All I'm thinking about is the first day I got flying in TBC and I spent hours that night just flying from rock to rock in Hellfire Penninsula. I was infatuated with the sense of freedom it gave me to just want to go to a place in the sky, and then curve and zoom my way around, carving out close calls and smooth landings with any surface I could interact with. And that was all with a fixed, static speed. The idea of taking that flight planning I was doing and fun I was having and have it _matter_ is making me a little giddy inside.

Oh, I remember that experience as well. And also when flying got enabled on good old Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms. I also remember some voices that claimed introducing flying was a bad idea because that left the ground area feeling empty. While I could see that argument, I could not completely agree. And after having played another game with flying mounts around that didn't feel empty at all it was clear to me that the problem never was the flying, it was not designing the world and questing experience with flying in mind. I hope they nail that part as well.

Future form of dragon riding: mounts will be built to allow for dragon riding in the future. Dragon riding will have its name and abilities changed to a generic variant. A toggle will be added to swap from dragonriding to classic flight. Druids will get a green dragon welp form. They will occasionally release a re-rigged older flying mount into a dragon rider. (Imagine various engineer mounts firing a rocket booster to gain speed or height.) Then the fun starts: some mounts gain hgt fast but dont boost as far, some are slower to get moving but reach a higher top speed. Gta has survived for 8 years on a vehicle sandbox. Wow might cash in a bit on that.

I tried out dragon flying raw, no upgrades, no glyphs, just 3 vigor. I was able to get up to the sky box with some clever swoops. I had to work at it, but, I actually felt good challenging myself.

One of the drakes is bases on the wyvern animations, so I'm pretty sure that further down the line, they will simply have a copy of Dragonridding that fits most (if not all) mounts. It will _just_ be a question of making animations for more mount-types like Gryphons.

why though? I mean sure it'd be nice, but right now with the systems they have it could work a lot easier. we already need a separate skill to activate dragonriding, so when implementing dragonriding in the rest of the world they can just do it like it is in DF, separated dragonriding and old flying mounts. where old mounts won't have dragonflying abilities, but new dragons will. don't get me wrong, it would be nice if they'd implement it on other mounts too. but like, there's really no need for it. maybe you can make a case for having older dragon mounts to work this way, but for some of the other flying mounts it'd just feel weird. (flying horses, choppers, mechaspoder, mimiron's head, rockets,... + sky golem for gathering might be weird AF with dragonriding) so although it sounds interesting, either they keep it separated as is and enable it in the old world, they handpick a few (styles of) mounts to activate it on, or decide to do all mounts. and if they want to do them all, that would be a shitton of work. and tbh, I'd prefer them to put their team on other (more important) things, than on spending ridiculous amounts of manhours on creating a different style of dragonriding for your rocket/flying disc/... they'd prolly be able to create half an expansion just on the time it would take to give all like 700-800? old mounts the dragonriding treatment with their own riding styles depending on mount type etc.

Of corse that's assuming blizz even implements dragon riding outside of the dragon isles

@@cerulean5032 true, that's obviously a good point, but I'd rather have them slowly introduce more mounts with it (and retroactively adjust others with the same models, like add a new gryphon mount= all older gryphons can now also use 'advanced flying') rather than try to adjust the hundreds of current mounts all at once. If DF is a worthy expac, then they need to keep that momentum going, and having the knowledge that "older mounts will get it eventually, but they'll focus on content" would put me more at ease than "we'll adjust them all in the next patch" cause then either the patch will be very late, or the patch's content quality will be lower cause half the team is fixing mounts xS

In Bellular's latest video, he speculated the next expansion will do a new world revamp. That would be the perfect opportunity to apply Dragonriding to the old world, maybe even apply it to older dragon mounts, like the pre- order Emerald Drake.

They've already said that adding it to dragons is no problem (If the camera breaking on some dragon models at 9.2 is an indicator it's already done), it's the mounts that don't have the same models, and the racial proves there's no actual issues with compatibility in the old world, it's more they want to constrain it to dragonflight in case people get sick of it and it's scrapped next expac. A world revamp is not really necessary for any of this, and if it was, it'd be more tailored to whatever new feature/refinement/focus they've added with "Mounts 2.0" as a bonus.

