5:30 "tough terrains"-!? Terrain already denotes "of topography," it doesn't need to be foolishly conjugated into the hyper explicit an needless noise of "terrains," that just makes you sound like a stupid mouth-breathing savage who "needs" to affix the suffix "s" to everything, just so you can balance your respiration via sharp exhale which accompanies every redundant use of that suffix.

one thing you've slightly overlooked in the specific case of video is the concept of content delivery networks. A company like Google will have multiple "pop's" (points of presence) around the world and these can actually be embedded within your ISP's network to reduce the latency effect. What these pops do is store a Cache or a local copy of the master file which would originally stored in a big data centre. So instead of the data having to travel thousands of miles to reach you it should only travel a few hundred or less depending on your location.

This was... greatly simplified. The information was mostly accurate, but it glossed over huge, huge areas of detail. Like, this is how a car works: First, in the Cambrian period, plants grow via sunlight and photosynthesis. Those plants grow very large due to a high CO2 concentration in the atmosphere, but they eventually die and get buried. Over time, they are convert into oil, which is processed into fuel which powers the car. The fuel is converted into exhaust by the engine which flows through the catalytic converter and comes out of the tailpipe. And that's how a car works!

@XSpImmaLion5 жыл бұрын
Just to let people know, this is a very good surface level explanation of how it works, but of course things are waaaaaay more complex than that. For instance, one thing that was reinforced multiple times through the video is the path between a data center and you, using watching a KZbin video as example. But actually, services like KZbin that are incredibly huge actually has multiple datacenters distributed around the globe, and you are more likely not getting the data directly from those, but rather from midway points, potentially servers from other companies among other possibilities. It's a rather complex thing. For huge services like KZbin, the volume of data is so large and the need for speedy streaming is so big that there are series of algorithms and automated systems that will distribute data in a way to optimize for those things. KZbin also doesn't use only KZbin or Google servers... they can use Amazon ones, or ones from other companies. To get down to the latency and speed demands though, services also have local midway points storing the most acessed content to deliver it faster to costumers.

I work at one of those tech companies. I always thought that there was some magical device that “broadcast” internet. I knew about fiber and and how cellular works but this was 100% eye opening. What a brilliant explanation! I always thought of it as way more complicated. It’s a little bit of a letdown. Even though I knew of data centers I never thought of it as just accessing a big computer where info is stored. I even knew data was stored there I just never thought of them being where EVERYTHING is stored. Thank you for this wonderful video

Optical Fiber cable does not go from the seabed to your router. First of it has numerous routing points before that, but primarily a home router almost never have an optical port. It either goes to a DSLAM, (an cobber line sentral if you will, in the case you have DSL line into your home) or if you have a fiber to your home, it will usually go to a modem first, then your home router.
@ostapkurtash63595 жыл бұрын
And before that it goes through the ISP so the ISP can control your bandwidth.

Quick correction at 3:03, it implies that your ISP assigns an IP address for every internet-connected device in your network. For most residential connections, this is not true. Your router assigns each device an IP address that can be ONLY be used inside of your local network called a private IP address. This is done using a process called subnetting. A Private IP usually starts with 10.x.x.x or 192.168.x.x. That way, the ISP only needs to assign 1 IP address to your router (called a public IP), and the router will forward all data to their respective devices using a process called Network Address Translation (NAT). Similarly, when you want to send data from a device, the router will forward the request to the internet on behalf of your device.

The Non Smoker that’s because it’s a local IP address meaning it’s only on your network and doesn’t exist on the web as it is limited to your router and devices
