My M240i with the B58 is the first car I’ve owned where I haven’t immediately thought that some more power would be good. It’s so easy and cheap to get more power from it but it already feels like such a balanced car already, I don’t want to mess with that. Besides, it can already struggle to get the power down sometimes with it being RWD. Adding another 100bhp would probably just be beneficial when doing high speed motorway pulls. Did anyone else feel the same way but still tuned it? Thoughts?

I also have 8 built-in parts, the meaning of which, to be honest, is not entirely clear to me. Since the BMW is a left-hand drive vehicle in Germany, I have to imagine things being adjusted by 180 degrees. Unfortunately I have different colors and at two points completely different plugs. Could it be because I caught the last upgrade of the model, namely LC II? The engine has noticeably more power and is more economical. A friend of mine works on a test bench of the TÜV. (In Germany, an official place that you have to visit every two years, because they check the chassis, tires, illegal tuning, etc.). It gives me the opportunity to check the performance of my cars for free. After 5000 km, i.e. after the car had run in) I measured the performance on 3 days with different outside temperatures. Measurement 1: about 5 degrees, cloudy, light rain: 374 hp at 6200 rpm, 604 Nm - are 34 hp more top speed 275 km / h Measurement 2; 18 degrees, slightly cloudy, dry: 372 HP at 6100 rpm, 589 Nm - 32 HP more are Top Speed 275 km / h Measurement 3; Over 27 degrees, dry, sun shines: 366 HP at 6300 rpm, 550 Nm - 26 HP more are Top Speed 275 km / h The test results are there. Measured three times because the engine as a turbo strongly depends on the outside temperature. The cooler the air, the more oxygen. Especially the sultry summer weather of 27 degrees costs performance. In Germany, a car is considered standard when it has up to 10% more or 10% less power. Means that all values are completely in line, measurement 1 was at the limit, because 340PS + 34PS (10%) then result in 374 PS. V-Max only regulated at 275 km / h instead of 250 km / h, which I measured several times using GPS. The speedometer then goes to 1, i.e. to the point where the tank is full. The tires are the runflats from the factory. They were on my 125i too, but the vehicle drove like wooden wheels. Still wanted to change, but my hander called that the m140i will no longer receive a four-cylinder as a straight six-cylinder and with front-wheel drive. I didn't want that. In passing: BMW is a ripped off company. They bought up Rover, RR and Mini!? Rover was simply pushed away, the Mini sold easily, especially to young women. Limited edition as a two-seater with the B 58 engine. Unfortunately only 400 copies. Because the 340 PS are opposed to about 800 kg, what should I do with my other plugs or better said pin assignments? All friends who drive the m140i or m240i have the appearance of those shown in the video. My guess is that only the LC II in connection with the last major software update have this arrangement. My workshop didn't see that in the form either ....... thanks in advance, and everyone stays healthy!

If car talk interest you then stick around and do some homework and always get a pre purchase inspection. Follow the trends don't be the trend setter. To me, the N55 M engine edition was the most practical street BMW engine of all time. I say street, because I don't need much more than 600hp. The N55 M engine is way more practical. BMW shot themselves in the foot by making the B58's cooling system way more complex than needs to be. ESS has the best version of a simple, effective and efficient air to water intercooler. Aside from adopting ESS intercooler system, the only upgrade the N55 M engine could use is a semi open deck design and an ESS/Lysholm type supercharger. Approximately 4 minutes into this video, you can some shops removed BMW"s counterintuitive cooling system to a more coherent solution. Moving the timing chain to the rear on the B58 looks impractical, too. As you can see, the N55's engine looks much more compact and easier to work around. The B58 would have to be customized to to the 555's logical, sensible and practical approach to be worthy replacement for be a worthy replacement. The N55's high quality aftermarket water pumps are good for an excess of 100,000 miles. It would be good to focus a video of more about...shops that removed and replaced BMW's cooling system with a better solution. Also, notice that the most reliable BMW engines of all recent time went up by threes: N52 N55 B58
@SimplyCarThings3 жыл бұрын
I understand where you're coming from but most B58's have already proven to be much stronger and more reliable than the N55. Just look at the manner in which Toyota adopted this powerplant for the Supra. The cooling system is fantastic and has proven to be quite robust on track and with higher mileage cars. Closed deck, and extreme efficiency
@n.prince24583 жыл бұрын
@@SimplyCarThings Toyota adopted the B58 ...with their own implemented customizations. They started with the B58B3001 (the best B58) and highly likely integrated the most sensible features of the N55. If I had to replace a N55 M engine, I would highly consider the B58B3001, but can't help it the N55 engine looks amazing. The design is awesome, plus it sounds amazing, too! The N55 is an inline 6 engine that features a pivoted layout ... looking almost like a V engine. Plus, the N55 can accept the N52 exhaust cams for more power. Sounds like an interesting topic. :) Since Toyota has adopted the B58, it is unquestionably king. Future aintenance seems like much costly proposition compared to the simplicity of the N55. Finding shops that can customize the B58 to port injection and other cylinder head customizations would definitely work for me. Not that would get port injection for the street, however, it will be good to list shops that customized B58 heads, components, etc.

I'm amazed that so many automotive journalists/bloggers apparently miss or gloss over this North American market specific detail. Fact is, that the 382HP US variant of the B58 block deviates quite a bit from the lower HP Toyota/BMW version in a number of significant engine parts, i.e to only point out the different cylinder head (of the 382HP version) with a full external exhaust manifold (versus the often quoted B58 cylinder head with integrated exhaust manifold) and the larger turbo, as well as different pistons and connecting rods. Easy to see on realoem.com, when you compare any BMW model with a 340HP B58 engine (e.g. a Euro Z4 M40i) to a BMW with a 382HP engine (e.g. a US Z4 M40i). Still, enjoyed the video - good work!

@carboydorifutoparty39764 жыл бұрын
@@juijgentan1281 well it'd practically save u the trouble from making the car break down. Theres already a decent bunch of S55s pulling 600-1000whp out there. The only con for the S55 is that it's just expensive.

The n54 already did 600hp on 100% stock block and head like 12 years ago (more than a 2JZ can claim), but the hype is real people are only learning about the potential of BMW engines now that they've put it in a Supra.

Dude great video - flowed very well - very concisely written. I’ve done an e36 n54 swap and am currently working n54 e30 on my YT channel. But I’ve heard great things about b58 and your channel video came up as suggested on my feed. Now a b58 will be my next swap!! Thanks for the inspiration. Check me out!!

Two things that made Supra a legend: the 2JZ engine and the cock pit. Toyota managed to lose both.
@billamota5 жыл бұрын
It obviously worked for Toyota, using BMW parts saves alot of money and has gotten everyones attention cause it's a "supra"

Sales of 2 door 2 seater enthusiast cars are falling. It would be financially unwise or even a suicidal to build the all new Supra from scratch on it's own, meaning fanboys will never see a Supra again.

no, sorry you cant replace the 2jz with a german motor in the supra. Japanese engineering over german always. A german motor is blasphemy in a supra. This is no real supra!

Lone Wolf I agree with u on that it’s not a real Supra but the retired 2jz Toyota doesn’t or didn’t have future plans to put a actual Supra motor in there Supra that’s something we have to live with