I think it would be cool if they just went through the mount list and made all the winged mounts, or plane/rockets convert to this system, and then the magic, hover, airship, harvesters etc retain the old system, or something more similar to it, that would be cool. If I end up really enjoying this system I'm going to be very very disappointed if it's not used after this expansion, but there are definitely situations where the old style mounts are convenient. Like I just need to go vertical a little bit really quick.

I’ll pass on that last part. I was even spamming only keys like junkyard and lower Kara that had the smallest chance to drop a mount I don’t have because of the lack of content in the game. Here is hoping that 11.0 is a massive ass revamp to EK and Kalimdor with this in mind. For the past 2/3 expansions they've been hard updating a bunch of models; A lot of buildings that have yet to be used in the expansions, and updating all the old world models to have the modern look. All I could think of is how the pathfinder system (i.e. walking at first then flying) has served the current thinking around zone design "ok", but how dragon riding can be used for some really interesting different designs. Underground expansions? I mean soaring around tunnels with cliffs jutting out from the sides etc might sound wierd but maybe? I even at a weak moment humoured the idea where the world would be flipped 90 degrees (i.e. an expansion off the edge of the world since we all know its flat ;) ). Jokes aside, there could be some potential for some new types of design if you work with a travel system like dragon riding.

Dragon Riding in WoW is similar in some ways to Flying on a Griffin or a Snow Owl in Ark. Just better in many ways because after picking up speed you keep the speed for longer and it's easier to pick up speed. And the Griffin was one of my favourite travel mounts in Ark.

I said it previously: I would totally like to see his opinion on which flying mount implementation feels better. Even if his judgement ends up favoring WoW. With maxed out talents I can see, that it might be easier to get around than with the GW2 gryphon. But then again: Where is the fun in easy? During this video I noticed some parts about the movement that are still like the old mounts - especially when on ground. Also some of the animations still like the standard flying mounts. But as it is alpha, at least the last one might change till the actual release. And I doubt those would be a huge factor in the final verdict.

This is an easily reusable system in all areas of the game. Bear with me: Winds of the Old World patch: They release an Azeroth Native patch, connecting BE/Draenei zones with the base world (and Cata zones except I guess Vash'jir?) where you go hunting glyphs again. Or maybe it's Runestones this time. Hours exploring the old world again to power up your Dragonflight. Maybe one of the options is 'Hover' which lets you hover in place with a slow stamina drain. Eventually the mount forces you to land when the stamina is gone but that could be like... up to 30 minutes of hovering. Frozen Wings: Northrend. But this time they introduce weather conditions: harsh winds. Because this was the first expansion that introduced a lore reason for not flying at the start having to do with wind conditions and the chill, you'll start to see variations of the continent-based tree. Like... flying against the winds for 30 seconds reduces your speed by 10%. Particular movements shake it off. But when you fly with the winds, you get a 30% movespeed increase. A talent tree option removes the debuff, but maybe it's an optional one. Very small draw backs, very fun pushes. Natural weather currents shoving you up mountains a bit if you fly up them (zoom!). Once again, you go hunting glyphs to train your mounts and yourself to fly and adapt. Then they just release a patch once in a while unlocking Dragon Riding in that new zone. New small changes that make each environment feel a little unique but not annoying to ride in. Add new mount 'rigs' once in a while too. Like Grphons and Wyverns for the old world stuff. And, of course, it can all be toggled off.

