Tommy Searle talks about his one of a kind 1996 Honda CR250 2-Stroke that has been completely restored by the man himself doc wob!
//
Tommy Searle is a true legend of the game. He's the third most winning rider in UK MXGP history and has finished second in the World Championship twice, won multiple British Championships and did a stint in the US for factory KTM. We both moved to the US around the same time but haven't had a chance to catch up in person since, so this was a really great chat! Tommy is deep in the KZbin game now with mates Billy Bolt and Ed Warren and his KZbin Channel and Podcast are well worth a sub!

95 & 96 CR250’s were hands down the absolute best 2 strokes Honda ever made! I had an 01 (same motor) had great power but the handling was awful with the aluminum frame no matter how much suspension work was done..

love my 96 so much I put newer 47mm Showa twin Chamber forks on it re-valved by Pro-action, 15 YZ250 rear shock with Ti spring , 2001 CR250R top end ported and head work done by PC, YZ Ti pegs , fatty pipe, bills silencer shortened 2.75”, . This bike Makes my 05 CR250R feel like a moped. Love it!

Agree fella's. The first ever bike I road and owned was 93 cr250 which I bought because of seeing McGrath kicking ass. Me and mates went to buy but couldn't test ride as we didn't know how to ride. 1st ride I got about 500m or so from my house into bush going slowly and it stopped. Didn't know why, I tried bump starting but didn't work so I hid it on it's side near bushes and ran home and got camo tarp and ran back almost in dark and covered it. I didn't want my dad knowing I bought it as he said not to buy bike. Next morning ran back pulled tarp off and saw fuel tap. It was off, I clearly new nothing, turned on and fired first kick. Next few hours road it in wrong and bogging gears down heaps. Thought it was like old farm style 4stroke and thought I was doing good. Felt fast as. Then went from 5th back to 2nd and 2stroke lit up, sideways then flipping me off back so quick. Went home and showed dad and gave him a go(he had open bike licence) He took off and returned with massive smile on face, 2nd time tankslap crashed. I couldn't believe power then got used of it riding 6hrs a day and it was awesome. Wish I still had it. Still on 2bangas at 44. Avagud1

Remember Jean Sabastien Roy running late CR 250's in the Canadian mx championships and doing very well! the power on the CR was like like a light switch with 03/04 250's all or nothing! was a blast!! always a Honda guy growing up, then I rode my mates 06 YZ 250, was so easy to ride in comparison

If you can ride a two-stroke you'll be the four-stroke every time it's just harder to ride a two-stroke you got to be good.

A few years ago that was true, but not anymore, modern 4 strokes are just too powerful, to the point most 250 2 strokes are equal with 250 4 strokes (except the ktm 250 has more) case and point i rode an 07 cr250 and a 2016 ktm250sxf back to back, and they almost felt like the same bike weirdly

@@pilsnerfamilymotorsports3275 I’ve got to disagree on you on this one, I own an 05 Cr250 and it’s much faster than the 22 crf250r I tried out recently. Although the 4stroke is lighter and snappier the 2 stroke has much more power

@@ryanbarker4422 thats with any bike though, ive been blessed enough to ride almost all of them, and find i can ride a ktm 125 on most tracks as fast as i can a 450, not so much on the older 125's though they're just too slow by today's standards, though an absolute blast to ride

The 96 CR 250 was an amazing bike in the desert especially if you add steel clutch plates to give it a bit of flywheel, an FMF fatty and run the jetting sea level 172-175, 52 needle in the third position, race gas w/Castor 927 40:1 and it will rip. I never had a problem in 3 years racing/riding this bike every weekend not one DNF. Run OEM honda pads and you won't have any brake issues.

I wanted to ride again & my son asked me what I wanted. I said I'd be happy with a CR250, but costs are astronomical, so he got me a KTM 300. Funny thing about some of these older strokers, son has a brand new 22 injected KTM 300 & my 08 carby model is quicker. I laugh every time.😂
