeter) I am stuck with car in full stiff mode showing PASM error after a change of top from mounts. They worked perfectly before, switching from normal to sport but now there is something wrong!

hmm, nice video, i have something similar on my 64k 2011 GTS, front passenger side has a knock when i sometimes hit harsh bumps or occasional potholes! When I mentioned it to Porsche for an inspection they came back and said everything is fine, but I suspect it could be the same thing as yours! I still find it amazing they last this long without replacements, yours is in good knick good for you! In my years of car ownership, they are well engineered solid cars with very little weaknesses. Back to the video, can you get the isolator itself separately?

The only isolator sold separately is by Powerflex, but those are stiffer than OEM.

When the control arm bushings fail are you going to replace all of the control arms or will you try and just replace the bushings as well?

I would replace them all so I could feel the totality of the changes all at once

so does the thicker strut mount foam change the ride height at all?
@CarFanatic

No it didn't. I believe this is because, when you tighten the shock mount bolts, it takes up all the slack in the isolator. However, the new isolator is more rigid which keeps the shock from moving around as much.

Is this wear normal at 70k?

It depends on how the miles were collected. My car has mainly seen highway miles.

You should be more concern with bore scoring versus suspension. Any body can tell this is a decent looking car. How you can tell by applying few Ft pounds of force, versus car doing 3000 ponds of force at 1 G. It only looks dissent, but how it performs. Foam isolator is made out of foam, not aluminum. Good luck. Just replace everything...

Although you’re not wrong about replacing things to be safe, visual inspection can tell you a lot especially if one doesn’t track the car. Also, this is a 997.2 which hasn’t had issues with bore scoring or the IMS bearing (doesn’t even have an IMS) the earlier models have.

OMG cracks and polyurethane adhesive - it’s a frikin $60k 911, replace all those arms and enjoy one of the most remarkable handling cars, as intended.
