A follow-up to my previous video, comparing the Dagger Rewind to the original Pyranha Ripper. #whitewater #kayaking #paddling

Love the fact you're becoming the British Wade Harrison with the boat comparisons ;) (they're great! I really enjoy them)

Haha, I couldn't ever hope to be compared to Wade! The man's a legend in his own lunchtime.

Great follow up comparison Matt and really enjoy your videos. Paddling in Scotland as a 40+yr old who only started a couple of years ago bdacurmy daughter took up slalom. Started in a Katana, then RPM Max (at 110kg), entered slalom races, got a slalom boat and down to 98kg so the next boat for then river needed found. Tried a Ripper 2 L, super twitchy (as in a mind of its own even compared to my slalom boat. Tried a Steeze, like piloting a Croc sandal (comfy and slow), then tried a Rewind L and it was predictable but slicey and goes where it is told...so went for that. Preferred the lower knee position compared to the Ripped and Steeze as well. Your earlier video was certainly a help in thinking of what to try. Keep up the good work and enjoyment.

Love the medium Rewind 👌🏻

It's a cracking boat! I can see why so many people seem to be fans of it.

Great review, thanks. Also, in between boats and demoing. I'm not sure if you've compared Rewind with Ripper 2? Or even the new Indra, but I'm sure it's not comparable as it's a totally different boat
@MatthewBrookKayaking3 ай бұрын
My pleasure. Glad to be of help. I'm afraid I've not spent much time in a Ripper 2, certainly not on comparable water, and no time at all in the Indra. But, as you say, I think the Indra sits in a completely different category.

Nice comparison! I'm currently looking to replace my Curve 2.5 (first boat) with something more modern with the ability to play but still run max WW IV aswell. At around 70kg, the Ripper 2 M and Rewind M caught my attention. Would be interested in your opinion on that! Generally speaking, I think these two boats (especially the Ripper 2, since it's newer) are quite appealing to many people.
@MatthewBrookKayaking7 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Certainly, the Ripper 2 has proved a popular design, so I'd say it's well worth your trying one, as with the Rewind.

I'd like to see some paddle comparisons too. There aren't many good kayak paddle reviews.

I'll see what I can do. Lots of interesting new stuff coming out with Werner's new ones, so I'll see if I can get hold of them.

Hi Matt, what sized ripper 1 do you paddle and what is your height and weight. Looking at ripper 1 and rewind for my next boat.
@MatthewBrookKayaking7 ай бұрын
Hi Charles. I paddle a small Ripper, standing at about 5:8 and 64kg dripping wet! Hope that helps.

You did it then 👍👍. I knew as a medium rewind paddler you would see a noticeable difference 👍

Well, you said I should try, so when Joe offered I jumped at it! Thanks for the suggestion.

Hey Matt, great vid. I’m just under 70kg and looking at getting myself a rewind (mainly to use as a river runner rather than a playboat). What size would you lean towards?
@MatthewBrookKayaking7 ай бұрын
Hi there. Thanks for the comment. That would put you a few kilos heavier than me, so I'd probably suggest the medium, especially if you're wanting a river-running boat as opposed to something playful. But the best thing to do is try them out and see. Hope that helps.

I’m 72.5kg, 5ft 8 and paddle a Medium if it helps.

I weight a little bit less and am not sure between the Ripper 2 M and the Rewind M. Can you get it vertical?
@stuartreedsadventures7 ай бұрын
@@thomashirsch8349 I can’t get mine vertical on the flat but my technique is rubbish. I have managed vertical on a good Eddie line. Ripper 2 goes up easier

i just bought a medium rewind, im just getting confident on class 3's but the goal is to send my local class 4 at the end of the year. Would you say the medium is close enough to a proper creeker that I would be fine on bigger water? I haven't owned many other boats so just not sure how grabby the tail is compared to others. Cheers!
@MatthewBrookKayaking6 ай бұрын
That's great. Well done for giving yourself a goal. With care and practice, I'd say the Rewind can be a decent boat in bigger water. But to be clear, the one and only thing that will get you to that goal is consistent practice and having grace for yourself when mistakes/scares happen. No matter the boat, it will only be as good/capable as the person in it! Keep on practicing - make grade 4 moves in a grade 3 environment, paste rocks, make tiny Eddie's, do attainments, mess around with freestyle/tricks. That's how to progress, no matter what grade or boat.

Have you had any experience in the Firecracker? I'm interested to hear people's opinions on the differences between that and the Rewind, especially the small sizes.
@MatthewBrookKayaking7 ай бұрын
I've not used one, I'm afraid. Just from the specs, I reckon the small would be the only fair comparison, as otherwise the Firecracker is a completely different style of boat length-wise. I'd be happy to try one out when I get the opportunity.

In my search for my perfect half slice I went from a Med Rewind to Ripper then a Ripper 2L and half finally settled on Firecracker 252, absolutely love it. Not as fast as the other boats but it feels so much more predictable than them.
@MatthewBrookKayaking7 ай бұрын
That's interesting. Does the Firecracker seem capable enough to handle the same sorts of creeks you might tackle in the others?
