How Does Evolution Exist If Time Is an Illusion?

Does evolution exist? With the evidence seemingly stacked in favour of materialism - the big bang, billions of years of geology, bones, dinosaurs, and more - how does our current evolution theory fit into the consciousness-only model of the nature of reality? That is, within the concept of oneness, where infinite consciousness is all that exists and time and space are an illusion, how do you explain dinosaur bones and ageing? Does consciousness evolve? Does the Universe actually evolve? Does the mind evolve? What was here before the big bang? Is evolution real or an illusion?

If you were to ask this question to Shri Ramana Maharshi, he would say... enquire who is asking these questions? Once you find out the real "Self" these questions automatically disappear... Finite mind always asks questions as it can't grasp the infinite! Since there's a concept of time and space for the finite mind, there's also a concept of evolution of things over a period of time and space. In dreams, we do not question the existence of objects as during dreams everything seems real, the entity within the dream will also find the concepts of time and evolution of things as logical and reasonable. This is the wonder of the human mind in that it can create things out of nothing....not absolutely"nothing" however. It creates things out of the ever existing Consciousness...

I had 2 NDE's and there was no time. Just pure awareness and everything was simultaneous NOW. Awareness could be directed anywhere at will, past, future, other realms/dimensions all at once! Multiple lives were being experienced simultaneously as if Awareness projected a bit of itself into many various "lives" at once and it felt more real and natural than "here".

@@chrizles The NDE's happened when I "died" twice and literally had doctors trying to revive me and it wasn't working. They were doing chest compression, bagging me and giving me shots to try to get my heart started and they were kind of panicking because nothing was working. I left my body, watched everything that was happening then went to the light which was the light of BEING. That's when the experience of pure awareness, no time and other lives/dimensions happened.

Love this comment, I had a similar experience on a very high dose of psychedelics thirty years ago and your statement corresponds to what I saw there. I’ve reflected on and discussed many times this fact that everything is happening simultaneously and must admit I’ve never really come up with a decent explanation as to how that all works. It is the subatomic nature of the "dinosaur bones" that might better make Rupert's case for the questioner. That apparent structure of bones is of the quantum filed, so called. According to the principle of non locality, so called, each mysterious particle of the quantum field, including those of the bones, shares the same non-space /non-time as every other particle. Subatomic particles masquerading as matter exist in non materiality. And so the particles are not necessarily particles, but waves, frequencies, what have you, or "mind stuff" within the underlying reality that is Infinite Consciousness, or Being, or Suchness. Whatever you want to call it. Through the lens of the senses though and the human brain we behold the appearance of solid structure within the concept of time and space. My question to Rupert would be then: How is it that was all behold the same interpretations of matter. We all agree that they are dinosaur bones, when we see them? How is the trance collective? I suppose it would be that it is not so much that we are all in agreement, but that those bones are the form consciousness takes, given its play in the quantum field. But ultimately, in Truth, they are essentially Brahman. Pure Consciousness.

Oh yes! Nothing stands out from God's consciousness, so that answers my own mental dilemma when it comes to Non-duality. They often say that trees, people etc, don't actually exists. "Exist" means to stand out or be apart from something else. God doesn't exist, God simple IS, .. so if God just IS and nothing stand apart from God, then Nothing exists either, everything just IS. Quantum entanglement suggests there is no space, as two entangled particles can be light years apart and behave identically-with no apparent communication between them. Taking what Rupert said into consideration, there are no light years (i.e., distance) separating them, so the behavior is not at all surprising. The non dual path removes the "spookiness" that Einstein described.🙂

I just read the title and I’d have to say that time is only existent due to the perception of decay and change through the lens of an already evolved being able to precise such changes. So millions of years of trees growing and rock formations poping up and low level life evolution isn’t really millions of years due to nothing being able to perceive time at all. This is close to my question - in the consciousness-only model, what are processes (eg evolution, growth, entropy...)? For example if a plant will grow at a particular rate in certain conditions. If the apparently external things that apparently undergo processes don't really exist and consciousness does not itself undergo any kind of process then what if anything does? Presumably thought and perception? By studying how plants grow given certain conditions, are we not then learning about the world but learning about our own minds? How does this work?

