Watch the BBC first on iPlayer 👉 bbc.in/iPlayer-Home Southern Spain, famous for its beaches and sunshine, has become the main gateway for drugs into Europe. Violent turf wars between drug cartels have caused the government to issue a crackdown. For the last two years, the police have been fighting to take back control.
In this compelling film, Stacey gains unique access to the police, the dealers and the smugglers. She goes out on patrol with the air force team of the Guardia Civil and is invited along to witness a night-time raid in an attempt to arrest a cartel suspect they have been watching for two years.
To understand why this part of Spain sees so much cocaine, Stacey travels to the source - Apartado, Colombia. There she meets one of the biggest smugglers in the region. Faced with highly organised criminal gangs and the insatiable demand for drugs in Europe, Stacey debates whether this a war the police can ever win.

@Ryan88881
@Ryan88881 2 жыл бұрын
I don't understand why you people always ask these naive questions instead of just doing basic research lol. For one, these aren't secrets. Second, the authorities in the regions they're being shipped to obviously already know all this and a number of them are literally involved themselves. Third, these criminals don't lose anything by doing these interviews and are often compensated financially or through other means but either way it often takes months and months of convincing and persuasion on behalf of the journalists' contact fixer or foreign correspondent. Fixers who get journalists access to criminals are a real profession, it's not some grand conspiracy theory.
@Mynameismurph
@Mynameismurph 2 жыл бұрын
@@Ryan88881 the logic is not making sense though. For example a cocaine dealer in Colombia worth millions who is on the run does an interview with VICE. why?

How much do you think they are getting compensated? What do you think Vice budget is for interviews that get posted on KZbin?
@Ryan88881
@Ryan88881 2 жыл бұрын
@@Mynameismurph This isn't VICE this is BBC (unless you're just giving an example) but I don't see what part of "fixer" and "months and months of convincing and persuasion" you don't understand lol. Journalism has worked this way for years and from what I remember, even Escobar did an on-camera interview or two in the early 80s. Also people need to keep in mind that we only see interviews with the ones who said yes. I'm sure plenty turn it down. And I can't give you exact dollar amounts but these brands like VICE and BBC are worth millions. They have plenty of money and less money is worth more in certain regions of the world. They probably gave him a couple grand, no more no less. And that's obviously a lot over there. I saw no indication that this guy is a millionaire in USD, probably just pesos. I also didn't hear anything about him "being on the run". At the end of the day the journalist has potential access to anyone the fixer has access to. These smugglers are just people. Plenty of them are willing to talk about the basics or even be amicable so long as their identity is concealed. It's really that simple. This journalist (Stacey Dooley) is also known internationally and is a reputable journalist that virtually any criminal can do research on or Google and see quite clearly that she's not a cop or legal threat to their operation. Considering monetized content by VICE and BBC make the companies a ton of money, a few hundred or a few grand here and there is a small price to pay for a documentary piece that will make exponentially more money than that. Lots of the time these programs aren't just on KZbin either.

I don’t like the attitude of the journalist. She acts as if he’s a bad person for exporting cocaine and she also says that authorities should be looking in the packaging of the bananas as if she wants cocaine to be seized by law enforcement. It’s not his fault that drugs are illegal and the war on drugs is happening. It’s politicians fault for starting it, continuing it, and not stopping it. It’s also the fault of the law enforcement and the militaries involved in enforcing drug laws and it is also the fault of people who accepted it, agreed with it and supported it, even though there has been a lot of drug propaganda unfortunately. The violence associated with drugs, a lot of which is done by gangs and cartels, would be stopped or reduced if all drugs were legalised properly. I’ve also seen other videos of hers which show her ignorant and Karen-like personality. She contacted social media companies and shouted outside their offices and/or headquarters on the BBC documentary ‘Stacey Dooley Investigates: Kids Selling Drugs Online’. All drugs should be legalised. All drugs should be legal.