WoW is one of those games that I can't stop playing, but at the same time when I DO log in, I am not really having the same type of fun as I would other games. WoW doesn't make me excited whenever I start it up, and as I play it I don't get fully immersed as I would with a game like Elden Ring. I think the one HUGE issue I have had with WoW since I started playing it seriously (end Legion), is that I couldn't play it at my own pace... It constantly felt like I was being whipped into doing certain "optional" chores, that would make me fall behind everyone else. And whenever I (or anyone else) complains about it, there is always a overwhelming amount of players who are ready to gas light you, by telling you all about how "that is just how MMOs are, and if you don't like it then MMOs aren't for you"... 🙄 Sure... "The chores are "optional", and you can play the game COMPLETELY without doing them"... But the problem is that the chores ARE the main content that we are being spoon feed every patch. 👈 People are too focused on the excuse of it being "optional", that they don't see how that content is all we are given outside the standard 'dungeon, raid, PvP' content... 😕 So if you like playing WoW for the "world and fantasy", which btw is what MMOs ACTUALLY are supposed to be, then you ONLY have these crappy "optional content" you can do... Currently Blizzards philosophy, is to reward players for logging in every day and do "optional" chores. Rather than giving us fun challenging content that we can just play at our own pace. SO WHAT if I do all the available content in 1 week, and max out everything..?? It would have been the most fun week I have had in WoW for a LONG time, and it would give me SUCH a positive experience with the game, and keep me coming back while actually feeling excited about seeing the 'log in screen'. Currently if you wanna play WoW, it doesn't feel like you are playing a "fun game", but instead it feels like taking on a new job/obligation/chore. It's this weird... "pee in my pants to feel warm" mindset that Blizzard has, that is causing WoW to no longer be a game that people think fondly of... They are too comfortable with their IP, to where they think they can release these mobile like grindy mechanics, to keep their numbers up by making it appear as if "players love WoW, because why else would they log in every day". 🙄🙄🙄 😕 However... WoW CAN be better if the game takes a more "open approach", where you can do things in your own pace, rather than content being a time gated weekly or daily grind... And I'm SO happy to see Taliesin showing how Blizzards core philosophy is changing towards a more "fun" approach, which will make WoW a much stronger MMO in the long run. 🙂 Dragon riding looks amazing, and I hope they are keeping it the way it is now. I am the type of player who loves open world content, and currently whenever I log in I am wasting most of my time leveling new alts, since the current maks lvl content is so dull. I am basically just sitting here patiently waiting for Dragonflight. 😂 Seeing the Dragonflight changes gives me hope for WoWs future, since atm it just seems like the game is slowly suffocating itself with boredom...

I don't think you can build enough charges to consistently fly between gathering nodes in the old zones, they aren't far enough apart. You need 10 seconds of flying at max speed to generate two charges when you are fully skilled. Druid or Sky Golem with normal flight might still be more efficient.

@@lunaraurora8308 Yes, but it's completely useless at the moment. 10% faster recovery for 3 seconds after gathering. I think on the ground it's 15 seconds per charge, so the talent gives you less than 10% of a use. You need at least a full charge per gathering node, so you can take flight again.

I am a druid and I just don't want my flightform to be obsolete. One of the things that makes my class really special and unique, I can herb while flying, I can just jump of a cliff and transform midair. So many cool things. In ZM there are these flying enemies in the desert who kick you from your mount, and while I fall down I can just go back into my form others hit the ground.

I'm glad you mentioned the Druid flight form. I think my one complaint/concern with Dragonflight over all, as a Druid main, is losing something that's core to our identity as a class in Flight Form. It's bad enough to lose it pre-Pathfinder, but it'll also feel awful without the dragonriding mechanics when it does come back. I would give Blizzard just about anything to be able to do all those swoops and glides as a bird.

I know I'd love to see a few PvP and team-based add-ons to dragonriding, by taking cues from the racing game genre. Drafting behind an ally to save speed and enable greater techniques (particularly at low level.) In world-pvp, maybe we could integrate a health system to the drakes when clashing in the air, or add class identity by giving class-specific abilities (Paladins getting a bubbleshield for greater durability, Demon Hunters using their own wings to add a vertical surge, Mages using their power like rocket thrusters for speed, and so on)

Dragonriding in the rest of the game would be great but I'd like to see a per-mount talent tree that you can upgrade just by using the mounts or "training" them in some way. It'll give people who like to have yet another non-items/power thing to progress through (me included) something additional to do, and let people who just use a favorite mount ot two not have bother with other mounts, if they wish so.

The ONLY issue with the introduction of dragon riding beyond dragon isles, and honestly we've already had that issue before with water strider, is that it will make all other hard-earned mounts feel inferior. But honestly, I will take it and hope that they somehow will fix that issue in the future.