To answer the question, there were dinosaurs. Rupert's answer was not helpful for the questioner. Dinosaurs existed the way we exist. The history of the solar system happened. Evolution happened. Who was the observer at the Big Bang? God. Who perceived the dinosaur era? The spirits that inhabited dinosaur bodies. Sometimes you have to understand where the questioner is coming from to help them. Here, Rupert just repeats his basic tenets (which are true) but does not meet the questioner at his level or his paradigm.

What about people who were born blind? They cannot dream in color, because they have never experienced color. Infact, we cannot imagine what we have never experienced. When we dream at night, even if the dream Is odd, the contents of the dream can only be filled with that of which you have already experienced. Say a chair for example. It's true, the chair does not exist so to speak. It's definition is only how we percieve it. So there needs to be something there to percieve. I believe we all share one consciousness, we are love itself. Our eyes work like windows to a 3 dimensional realm were not actually a part of. However, we can interact with the 3 dimensional world by means of piloting a 3 dimensional vessel. We "mainifest" our imagination into what we call "reality". But the reality we experience is more so a narrative written by perception.

I don't think he really answered the question of evolution sufficiently. He started to get there when he challenged the materialist view of reality, but then he kind of spun it into a talk about the evolution of consciousness and the experience of reality from a non-dual perspective. Fascinating, but not really pertinent to the question. I suppose a question like this is hard to answer without first having a discussion about the consciousness model vs material model of reality. Most people are gonna assume the materialist model when asking a science based question. You'd have to challenge their assumption that consciousness emerges from the physical world.

Isn't this just semantics? If matter exists, then I can hit my head with a club hammer and that will smash my brains in. If matter only appears to exist, I can hit my illusory head with an illusory hammer and smash my illusory brains in. Does it really matter then, whether it exists or not, bearing in mind we still have to live with its consequences? Whether it _really_ exists or whether it _seems_ to exist, either way, we have to respect the boundaries that it restricts us with, or _appears to_ restrict us with. That is to say, however enlightened a person might be, however illusory matter is to them, if they hit their head with a club hammer they will smash their brains in, illusory or otherwise. Neither can they fly or walk through walls. So does this really matter to me, the student? When the spiritual penny finally drops, we will see this anyway, won't we? Weird that the quantum physicist would say “no”. I’m a physicist and we’re only now starting to look at the world from the perspective of the neuroscience - check out Carlo Rovelli’s video on the Philosophy of Time where he explains just that: time stems from the brain. Also check out Royal Society video on Quantum Fields (what are we made of?): there is no difference between this and that. It’s just one big fluctuating field that has no beginning and no end. Just seems to collapse from the perspective of the observer. So no: Dinosaurs don’t exist nor have they ever - just a big ass dream…

Paradoxically, in an absence of time/space there would be no "evolution." The question of "evolution" would not arise. An experience of time/space is wholly dependent upon memory. No memory, no time. Unity Consciousness wherein there is no other, expresses and sustains all matter/Maya. In an absence of Consciousness, matter could not precipitate. All matter is simultaneously of and within the Singularity of Unity Consciousness, which is bound by neither time nor space. Duality is for the choosing -- either or, this or that -- Light over Darkness -- Truth over falsehood -- Goodness over evil. Life in Duality, is a pro-active, transient endeavor.

