Actually it is a misconception that cows have to be bred every year to produce milk. Many hobby and organic farms actually use an 18 to 24 month cycle instead of a yearly one because it causes less stress for the cows. A dairy cow that is bred every year is actually in their early pregnancy at the same time they are at their peak milk production which is very hard energy wise on their bodies. Also, cows can continue to produce milk for up to 3 years pretty easily as long as they are milked regularly, there are actually some records of cows staying in lactation for 5 years or longer. It is just that after about 6-8 months the amount they produce per day starts to drop off pretty dramatically, usually leveling off to around a half to a third of their peak production after about 10 months which is why most high yield commercial farms are on a 12-14 month cycle instead. Honestly there are some pretty serious debate on if longer cycles should be required for dairy farming, not only does the longer cycling produce far less calves but it also extends the average production life for each cow. Commercial dairy cows on a yearly cycle are often replaced by age 5 while cows that are cycled longer are often still milking well at 8-9 and can even still produce longer than that. Banning steroids and hormones has drastically helped the general health of dairy cattle at the cost of lower overall yields, increasing the length of breeding cycles would do the same although it would also cause a similar spike in dairy prices for brands that are not already using that practice.

Depending on how ethical the farm is they either get formula, nurse from their mother or in some cases slaughtered (usually only males) There are ethical dairy farms but sadly many aren’t

If that’s the case, I question our consumption of cow’s milk. I’m sure ancient folks drank animal milk in few portions, but I feel like man is not really meant to drink animal milk since is it considered sustenance for early infants.

It's a great source of nutrition and we can already consume it because we are mammals too. No reason not to, even if it's not ideal, we eat lots of not ideal things. In the past, the bulk of dairy consumed would be in other products though. Since raw milk quickly ferments on its own.

Not my mom , why I drink from them ? Better just be Hindu , don't take beef, make a respect that we drink milk from the mother cow and treat it like a part of our mom as well, a holy cow...
