Brent Mason is like the Shawn Lane of playing like that with a thumbpick

He's like the Kirk Hammett of playing with a wah, but with a thumb pick, and faster, and better.

Excellent transcribing job Levi! Brent is just mind-blowingly good! Absolutely a monster jazz and country picker. Most thumbpickers alternate between the thumbpick and index finger while playing fast single note lines. Note how Brent almost never uses his index finger on his picking hand. For over 30 years I have played using the hybrid technique with a flatpick between my first finger and thumb and use my middle, ring and sometimes pinky. When I use a thumbpick my index finger is free to use but it is lazy from years of just holding a flatpick. I have found if I play without my index as a picking finger like Brent, I do ok with a thumbpick. Scotty Anderson has his own technique using his thumb, index and ring fingers in an odd picking sequence and is blazingly fast! It's tough switching from a flatpick to a thumbpick after playing so many years holding a flatpick. But it can be done....

Brent Manson played around 3 chords D G A. D Dorian scale (= minor natural from A), D scale minor natural (= dorian from G) with D altered (for jazzy). and D Bebop scale (chromatic).Levi had to struggle to do the transcription.

Imagine if Brent Mason teamed up with Scotty Anderson for a few CDs worth of Tele madness. It would be off the charts great.

Usally there is a tempo where swing feel kinda falls out and becomes straight… because of Brent’s thumbpick and playing, he can can push that limit was beyond what most players can go. Same with Scotty Anderson. Its like because of the alternating fingers and TP, there will always be a swing in there with the natural accents. Love Brent 4EVA

Who owns the rights to this show, and why don't they license it for streaming or physical media? It has some truly iconic performances.

Do you transcribe the song yourself? Or do you get the tab from somewhere?

He transcribes it. Tons of videos on his channel showing his process.

He does amazing and fast work. I hired him about a month ago and he had two minutes of very difficult guitar back in less than 24 hours. I’m always impressed with his work .