Yes, of course consciousness evolves! 💖🙏🏽 we are consciousness decended and extended into density by a vision of ourselves in this time, space, reality, dimension and timeline we have chosen to experience in this Now moment by powers emotional magnetism. We have attracted into coalescence through the intensity of our emotion. Through this manifesting power, as a singular perspective of all of reality (our ego). So as such, we are God (consciousness) evolving through the infinite experiences of sentience (and beyond) as each ego chooses, lives, loves or rejects love…dealing with the impacts of those choices and discovering anew. This guy's interpretation of consciousness and time is an articulated word salad & mashed up with truths and his personal perceptions (which okay & is his right). If he believes that the world didn't Exist before there was Consciousness then how does he reconcile what he is saying now to say a time before he was born.. He would of had no earthly awareness then,,, no chance to articulate or explain his theories of the universe,,, so does that mean the earth didn't Exist? Of course it did & those living were Conscious of that. Hey. I’m a bit stuck understanding who I really am. With the following thought experiment I can cancel out already a bunch of things I am not: Let’s say we would copy someone’s atoms exactly to teleport him/her. Would that copied version be you? Intuitively and maybe logically, the answer is no. So we can conclude that our DNA (which was exactly copied) does not define us. Neither do our memories. ‘I am not him, because I am not watching through his eyes!’ Also, If we would ask that person if he was still the same one, he would say yes, because that’s what all his/her memories tell her. Also, the person would act exactly like the ‘original’ would. There would be no way to prove or to be sure it is the same observer. So that made me think, what if this is actually always the case? We just think I am that, because our memories are telling that we are that. But than, who is observing? Or is every fraction someone ‘else’ observing? And why does it feel smooth and are all those ‘different’ observers each fraction of a second, or maybe always the same observer, always observing through the same body system? It really feels like there is a constant, why through this eyes? Oh god, I don’t even know what to think anymore haha, I’m really thinking weird stuff. Than I thought, maybe if we could cut out the concept of time, it would make more sense? Could you help me a bit please? And btw, sorry, I’m a bit stoned so forgive me if I wrote weird things.

The Holy Trinity You are a tree-fold being. You consist of body, mind, and spirit. You could also call these the physical, the non-physical, and the meta-physical. This is the Holy Trinity, and it has been called by many names. That which you are, I am. I am manifested as Three-In-One. Some of your theologians have called this Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Your psychiatrists have recognized the triumvirate and called it conscious, subconscious, and super-conscious. Your philosophers have called it the id, the ego, and the super ego. Science calls this energy, matter, and antimatter. Poets speak of mind, heart, and soul. New Age thinkers refer to body, mind, and spirit. Your time is divided into past, present, and future. Could this not be the same as subconscious, conscious, and superconscious? Space is likewise divided into three: here, there, and the space between. It is defining and describing this "space between" that becomes difficult, elusive. The moment you begin defining or describing, the space you describe becomes "here" or "there." Yet we know this "space between" exists. It is what holds "here" and "there" in place - just as the eternal now holds "before" and "after" in place. These three aspects of you are actually three energies. You might call them Thought, Word, and Action. All three put together produce a result - which in your language and understanding is called a feeling, or experience. Your soul (subconscious, id, spirit, past, etc.) is the sum total of every feeling you've ever had (created). Your awareness of some of these is called your memory. When you have a memory, you are said to re-member. That is, to put back