How does the Maserati Ghibli justify a RM600k price tag? | EvoMalaysia.com

The Ghibli is Maserati’s entry in the 5 Series / E-Class segment, but at RM600k, it is about double the price of the BMW and Mercedes-Benz models, at least the ones you typically buy.
Unlike the 2.0-litre turbo engines of the Germans, the Ghibli is propelled by a 3.0-litre V6 with about 325hp on tap, putting it on performance par with the BMW 540i or the Mercedes-Benz E 400, both of which are available in our market on special order basis and will cost you in the region of RM600k as well if you order one through official channels.
Compared to the Germans, the Ghibli is cracking to drive; engine is more eager, and handling more agile, but it is hampered by less than sterling build quality and a ride that some may consider too firm for daily use.
However, for RM600k here, you really are getting a car with the presence that justifies its price tag. There is no confusing your ride for something in the RM300k - RM400k price range.

Actuslly had the chance to drive thid baby. The suspension I think was pretty comfortable for day to day driving but the turbo lag is pretty bad.

E Segment sedan with 3.0L Ferrari Engine for RM600k is fair enough. I cannot imagine the price if D Segment Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio sold in Malaysia.

I personally looked at the pre facelift one, to replace a 5 series. It is a good car to drive, yes, but the interior bits from a 20k US Dodge, is unacceptable. Interior finish is still not up to scratch to even a Jag, and that’s bad...

Maserati tells me they made running improvements to the quality. The switchgear on this car definitely betters the Jaguar E-Type, but still a step down from BMW, the Volkswagen Group, or even Mazda for that matter.

Im still driving the 2014 Ghibli and its still a daily pleasure. I even miss it very much when I go for vacations. Thats how much I enjoy driving it. Its been trouble free although yes servicing is expensive. Im never going back to german "quality" after having a very bad experience with BMW. I think Ghibli interior is actually very sexy. I feel naughty in it. After this experience, Id only consider another Italian or perhaps a British car for my next one. BMW Merc Audi are just too common now. Nothing special about them.

Its built for high speed cruising. Handles great even at 250kmh. Ive not maxed it out yet though.

@@jdfd4906 Comparing similar GT car, with similar power figures, I think the Kia is better made and has better value than the Ghibli. The M5 is a supersaloon in supercar territory, no contest against the Stinger or Ghibli 😁

metallutca yes, specs wise yes. But maserati brings out the emotions aka atasness which makes the price diff acceptable to some. Maserati is bought with emotions imo. But honestly, it’s quite vfm considering 540i and E53 price is not far off.

@@jdfd4906 Agree. Emotion is subjective, tough to quantify. You have to drive to experience it. I have driven a Stinger GT-Line (2.0) and it really surprised me, a very capable performer, dynamically up there with the Germans. But I haven't driven any Maseratis, so cannot give an absolute "feel" comparison. But from exhaust note alone, Maserati wins. But for owning and maintaining as a daily driver, personally I would go with the Stinger. My pocket is not thick enough