Picking up glyphs sounds like new, modern and most importantly FUN pathfinder! Not to have to unlock whole map and stuff, but pick those glyphs up and it is done! I kinda like that!

Oh geez, I'm glad you mentioned motion sickness I thought I might be going crazy, haven't felt motion sick in years. 😅 I started watching this video and even from the gameplay footage from the very beginning I felt super motion sick. It took me a minute to realize why I started feeling dizzy and nauseous all of the sudden but then it hit me so I scrolled down but kept listening and that seemed to help when I couldn't see the video part. I wonder if it will be better when it's my own gameplay so I know what's coming because I'll be directing it? I don't know but if not, that's really going to suck but I'll hope for the best :) Thanks T&E! 🥰

Personally, I agree with Asmon as to why normal flight will still be a thing. People that just want to go from point A to point B are not going to want to focus on dragonriding every time they want to travel. Normal flight still allows you to go afk while still getting your character safely to your destination without need for input. This is not me saying dragon riding is bad or anything. Quite the opposite, it does look like a lot of fun. But that doesn't mean I or other people will want to do it every time.

i know a lot of players complain about ground mounts but that time at the start of a new expansion when we explore all the new zones on foot is always so enjoyable for me! since it is designed to be explored from the ground, you interact with and see more of the environment, see little details instead of just swooshing fast 100 meters about everything missing most of it.. it's just a different experience. for instance i had so much fun trying to get some treasures in high places in ZM before flying would make it obsolete! dragonriding looks absolutely fun but i do wonder will it change the wow experience for the future expansions beyond dragonflight .. will it stay permanently meaning that zones will now always have to be designed with it in mind.. dragonriding staying or going just creates two different problems but i hope we figure it out

I'll probably keep using standard flying for two reasons. 1: Travel time is a time for me to chill and do other things as well, like smoke, drink some water, whatever. 2: My computer already limps while playing retail, I honestly don't think it could handle all the extra effects, animations and movement speed

There is a way we could not have dragon riding right at the start of future expansions and it be ok. Imagine if we had another story driven intro segment like the start of WoD? (You know, the part almost everyone loved). An action packed intro that kept us stuck on the ground just long enough to make you miss dragon riding that finished by unlocking it would let them use restricted movement to present challenges we can’t just fly over and make us stay in every moment of this theoretical heavily immersive intro segment. And then after an hour, two at most, we get our mounts back and are let loose in the new expansion.

If collecting the glyphs and unlocking the abilities is as much fun as you say it is, I truly would not mind doing it on each character. A few hours picking them up, or just a picking them up naturally while leveling doesn't sound bad at all... sounds kinda nice actually.

I honestly hope this becomes default flying from this point on. Don't know the amount of work it will require to update all mounts for this but i think its worth the effort. They could even make them into mount families. E.g dragons are good for speed, gryphons are good for sustained flight, mechanical mounts are good for accuracy and floatation but lack speed compared to others. If 11.0 brings a world revamp and some areas have their own gimmick that would be great. Like imagine going to Aerie peak and having "the gryphon mini-game" accompanied with lore quests that help you to get to know the world?

the one bad thing is that everyone will be riding around on the same 4 mounts, i love my old flying mounts. When people complained about that they needed the waterstrider to ride on water they changed it so that almost every mount could walk on water with a mount eq.

@@jamescampbell720 cool, I don't play that game. Tried it I enjoyed the platforming and the world events, but found the story quite boring and spread out with awful pacing. To each their own. Shadowlands' story was legit spread out and shit so hooray! That was fun.

@@kyubii972 just more example of blizzard taking ideas from other games and repackaging them and selling them as "NEW" to their playerbase who lives inside the Blizzard Ecosystem and has no idea that Blizzard didn't create these things. They've been lazy in their game creation for a very long time. Recolors have been a trend for a long time but I think the biggest example of 'zero effort' I saw was the legendary DK shoulders in Legion were a Shado-Pan reputation vendor plate shoulder from MoP. Blizzard couldn't even be bothered to recolor them... just cut and paste. Its supposed to be your fancy new legendary system that your expansion revolves around, and youre reusing old gear skins... it was pathetic.
