This is HOW not WHO. Do different brokerages have different stock prices for the same stock? Is there an algorithm that decides this? Who creates/regulates this algorithm?

0:51 is where you're losing me. Where does all of this asking and bidding actually take place? Is there some secret club of traders that meet? I'm an investor and bidding and asking ain't offered at any brokerage I've ever seen. All I see is market buy limit buy limit sell stop loss and then a bunch of options. Is that what you mean when you say bidding? Or is it the secret club of traders that places the bids? Please clarify.
@ukspreadbetting5 жыл бұрын
The asking and bidding takes place on an electronic exchange like the London Stock Exchange. People submit their orders on an electronic platform and they appear on an electronic terminal with best bid and ask prices. All market participants can see the bid and ask prices available on any stock at any one time on an interface referred to as Level 2. Check this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKTRXn-EbryZj9U

Great explanation! Just one thing I'd like to clarify. The one who says I'll buy it at $101 is executing a market order yea? And in essence if everyone decided one day to only make limit orders, the price would never move? The only way the price ever moves is through market orders right?

Not all orders are limit orders - bid and ask. What happens when buy and sell happen with market orders? How the current price is calculated?

Awesome explanation. All these other videos talking about trends and stuff, I just wanted an answer to who or what algorithm sets the price. I thought maybe once there was a lot of selling, the price moved down because some exchange lowered the value every x trades or so hehe. I thought wrong.

AAPL is at $130. I bid for $1. Someone sells one stock to me for $1. AAPL would drop to $1?
@pratikpednekar5363 Жыл бұрын
the best explanation but still did not get how stock moves down under pressure with a big sell order. Could be this - I want to sell at current market price of 50$,I have a volume of 1000 shares and I place the SELL order for 1000 shares. There is 1 buyer at present who wants to buy at market price of 50$ but quantity of 100 shares only, so he gets that at 50$. Now the next buyer has a limit of 45$ and wants 900 shares. Will he get my shares at 45$? And I will book a 5$ loss? If this is the case then I got it. In reality there are many buyers so I might end up selling all at average of may be 49.5$.

How is it that with 4 to 5 as many buys as sells on AMC the price still goes down?

if a person own 1,000 stock purchase at price $1, he set 1 stock to sold at $50 and he is the one that buy the stock at $50, he doesn't lose much but he had make the price of the stock jump up to $50 and then he can sold 1,000 of his stock at $49. Are this possible to happen?

Let's suppose now that a person places a buy order of $103. Then which seller will sell to this buyer, will that would be seller with $101, $102 or $103 sell order?

If the stock current price is $100 if someone want to make the price to go down to $1, he set the price $1 to sold his stock (assume he doesn't care of losing money, he did it for other person to lose more money) so, there buyer take it with $1, are the price suddenly jump down to $1?

how to determine the price of a share from any company you want to buy shares from?
@ukspreadbetting5 жыл бұрын
What do you mean by determine? Evaluate whether a share is good value or not? This is for you to decide - some use fundamentals like Price/Earnings Ratios and examining a company's financial statements...etc and others use technical analysis and charting (i.e. price action).

What about people who just want to buy long term and buy at market? How is that factored into the bid/ask? Also why is a company like Pfizer priced around 38 a share and Chipotle over 800? Why the discrepancy?
@davidjames16844 жыл бұрын
That doesn't explain why good news (such as a vaccine is being distributed), sometimes makes a stock go down. Also, what if in your scenario, someone was feeling generous, and decided to beat all those other sellers by 50%, and listed 1 share for sale at $50? How would someone buy that share? If the highest bid was $75, would that person get it? Lastly, if the buyer and seller always agree on a price to make a transaction, how does the "market maker" ever make any money? For example, if you sell a stock for $100 and I buy it for $100, where is the profit for the market maker, or do they get commissions some other way?

Now suppose let’s take an example of a big whose one stock’s price is say around $1000 right now and it’s continuously changing. And there are two people one of whom is willing to sell at $1001 and other is willing to buy at $1001 AND there are two more people one of whom is willing to sell at $50 and other willing to buy at $50, then why do the system prefer the $1001 transaction over $50 transaction?