together. To reassemble the parts. When you reassemble all the parts of you, you will have re-membered Who You Really Are. GOD THE FATHER is knowing - the parent of all understanding, the begetter of all experience, for you cannot experience that which you do not know. GOD THE SON is experiencing - the embodiment, the acting out, of all that the Father knows of Itself, for you cannot be that which you have not experienced. GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT is being - the disembodiment of all that the Son has experienced of Itself; the simple, exquisite is-ness possible only through the memory of knowing and experiencing. This simple being is bliss. It is God-state, after knowing and experiencing Itself. It is that for which God yearned in the beginning. Of course, you are well past the point where you must have it explained to you that the father-son descriptions of God have nothing to do with gender. I use here the picturesque speech of your most recent scriptures. Much earlier holy writings placed this metaphor in a mother-daughter context. Neither is correct. Your mind can best hold the relationship as: parent-offspring. Or: that-which-gives-rise-to, and that-which-is-risen. Adding the third part of the Trinity produces this relationship: That which gives rise to / That which is risen / That which is. This Triune Reality is God's signature. It is the divine pattern. The three-in-one is everywhere found in the realms of the sublime. You cannot escape it in matters dealing with time and space, God and consciousness, or any of the subtle relationships. On the other hand, you will not find the Triune Truth in any of life's gross relationships. The Triune Truth is recognized in life's subtle relationships by everyone dealing with such relationships. Some of your religions have described the Triune Truth as Father, Son. and Holy Ghost. Some of your psychiatrists use the term super-conscious, conscious, and subconscious. Some of your spiritualists say mind, body, and spirit. Some of your philosophers say a thing is not true for you until it is true in thought, word, and deed. When discussing time, you speak of three times only: past, present, future. Similarly, there are three moments in your perception - before, now, and after. In terms of spatial relationships, whether considering the points in the universe, or various points in your own room, you recognize here, there, and the space in between. In matters of gross relationships, you recognize no "in-between." That is because gross relationships are always dyads, whereas relationships of the higher realm are invariably triads. Hence, there is left-right, up-down, big-small, fast-slow, hot-cold, and the greatest dyad ever created: Male-Female. There are no in-between in these dyads. A thing is either one thing or the other, or some greater or lesser version in relationship to one of these polarities. Within the realm of gross relationships, nothing conceptualized can exist without a conceptualization of its opposite. Most of your day-to-day experience is foundationed in this reality. Within the realm of sublime relationships nothing which exists has an opposite. All is One, and everything progresses from one to the other in a never-ending circle. Time is such a sublime realm, in which what you call past, present, and future exists inter-relationally. That is, they are not opposites, but rather parts of the same whole; progressions of the same idea; cycles of the same energy; aspects of the same immutable Truth. If you conclude from this that past, present, and future exist at one and the same "time," you are right. (Yet now is not the moment to discuss that. We can get into this in much greater detail when we explore the whole concept of time - which we will do late.) The world is the way it is because it could not be any other way and still exist in the gross realm of physicality. Earthquakes and hurricanes, floods and tornadoes, and events that you call natural disasters are but movements of the elements from one polarity to the other. The whole birth-death cycle is part of this movement. These are the rhythms of life, and everything in gross reality is subject to them, because life itself is a rhythm. It is a wave, a vibration, a pulsation at the very heart of the All That Is.

