I love everything about my R2L. The R1 felt like a large Ozone to me. I'd take the R2L anywhere, and the beauty is the similarity between it and the Scorch that you mentioned makes switching between the two seamless except the stern of the Scorch then makes it feel like a freight-train...in a good way ;-). Great comparison!

We just measured our demo and the highest point is near enough 14"

I tried the 242 - no 252 available. It's shorter and I think the planing hull is little narrower, so less stable. I have it on good authority from someone who runs the R2L and has demoed the 252 that it is also less stable by virtue of its length.
