@@havingteawiththedevil My advice is for you to stay with parents /home as long as you can while you save. Tell your family you want to save money for a house down payment. I think your family would support you. I had a client whose brother came to the US from Asia. He worked as an orderly in those old homes and in three years saved enough money to put a down payment for a home. He lived with his brother paying a small rent. Then another brother came and went to work at first at a restaurant then then as an orderly. he also stayed with his brother for 2-3 months but he saved a little money and bought an old fan. he then lived in that van while working 60-80 hours a week. He saved $46,000 in a year.

I have been doing a savings plan, where I save 100 notes of every money denomination. So 100 notes of the ones, 100 notes of the fives and so on. By the time you collect 100 of every denomination you'll wind up with $18,600. I just started and all I have so far is 100 notes of the ones, and 100 notes of the Fives and started on the tens. Then once I accumulated 100 notes of a particular denomination, I'll put a money label around it. Can't wait to save. It's addictive.

I did something similar to this. I wrote down the number of weeks in a year. I was waitressing at the time. Depending on what I made, I'd check off what I put aside. Did this for about 6 months. I was able to save enough to pay for a new used car, title, tags, new tires, gave it a tune up, tented windows and still had a few thousands $$ left. I did have to displine myself as like to spend money 😉😉 I managed it. It was easier since I was waitress. If I made 100 $ if I didn't need gas or cigarettes I'd put in most of it and kept at least 20 $. Did this twice and second time bought a truck. Then I stopped.

So we started using YNAB for budgeting about 6 months ago and run everything online (cant even explain how amazing that is working - our bank account went from getting overdrawn every couple months to now sits at 5 figures consistently and we have paid off significant consumer debt). I actually just set up the 100 envelope challenge in YNAB and we pick two numbers randomly every time we get paid - so it will take a little longer but I also add in numbers when there is a windfall. I just don't deal with cash so physically doing cash and envelopes meant I just didn't do it. I want to do this again next year and hopefully we can do more numbers each paycheck, so do it faster, since we will have more debt paid off or even do the 200 envelope challenge. The plan is the funds will go to our emergency fund. Great advice.

We do something similar in my culture too but it’s called “tanda” and it is better because you can get an advance. You come up with an amount to give to the ‘holder’ each payday, for how long, and then recruit as many people as possible to participate. People draw a number which determines the order of each person getting the “pot” each paycheck.

I am going to do the challenge but my budget wont allow me to do it in 100 days so I am going after it as fast as I can. The money will be a down payment on a new to me car after my student loans are paid off (I am due for TEPSLF in November 2022). I intend to do it yearly for a different goal each year, after I get my car the goal will be to go to Sturgis :)

I'm only 6 mins in and idk if anyone mentioned it yet. But what if you went backwards?? I may be missing something. But what if you started at 100. And work your way to the easy days? I love Bryson's idea still but I was just wondering if anyone would find that maybe easier for them if they are impatient. IM DEFINITELY GONNA TRY IT BUYING THE EXPENSIVE DAYS LIKE BRY MENTIONED.

I have done this challenge twice and sure you can do it in reverse OR like I do if I have $200 I will fill about 5 -7 envelopes totaling $200...there is no wrong way to save; do it however makes sense and work for you. I will be doing the challenge all through 2022

I'm gonna pay off debt. Then I'm gonna help my daughter get a leg up on her debt. It's gonna be a long three months. I go for my visit in May and it'll be nice to help her for mother's day. And Audessa if you're reading this, I love you🥰

Just make sure that she wants to be out of debt first and knows how to stay out of debt first, or it’ll be like fixing a leak with paper tape

Great inspirational video towards learning how to save. I finally started saving myself, probably because some grandkids came along and I got scurred. I use separate envelopes and save a piece of my paycheck each week and then put that cash into each envelope. I started liking the idea of having a pile of cash building up. My current stage of the plan is paying off debt on my credit report and building my credit score back up. Once you realize you don't need banks and you can manage your own cash. Feels like 🔥

Definitely think doing this couldn't really hurt anything right? Last year I started randomly saving every $1 and $5 bill I came across and stuffed them in an envelope. I have no idea how much is even in there now but it's a lot since I had to add more envelopes and stick them all in a box. This is on top of the auto deduction to both of our savings accounts.
