PERSONAL NOTES: 03:19 - How do we understand what Mary is doing for us, and how should this reflect in the language of our prayers? E.g. do we ask Mary directly for graces on the interpretation that God has given her authority to dispense these graces (& if so, how can we be confident this is accurate/appropriate), or do we ask Mary just to pray on our behalf for God to give us those graces? I guess the same question can apply to other saints too, like St. Anthony when we’re searching for lost things. Whether or not we ‘need’ to add extra words to make clear that we’re just asking them to pray for us, should we be mentally holding that concept? Or are there ways in which any saints (particularly Mary) can be known to actually dispense graces so we can just ask that saint for that grace directly without adding qualifiers about how what we’re requesting is for them to pray to God about this? 06:24 - Is bruschetta a valid appetizer? 10:24 - The possible prophet who predicted Trump being shot in the ear 4 months ago. Is this for real? 14:04 - How would you rebut the belief that the early church fell into idolatry immediately, e.g the Eucharist, and is heretical, and because Israel fell into idolatry immediately in the desert there’s a biblical pattern/ example for this 16:05 - I wish to have a more convincing answer for this question ¿What prevents us from believing that Catholicism is but a development of Christianity as understood by St. Paul, thus lacking validation since he was not a direct witness of Christ’s teachings? So far my faith-based answer is that 1) the 12 disciples were around and they would stop Paul if he was teaching false doctrine; 2) Peter acknowledges Paul’s wisdom even if he’s “hard to understand” (2 Pt 3,15-16); and 3) Jesus allowed the development of doctrine guided by the promised Holy Spirit. However, these reasons may not be enough for a non-believer: 1) the 12 might not be always auditing all of Paul’s letters; 2) being hard to understand in fact includes the risk of passing as true something that is not; and 3) teachings that do not contradict those of the Founder do not mean that were meant by the Founder. Thank you Jimmy. I like your apostolate a lot. Greetings from Panama. God bless you. 22:17 - I’m sure you’ve heard this one before, but I don’t know a good answer. If we assume (hopefully) that someone with invincible ignorance of the faith may receive God’s mercy and avoid Hell, is it possible we’re sending people to Hell by trying to evangelize them, knowing that they may in fact reject our attempt? Or, even worse, we are bad witnesses and we actually push them away from the faith? (The example I have heard applied to an Eskimo, but it could apply to anyone who is far removed from any church or believers.) Thanks again Jimmy. Peace be with you. 29:31 - I would love to know where the Tradition of the Assumption comes from. I was just baptized this last Easter, and though I am familiar with the teaching itself, I’m very fuzzy on why Christians believe this. If there is a scriptural basis we can turn to as well, I’d love to know it! Thanks for everything you do, Jimmy! 34:36 - To what degree should we take saints’ teachings and beliefs as Catholic doctrine? Both for topics involving our faith & for non-religious ones (e.g. thoughts on raising children). Thank you! 37:43 - Thanks Jimmy. I know this is a basic tenet of the faith, so I know I’m missing something: How did Jesus ‘save’ us? If he had not been incarnate, how would our lives be different? Or, say he was scheduled to arrive 100 years from now, instead of 2000 years ago? Would we not be able to be ‘saved’? 49:10 - Many religions and religious sects arise from a type of prophet or chosen one who begins to claim that the religion he is part of has false teachings and that he had a revelation from God about the truth and thus founds a new religion or sect, e.g. Muhammad, Alan Kardec, Joseph Smith, Buddha, and all these thousands of Protestants, etc. Abraham and Moses have claimed to have been chosen. How do we know that Jesus and the apostles were telling the truth and that they weren’t just another one, who called himself a prophet because they weren’t satisfied with the Jews? How do we know if Jesus wasn’t a kind of Luther of the Jews? That Christianity is actually not just a fight between Jews?

I've read a ton of books, too. Two at a time, occasionally. People will ask me, "How do you KNOW that?" I just say, I read stuff. It's my default activity. How can you sit at the breakfast table and not peruse the cereal boxes?

Another way to understand saint's intercession is to remember that being a saint is doing God's will, always. Asking to God directly is being conscious that we all have a personal relationship to God, that in Christ we have part to his condition of Son of God. But asking through a saint's intercession is being conscious of the communion of the saints, and that it pleases God that we live this communion. Both are different perspectives on the same salvation.

Wait does 2:20 also count towards deutercomical videos or satire videos done in good faith?

I'm sure he doesn't mean fair use satire, but my mind went to Deuterocomical too!

Help. 2Tim 3:16 Paul and others tell me this and I agree. However aren’t we sort of begging the question when we use any txt after the gospels and old testament as “ scripture? Because at the time of Paul’s writing and the rest they did not consider their own letters scripture we did that after the fact. 2Tim. 3 Verses 16 to 17 [16] All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Can't sue fair use satire like Deuterocomical. But I doubt you had him in mind, though he was at the CA Conference, I believe. Besides, his stuff is fairly good.

I think it also needs to be said that the supposed argument against evangelization assumes that people who have never heard the gospel automatically go to heaven. Ehen in fact one can be both invincibly ignorant and also damned. The matter of how well they followed their conscience and lived in charity is present for everyone.

God is sovereign, God is just. No one will enter hell that God does not judge deserving. No one’s salvation or the lack thereof is dependent on anyone but Jesus Christ. This is the simplicity for those who are called by God. “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” Romans 10:17 NASB2020 We are called to spread the gospel (good news) and while we can be a stumbling block for some, this is not the same as causing someone to lose their salvation. The consequence of being a stumbling block will be on the one who causes someone to stumble, not on the one who stumbles.

From a strong supporter, please get rid of the silly thumbnails. They simply don’t go with the topics or fit your style. Good to not take yourself too seriously, but this fad to have silly thumbnails to get clicks is fortunately dying out as everyone jumps on this bandwagon of thinking folks are more likely to click on a thumbnail where the person is making a weird face God bless and thanks for the great content

What books have you read on hermeneutics Jimmy?
@alanhales6369Ай бұрын
Jimmy Akin, your problem is, you read the wrong books. You really need to read books that proves the Catholic Church is an erroneous religion, and the true history of the Catholic Church. You know very well that you deceive people, because you won't give me the scriptures that you use for purgatory, because you know very well that I will prove you are twisting the scriptures.

Bad theology! Again, every time I listen to Jimmy, I have to sift through all the various answers he gives and make a decision to believe what he says vs other solid church theologians. An honest 20% of the stuff I hear I dismiss. One very clear answer he didn’t give was is it okay to come to Mass late. Everyone and their grandma knows the answer but Jimmys answer is ambiguous and that same week 1/4 of those attending Mass in my church showed up later than normal. Coincidence? 🤦🏻♂️
