Election ink compositions is based on silver nitrate, which can produce a stain lasting several weeks. It was first used during the 1962 Indian general election in India. The ink was developed by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-National Physical Laboratory (CSIR-NPL), a Research Institute of CSIR, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India.

We had paper ballots earlier but moved to EVM because with paper ballots, entire constituencies would have managed voting, meaning ballot boxes would be captured and votes of party would be forcibly replaced with the original. We called it booth capturing.

In India we go with our voting ids to the polling station, where our ids will be matched with an electoral roll and the roll will be crossed indicated that this person has voted and an ink will be applied on finger to indicate the same. And then we can vote and leave.

1. Centenarians means people who have crossed age of 100 years. 2. Unrecognized party means any candidate who run for the election independently, without affiliation to any existing party. 3. EVMs are not connected to the internet, so they can't be hacked remotely in any way. I casted my vote. It felt like celebrating a festival. First look at the voting machine gave me goosebumps that this machine is my tiny contribution in such a HUGE country's democracy. Felt patriotic too. :)

Pretty much the same system in India as well. Constituencies are divided into wards, and each ward has a designated polling station. These polling stations are usually schools, universities, and other large public buildings. Each voter is given a designated polling station, where you can go with your Voter ID card and a slip that is given with these details. In each polling station, you have a polling room that is decided based on where you live (the idea being that each room would normally cover 400-700 voters, so essentially a colony or a number of apartment blocks grouped together). You go in, and present your ID and slip. These are cross-referenced with the Voter list with the officials, and your name is struck off that list. You sign in a register, get your finger inked (to show that you have voted), and then go to a secluded area of the room to vote. In this secluded area, you have a EVM, where you press the button corresponding to the party you want to vote for. There is a VVPAT (Voter-verifiable paper audit trail) machine nearby, which will generate a slip with your vote. This is for cross-referencing to ensure your vote has gone to who you want it to go to. Any discrepancies can be raised here. The EVMs will finally be counted for votes on the counting day. The paper slips of the VVPAT machines are also saved, and candidates who place second and third in a constituency can request a re-count across a certain number of polling stations in their constituency. When that is done, the VVPAT slips are opened, and counted, with the results being cross-referenced with the EVM. Any mismatches here can lead to a re-election in that constituency using paper ballots, but this is not something that has happened to date. Oh, and if technology does fail, India still retains a sizeable stock and production capabilities to conduct a ballot-based election. It's just somewhat more expensive and difficult to tally on such a massive scale, which is why EVMs are used. Also, there were instances in the past when goons of a party would loot / replace the paper ballot vote boxes in order to favour their parties.

There are 2 machines 1 is EVM(electronic voting machine) where our votes gets registered and second one is Voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) machine in which physical reciept of vote is dropped. So when we press on EVM we see one receipt inside EVM by which we can confirm we voted right candidate, then that receipt keep on display for around 15 seconds, then that receipt gets dropped in VVPAT machine. Once this process gets completed machine makes sound ....then only officials can send next voter to polling booth. So while counting process they can cross tally votes registered electronically on EVM and actual copies of same in VVPAT machine

That marker on finger is for indicating that this person has voted .... its permanent marker but goes away after a few weeks (ie stays long enough that same person cant lie about not have given vote). The evm is not connected to internet or bluetooth and is programmed on low level with one time hard coding to ensure that hacking is not possible. Any attempt to tamper evm makes that evm bricked (ie useless).

1.Here also it happens in schools(voting i meant) 2. EVM are not connected to any wire they work on self attached battery pack so no chance hacking 3. The ink is an alcohol based semi permanent ink that last for atleast 3to4 days makes it easy if one try to double cast on top of that your unique card number is also checked before allowing you to vote so even if you manage to clean the ink you are still gonna get cought

The paint/ink is actually put on the index finger of the voter once he/she casts his/her vote as a rough or first line method to distinguish someone who has voted from the ones who haven't. The ink is almost impossible to remove in just 1 day (I voted almost a week ago and despite washing my hands multiple times it is still there on my finger lol) and of course isn't the only way to determine if the person has voted. They also place a strike on your name in their list once u've voted to double confirm it.

The Mark on index finger is to confirm the person has voted. That mark will stay for 72 hours and won’t go away. This is secondary confirmation to prevent any person voting multiple times. There are various checks and balances as soon as one enters the booth to vote. Very elaborate exercise though.

12:30 In India - ID card system is lagging in India. Each government department issuing their own ID (ex: Income Tax, Public Distribution System, Elections, Driving License and few more). Government started to integrate/eliminate and create one ID system (AADHAR). It will be another 20 to 50 years before it's completely achieved. Just size & scale and legacy usage takes time to change. Passport might remain separate as Indian system (and few other countries) view it is not a fundamental right & can be restricted.

That's the indelible ink to mark those who have already casted their votes. And here also schools and colleges are mostly used as polling booths where people need to present their voter identity cards to a polling officer who then verifies it with a local committee and then verified voters cast their votes using the EVM after signing against their names on the list of voters. The Bollywood movie Newton aptly depicted how voting is conducted in remote and politically volatile forest areas in India. This entire process is indeed fascinating..!

In India with uninterrupted 70+ years of democracy means simply that electoral process is ingrained in high majority of Indian citizens. Forget the noise the electoral process have been fair ever since EVMs have been introduced. Ruling parties have lost at both state and national level and smooth transition of power is a given. Our much maligned bureaucracy pulls off Lok Sabha elections of this mega scale fairly and securely and needs to be applauded and respected.

Exactly same as slovak in schools mostly, instead of one ID we have 3 ways aadhar, voterslip or voter ID should match with the voter list prepared by the government, any one of 3 can be used to cast your vote and get partially permanent ink lasts for a week or two on index finger to avoid rigging. EVM is easier simple button press against your desired party symbol (ex: BJP Modis lotus symbol)and this will print a slip of vote and stored in EVM itself which can used to count no of votes manually if Election commission finds discrepancy in that booth or a single press of button will give no of votes casted in that booth without counting saves a lot of time and we have multiple parties even I can open a party and contest for elections thats why a lot of symbols and buttons. Yet west thinks democracy declining in India😂😂😂