Pure consciousness is absolute existence. God makes things through the direct act of becoming the things which He creates. In the beginning the One differentiated into the many. The One entered into the many and became the Self of each. The being within everything is the One. When you merge with this nonlocal Self, you become one with the Self of all that exists. The One is the Higher Self of all. You are the One. The God Spirit In Me Is The Same God Spirit In You, And The Spirit Of All Beings. Enlightenment Is The realization That You Are All Part Of The Universal Spirit Of All That Exists, Which Is GOD. Each of us is the universal spirit projecting a particular point of view. My Self is inseparable from all that exists, just as your self is inseparable from all that exists. You are an aspect of Infinite Intelligence, and Infinite Intelligence is the source of all that exists. Therefore you are the source of all that exists and you create your own experience. Everything is possible because everything exists within you. The same unbounded potential of the Infinite Spirit also resides in each and every one of us. Everything in the universe is consciousness. Space and time in all planes of reality are only projections within universal consciousness. There really is no here or there for everything is at one place where Mind is. Mind does not move at all. Mind simply is (Not to be confused with the brain). Mind is everywhere yet nowhere. Mind is nowhere but Here, Now. We are all existing together as a singularity in one place and time. Everything is one, Here and Now. Your soul is the reflection of all souls. You are the Other. Without the other, you would not exist. You are defined by your relationships with others. You would need to describe the whole universe in order to define a single person. Therefore every single person is the whole universe. Your soul is both personal and universal at the same time. Everyone is a reflection of yourself. You are in a hall of mirrors where every reflection of yourself appears different. Others you admire reflect the qualities you most cherish in yourself. Others you detest reflect the qualities you most deny in yourself. Each person you see is a different version of you. The outer world is a mirror of yourself at any place and time. If you want to know the state of your personal consciousness, just look around and see what is happening to you. If you want to know the state of the collective consciousness, just look around at what is happening in the world. Your personal reality is synchronistically orchestrated by your sense of Self at all times. If a critical mass of people expressed their higher selves, they would cause a transformation in collective consciousness and the world reality. Every time a person rises in personal consciousness, he moves the state of the world towards a higher one than before. Life on other planets What do you think you are observing? Life on other planets. In other solar systems, other galaxies. I suppose if we gathered sufficient technology, this is what we might observe. This is what I assume HEBs have the ability to observe right now, given their advanced technology. You said Yourself that they are observing us, right here on Earth. So that is what we would be observing. But what is it, actually, that you would be observing? I don't understand the question. Then I will give you the answer. You are observing your own past. What??? When you look up, you see the stars - as they were hundreds, thousands, millions of light-years ago. What you are seeing is not actually there. You are seeing what was there. You are seeing the past. And it is a past in which you participated. Say again??? You were there, experiencing those things, doing those things. I was? Have I not told you that you have lived many lives? Yes, but...but what if I were to travel to one of these places so many light-years away? What if I had the ability to actually go there? To be there "right now," in the very moment that I am not able to "see" on Earth for hundreds of light-years? What would I see then? Two "me's"? Are You saying that I would then see my Self, existing in two places at once? Of course! And you would discover what I have told you all along - that time does not exist, and that you are not seeing "the past" at all! That is it all happening NOW. You are also, "right now," living lives in what in Earth time, would be your future. It is the distance between your many "Selves" that allows "you" to experience discreet identities, and "moments in time." Thus, the "past" that you re-member and the future that you would see, is the "now" that simply IS. Whoa. That's incredible. Yes, and it is true on another level as well. It is as I have told you before: there is only One of us. So when you look up at the stars you are seeing what you would call OUR PAST. I can't keep up with this! Hang on. There's one thing more I have to tell you. You are always seeing what by your terms you would define as the "past," even when you are looking at what is right in front of you. I am? It is impossible to see The Present. The Present "happens," then turns into a burst of light, formed by energy dispersing, and that light reaches your receptors, your eyes, and it takes time for it to do that. All the while the light is reaching you, life is going on, moving forward. The next event is happening while the light from the last event is reaching you. The energy burst reaches your eyes, your receptors send that signal to your brain, which interprets the data and tells you what you are seeing. Yet that is not what is now in front of you at all. It is what you think you are seeing. That is,vyou are thinking about what you have seen, telling yourself what it is, and deciding what you are going to call it, while what is happening "now" is preceding your process, and awaiting it. To put this simply, I am always one step ahead of you. My God, this is unbelievable. Now listen. The more distance you place between your Self and the physical location of any event, the further into the "past" that event recedes. Place yourself a few light-years back, and what you are looking at happened very, very long ago, indeed. Yet it did not happen "long ago." It is merely physical distance which has created the illusion of "time," and allowed you to experience your Self as being both "here, now" all the while you are being "there, then"! One day you will see that what you call time and space are the same thing. Then you will see that everything is happening right here, right now. This is....this is....wild. I mean, I don't know what to make of all this. When you understand what I have told you, you will understand that nothing you see is real. You are seeing the image of what was once an event, yet even that image, that energy burst, is something you are interpreting. Your personal interpretation of that image is called your image-ination. And you can use your imagination to create anything. Because - and here is the greatest secret of all - your image-ination works both ways. Please?

