Accutane (isotretinoin) works by targeting the underlying causes of severe acne.
It is a powerful medication that belongs to a class of drugs called retinoids, How does it work?
1. Reducing sebum production: It reduces the amount of oil (sebum) your skin produces, which can contribute to acne.
2. Preventing clogged pores: It helps prevent clogged pores by normalizing the process of skin cell turnover.
3. Anti-inflammatory effects: It has anti-inflammatory properties that reduce redness, swelling, and inflammation associated with acne.
4. Modulating bacteria: It may also decrease the number of acne-causing bacteria on your skin.

I’m 20 year old college student currently on my third month of accutane and if your thinking about taking it take it. i’ve done all the donts while on it. drinking, being out in the sun, not wearing sunburn, not using enough moisturizer, and along with coming from a family with a history of extreme mental health problems this has been the best decision of my life when it comes to acne. had severe back acne and mild facial acne and after three months it’s literally gone. only side effects i’ve experience is dryness and some nosebleeds from my nose being dry. that’s it. no hair loss, no depression, no liver failure, no joint pain. nothing. most of the people you see online are going to tell you horror stories about bc that’s why they’re online. they’re looking for people who have had these same experiences they’ve had while most of the people who take it don’t even think twice about it bc for the most part the drug works. take it seriously, if you want your acne gone take it

Same bro I'll be turning 20 this month and in college, started accutane like 2 weeks ago and I'm having dry lips, eyes and pain in body, feeling week. I workout 5-6 days in a week and do proper strength training, cardio and all that shit. The acnes after taking it are actually increasing on the face but I have all over the body; chest & back. Do you think I should contine it? Drying is fine but why am I feeling pain in joints?

Hate cheek area sensitivity. Spots there can last for months and years. I wonder how to get rid of them? Guess I should stop breaking out soon, currently started month 2 of accutaine 40mg. Accutane works differently on every individual. I’m sharing this in the hopes my comment can be somewhat helpful. Please be careful because accutane DID NOT WORK for me. My skin got WORSE! And by worse I literally mean, I went from having very moderate pimple to huge cystic acne. And no, it’s not purging. I was on accutane for about a year, but every single day my skin just got worse. I was with a very well known dermatologist in my country, and I still regret it. I went to him because I started getting 3-4 pimples due to the mask because of Covid. And that dermatologist put me on accutane, my biggest mistake what not researching about the medication before taking it, that’s because I know that dermatologist so well. And after that, my acne got worse to the point that I stopped accutane myself and I change my dermatologist. Please take note, the acne I had while I was accutane left me very very deep intense atrophy scars. And if y’all know, atrophy scars don’t go away unless we do a laser. Please be mindful before taking accutane, cause I regret it. I don’t get acne like last time but my skin is filled with the scars from it and it won’t go away. Please, I really wish I would’ve let be since the start. So please be very careful

@@polukrvniprinc2062 no I totally get it! But yeah, like I said on my top comment, the dermatologist just gave me the accutane, he gave me the lowest mg of it BUT nope I wasn’t told if it was hormonal or anything, I explained about my mask situation and the dr proceeded with agreeing to it, what pissed me is that he is a very well known dermatologist in my country. But after that I did a lot of research with accutane, even if it’s not hormonal acne, Accutane doesn’t work well with some people. Vice versa. My sister went to the same Dermatologist I am mentioning and her skin cleared up so well, she never had acne again till this date and she had hormonal acne, Accutane worked well with her hormonal acne cause this was like in 2017, so no mask situation or Covid for her. So that’s why I know maybe what the dr gave, just didn’t work for me. Cause it worked for alot of people including my sister. I’m still pissed at him cause I had like 3/4 pimple only when I saw him, I still thinks it’s crazy of him to immediately jump to giving me accutane. I truly mean well, and I want to say just source all your options before taking Accutane cause it has bad side effects. But again, different body different reaction. I’m just sad cause I have all this atrophic scars from the depression pimples I had

I’m on my 6th month and I’m taking a quite high dose and I’m so unhappy with my faceee. The only thing that is working for me right now is going dairy free and gluten free. I literally break out in huge cysts if I accidentally eat something that was cooked in butter. What did end up working for you?

Dr. Somji's explanation is accurate. Accutane (isotretinoin) is used to address severe acne by diminishing oil production, preventing the formation of microcomedones, decreasing inflammation, and suppressing the growth of acne-causing bacteria. It's typically recommended when alternative treatments have been ineffective, but it requires careful monitoring due to potential side effects."

Yes, Accutane (isotretinoin) can be effective for treating various types of acne, including whiteheads on the chin. However, Accutane is typically prescribed for severe or persistent acne cases and is known to have potential side effects, so it's crucial to discuss its use thoroughly with a dermatologist.

The main problem of accutane is that people might forget the long-term cure of eliminating acnes. I know it’s painful and hurtful when we see the mirror and acnes that spread all over our face. Severe acne issue is the case accutane must use because that’s the clearest solution we can possibly get. Lots of people talk about the side effects of non-pregnancy, depression and dry of our skin and lips. Those are horrible causes, but the main problem is the recurrence when we stop using accutane for our health. Majority of people know that the breakout of acne is much higher and faster and it has an immune that rejects the natural medical and biological care. We need to look this disease in a long term, like eating healthy meals as much as possible, doing workout for getting our oils out of our faces by sweating and drink enough water to get the water into our face. And finding the best skin care product is the number one assingment we need to check out.

My derm wants me to take this. I asked if hormonal acne could be a possibility and she didn't bother to initiate any test or labs. Should I trust this dermatologist?

No, try to speak to the doctor. My dermat suggested some tests and put me on antibiotics first. Only after it didn’t work, she suggested accutane and I’m having monthly consultations with her if I face any side effects.

You certainly need assessment to exclude a hormonal cause as the treatment is quite different and if you have accutane when yiu have hormonal acne you have a high risk of recurrence 🙏

Don’t take accutane it can cause permanent hair thinning/ pre mature balding. My hair got super thin while on accutane. While it got better 4 years later my hair never was what it was before accutane

See your dermatologist. Pay your co-pay. You will need to get blood work done and have a negative pregnancy test. After a month they can prescribe you the medicine. Your insurance will determine the cost. Should be very expensive

If you are young (teens & young 20s), please don't take this crap! I took it my junior year of high school and I STILL suffer from intense back pain, stiff joints, sore right arm joints, dry skin, and dry mouth & lips!!! I AM 24 NOW 😫

Acne on the cheek area is usually a sign of bad nutrition. Fix you diet and it should alleviate. Also sleep is key to good skin. Allow your body to heal itself and sleep is best for that ❤

I am also on Accutane. 20mg daily. It does not darken the face. It actually gives a glow over face. The scars get cleared up slowly.

It's natural for teenagers to have acne don't meddle with it keep your face clean and steam it regularly also use face masks before taking random chemicals

@@KingJC. no it’s actually not this simple. I am 14yrs old also and I have pimples /blemishes since I was like 10. Back then it was natural like a random few pimples. Around 2-3 months ado it started to get worse and worse so now I have to take accutane and I’m on day 2. So basically don’t say it’s regular, it could be but when it’s starting to be acne or getting worse, u better visit a dermatologist who will say if it’s alright or u have to take accutane. Sometimes there’s no way back, u just have acne and don’t have a choice 😃
