How does eye dominance effect putting?

Discussed this with you before Greg. This is really starting to get to me on Driver swing as a Right eye dominant golfer. Coupled with a neck injury, I'm really starting to lose sight of the ball at top of driver swing. This leads to an unconscious lateral shift of whole upper body to get back vision of ball. Which of course leads to lots of issues. Frustrating to say the least. Also starting to think it leads to issues with putting. Interesting topic that nobody seems to talk about.

It’s definitely not spoken about a lot because it’s not mentioned in any coaching manuals and / or by golf professionals in general. I have only just stumbled across this in the past few years and have been looking into it a bit to learn more. The eyes can play tricks a lot.

This is interesting, and what I'm about to mention might have nothing to do with eye dominance or everything to do with it. I use a line on my ball and I always aim it at the hole then pick a line to start the putt on in my head. When I aim the line on the ball on the line I need to hit it on l lets say a cup outside, it doesn't seem right, like I'm not giving the putt enough break. This is more obvious on longer putts or putts with more break.

It took me a long time to get a good setup as most instructors don’t take eye dominance into consideration. I’m right handed and left eye dominant. My understanding is this isn’t common. I have to put the ball a little more forward in my stance to matchup the alignment mark and have all look correct when I’m setup to putt.

I have the same situation and also place the ball more forward in the stance to see my lines better. Often eyes over the intended putting line are best when the front eye is the dominant eye.

Interesting. I tend to feel more comfortable aligning a put with an open stance particularly for shorter puts.Perhaps Im right eye dominant? I too have issues aligning a put with a line on the ball. It never looks right to me. Great video once again.

It definitely sounds like you could be right eye dominant. Maybe test yourself and see what happens. 😃

I am right eye dominant. More difficult hitting the driver. Shortened my backswing a bit. Opened my stance for putting, way better results.

So is this the same for a full swing if you pick a spot in front of your club on a full swing? I’m right handed but left eye dominant

I can now see why the aim could be out .Q does it make any difference as to type of putter neck. like you I am left eye dominant. should I look at one style of putter over another.?

Often you are able to aim one type better than another. The type of alignment guides on the putter can play a huge role too.

I am left eye dominant and right handed like you. Do you think a plumbers neck (newport 2) with offset is bad because it's putting the ball further back in my stance? It fits my slight arc stroke but sometimes it's hard to line up....I also have a phantom x 5.5 that is less offset and a little easier to line up. Just wanted to hear your thoughts on the plumbers neck for someone RH/Left Eye dominant vs a slant neck mallet with less offset. Thanks!

Good question but in 10 cases out of 10, I’d be opting for the putter that is easiest to line up.