I think that time existed in the universe, maybe under some different interpretation, prior the mentioned 5 BY. Maybe life on Earth is (or was) not the single life form in the universe, there were already other life forms, or even civilizations, prior in the universe, which were able to have an interpretation of time.

If apparent change (time) has been interpreted and quantified in different ways by pre-human minds, those models would be inseperable from those minds -- as our human models of change are inseperable from the human mind. The perception of time and time itself are one in the same. There is no time apart from the perception of apparent change. In fact this whole life is a dream, a spectacle of the one real infinite power which alone can be called God. The moment God is aware of itself, aka you be aware of your actual ever-present presence instead of focusing on anything else. If you do not identify with it, and you simply remain aware of God, you will actually experience that you have it. Whatever it is you want or don't want. All of it is for the glory and the joy of God. I love God. We are never lacking. We are already living in abundance it is simply an unfolding spectacle. We never lack, it is only our attention which can be put on the conception of lack. Real reality and being and existence never lacks anything, it's attention simply needs to be on itself, then you will very quickly realize you are the Buddha nature, infinity, God and will have come to experience a super-conscious experience led by a higher intelligence which has already scripted into your consciousness anything that must appear. Whatever happens just keep being aware of God, have faith in your all powerful and infinitely intelligent being. The people will tell you that you are lacking, but you must not listen and put all of your attention on God, what will happen is absolutely miraculous. The questioner asked a legitimate question about dinosaur bones and other ancient artifacts and Evolution and this guy went on about explaining everything but what the questioner asked. I think that these enlightened people are going about their teaching methods the wrong way. Almost ALL of us on this Earth have been indoctrinated throughout our entire lives to be identified with our bodies and thoughts. We All go by the time and our 5 senses. History is taught to us throughout our entire childhood up until we're adults. How do these people expect people to break through that level of brainwashing by just saying, "Have you ever been to the past?" or "Have you ever experienced the future?" It seems to me that if these enlightened people would start collectively combining their wisdom, they would be able to come up with a better strategy for getting us seekers to understand what they mean. All of them constantly state that the mind can't comprehend what they're saying but most of us are listening with our minds.

Okay some of this is concerning, almost dogmatic. Don't think about the material world because everything is consciousness because all we ever experience is consciousness. Thank you and goodnight. Doesn't sit right with me. The way I think about it is consciousness lies right at the intersection between the material and virtual world (virtual referring to virtual quantum particles, potential for some particle to exist). There are two sides of the coin where consciousness exists, it is right at the intersection of a physically real universe and a grouping of time independent virtual photons constituting a model of that world within physical beings that "give rise to them", the material world provides a causally valid description of time set in motion at some arbitrarily far past event and heading towards some arbitrarily far away future endpoint. An infinite number of physically real universes could exist that do not give rise to consciousness and are therefore not perceived by us and not "real" the way we understanding this universe to be "real". Similarly, there is some infinitely far away boundary or horizon that virtual massless particles are capable of reaching but matter particles are not. And thus we never find a causally consistent, physically real description of a conscious observer in the infinite future because a material universe with a hot big bag will gain too much entropy to build a conscious observer, or decay before a fluctuation allows it to happen. And thus we don't observe universes that don't describe us, and we don't observe ourselves where there is no universe to describe us. Consciousness makes the physical world real, and the physical world makes consciousness consistent and ordered enough to have perceptions that model a world it gave rise to in the first place. Another way to think about it is consciousness is a force, and the material world is matter. Energy describes the complex relationship between the two and without the other, one is not defined.

Therefore it appears mind is all that exists so mind as Rupert says will appear to evolve, but mind also was born and will for each version of I, die. To live as pure consciousness is God living life as IT truly is. But no one/mind understanding IT. IT/Consciousness being timeless always unchanging source. Basically, The universe must be a possibility until consciousness looks at it. So, it's said that the universe is built in such a way to make such a sentient observer possible and when this sentience occurs then the whole universe, only going backwards in time become manifested. Now imagine that the Big Bang isn't even there in a chronological sense we're use to thinking. The Big Bang is there but only when a conscious observer looks at the possibilities collapses the possibilities into actual events and then only going backward in time all this stuff galaxies,solar systems, supernovas Big Bang, happened only going backward in time from the event of that first observation. Did big bang happen? Only in our memories.

Okay this might sound silly but as I am watching this video with a pair of my glasses on and while the sun is shining and the trees are dancing, I had the reflections blurring my vision to see what’s going on the screen. So I took a screenshot hoping to see Rupert, the trees, me. And guess the obvious? It’s just Rupert in a certain position. I was kinda hoping to see me, the trees, and Rupert. Where was I seeing that reflection of my face and trees dancing? I mean I am certain I saw it on the screen but when I tried to capture it, it wasn’t there! Try it, it’s fun!
