Hey!.. The term minority in social science is slightly different from literary and mathematical definitions. Simply put, it depends on the social status of a group of people in the society. Dalits (which include various castes and clans) make up 25% of the population and Brahmins are 5%. Still Dalits are classified as minorities because most of the wealth and power resides in upper castes. I'm not saying that we should focus on who oppressed whom; every country has a past with such forms of social interactions and system of governance. If trickles down to the present. It's better for the society if our neighbours prosper, be it the next door Muslim or Hindu, or countries across the world. I wish the interactions between countries and people are democratic rather than for just limited political and egoistic benefits. I hope you'll add more on minorities in your reading. Cheers!

Because It's not possible. Our leaders of past made this country equal for all without any official religion is to Unite the country in one identity. Any such step would threaten to India's unity. It's not just possible any way. India's punjab is Sikh Majority, kashmir and Lakshadweep is muslim majority, ladakh and Aravali are buddhist Majority and North East India is christian Majority.
