Barry's powers actually get pretty tragic when we consider the fact that, during the time he was dead, he witnessed as a speeding ghost many great events that almost destroyed the Universe, being unable to help his friends. In fact, this is perfectly depicted in the novelization of "Crisis on Infinite Earths", in which the spirit of Barry, who acts as the main narrator, helplessly witnesses all the tragic events surrounding the elimination of the Multiverse, being the death of Kara (with whom he once shared an intimate afternoon) and the uncertainty of what will happen to Iris what hurts him the most. The epilogue of the book in which Barry's spirit ends up in the future, sees an elderly Iris advising their grandson Bart (who inherited his grandfather's super speed), and realizes his time has finally ended and must now go to Heaven is just heartbreaking

I’m not a comic book reader, but Ive always liked the flash. Isn’t the flashes ability something that he has to activate to use? Could’ve sworn that he has to like tap into some sort of like energy to go faster and the more he taps into it the faster he gets or something like that. If that’s the case wouldn’t conversations be perceived at a normal speed until he activated his abilities? Just looked it up and what I’m talking about is called the speed force right? It would still probably suck because literally anything that triggers his reflexes at all would make him see every thing extremely slowly for a little bit but isn’t that all he really has to deal with?

Yea I’ve thought about this too and it makes a lot of speedster fights look dumb cause you realize “wait a minute these dudes are sprinting down dozens of city blocks chasing each other instead of just punching each other”💀 like a realistic speedster fight would look like a 2 dudes standing, they turn into a blur for like half a second and then one is knocked out💀

@@ClockworkGearhead I’m actually a Black Belt in Kenpo Karate and trained for a decade. In a fight you are not gonna be running down fifty city blocks, across the country, or around the world several times. I’m just saying that speedster fights would look different if two guys had speed powers for real.

@T€RB I mean assuming they’re the same speed wouldn’t they see each other coming? In these fights they’re usually running alongside each other for the most part. It’s just impractical. I mean obviously it’s comic stuff so of course we’re subverting expectations, but still it seems funny to me sometimes lol. Unless you’re arguing that when they run and the speed they pick up makes their attacks more potent which I think is something they do so I can understand that I suppose.

I actually think it does make sense, zoning out and making things feel instant. It's kinda like at work when sometimes 1 hour feels like 10, but other times you get into a groove and suddenly your entire shift feels like it ended just after it started. Sometimes you can kinda turn your consciousness off and just go with the flow of things, and in many regards it's better for certain activities that you don't think and let your body take over. He probably doesn't have to consciously run and decide every single step, much like we don't. When you get really good at running, your body fit and acclimatized, you can suddenly begin a mile run and end up doing like 2 or something. I've done it a few times back then when I was more consistent at running; for the Flash who does nothing BUT running, he could probably run while sleeping almost.

The Flash movie seemed to heavily imply that Barry was neurodivergent, though I think it could’ve been done better. It was mostly just using the tropes that all people with ADHD have either experienced or heard from other neurodivergent people without showing much of how his neurodivergence might affect his time as the Flash or vice versa iirc. I would *looove* to see a more elegant and thought out interpretation of neurodivergent Flash, showing how his ADHD conflicts with his infinite power to solve half his problems in an instant, but otherwise giving him certain advantages as he thinks in a way that none of his villains ever think.

I think it actually makes sense that he intuitively can spend as little attention on each subtask he has to complete as he chooses to. Like he needs to cover a stretch of 1000 kilometres, so he can see a clear path for 100 metres, he just slows down the brain and speeds through. Basically he’s there in an instant. Then he checks for the next safe stretch and does the same with it. It’s basically choosing a route a world that is standing still and then pressing Fast Travel. But if another speedster approaches him in the middle of it, I think he probably should be able to react intuitively. In all honesty if I was the Flash I would have already worked through all of my emotional shit. Most relationship problems take a walk outside and an hour of clear-headed thinking for me. Imagine being able to do that and return into the conversation instantly.

The panel about the girlfriend was actually Wally West, the 2nd Flash. Wally West & Bart Allen (distant relative of Berry Allen from the future) are the only ones with the Speed Force that really struggle with mastery over get bored or not being able to slow down. Mostly because Wally had struggled with depression, making it hard find purpose/excitement in their civil life without being the Flash. While Bart basically suffered from ADHD due to being born with the Speed Force & having it accelerate his aging, leaving him as a 3-5yrs old in a teenagers body.

I was just thinking about this the other day while imagining I had super speed like The Flash from the CW while at my job. I finally did the brain work to figure this out, and I realized there are basically levels to this. 3 in fact. Barry can control how fast he thinks and perceives things through focus and wanting to do it. He doesn’t necessarily have to feel like the whole world is in slow motion while he’s running to where it’s boring for him. If he can perceive things around as fast as he can move, no matter how fast he runs, he can perceive things perfectly fine. Kind of like if you slowly upped a regular person’s speed until they actually need super speed perception to watch out for where they’re going, and after they gain that ability, everything seems normal to them. So he doesn’t feel like everyone is in slow mo, but compared to his speed, everyone is moving slower. Also I would think he can just choose to use the speed force to Flash Time himself, meaning he can default his speed into however fast he wants it to be, and just move around feeling regular, making a conversation take longer. And yes he probably zones out into doing that. Basically the world doesn’t have to be moving slower for him and utterly boring if he doesn’t want it to be. If he was in that state all the time he would go insane. I think at a certain speed, he has to then kick in his speed perception, and he can either just use more brain power to watch out for where he’s going because he can think and perceive things at super speed, or he can just go into flash time to where he doesn’t have to do much work, and can just move around while everyone stays still

This feels like one of those things a writer came up with one time when they didn't actually need to and nobody has bothered to correct it. Just because your reaction time is fast doesn't mean you perceive everything happening in slow motion. That's just a way for *us* as the readers/audience to visualise what that fast reaction time feels like. It also makes complete sense for him not to be in that mode all the time, think about how our own experiences differ depending on what we're doing; if I throw a ball at you while we're in the middle of a cricket match, you're much more likely to respond in time to it than if I throw it at you when you're sitting on the sofa watching TV.

@raviexthegod
@raviexthegod Жыл бұрын
Technically he’s already functionally immortal, the speedforce gives him an insane healing factor on par with Deadpool (yes I just compared a DC character to a marvel character) that allows him to heal most fatal injuries as well as heal any cancer or other age related maladies away. The Speedforce literally needs its own grim reaper to be able to kill speedsters because they can outrun regular death, and even Wally West Rebirth outran the Black Flash to the end of time, causing it to be erased.

The thing about Marvel and DC is they’ve been known for decades to make ridiculously over powered characters, but then cripple them with self doubt and mental issues as a way to “Dampen” their power. In the real world, someone with this kind of power would so much with it. The possibilities are truly unlimited.
