Brew and Howard have their weekly bonding time watching our latest episode of Mystery Morsels.
This week we’ve got…
The single bottle of coke that killed a healthy 22 year old man.
The dinner that robbed a woman of all four of her limbs.
The intruder that hid inside a woman’s lung for 28 years.
The single tortilla chip that unceremoniously ended a boy’s life.
And the one fatal mistake that turns any spaghetti dinner into a death wish.
And look! Howard has holograms now!

He lived with his parents (presumably) and somehow didn't understand that food goes bad at room temperature pretty quickly unless it is preserved.

You can eat raw meat too, if you want to be riddled with parasites.” When it ended there, with no references and an unfulfilled opportunity to touch on how our diet and health compared then to now - and why, or why not our ancestral diets may or may not give us the green light to brave raw foods or steer clear - I was surprised 😯

@@X-Prime123 I don't know. It was more a scrape really than a cut. It was summer and I was wearing shorts. Just scraped my knee. Thought nothing of it. It started to get sore later, but I still thought nothing of it. Turned red and swollen, but I thought it was a spider or bug bite. Then it turned black and I started passing out. Couldn't keep anything down, not even water. My kidneys, pancreas and gallbladder had all stopped functioning. The only thing left was my liver. I got rushed to the emergency room, then care flighted to a bigger hospital where I was later told they had a surgical team ready to amputate my leg. At the last minute the surgeon made a call to first try an aggressive antibiotic treatment just to see if I responded. Thank God I did. They kept my organs shut down for a week to keep the infection from spreading, had me hooked up to machines, and I was unable to drink anything for nine days including water. It was the worst. They also gave me fentanyl. My sister had to sign a waiver. It made me hallucinate badly. They had to tie my hands to the bed with restraints. What I learned was clean every scrape and cut you get even if with just a swab of alcohol. Clean it and watch it closely to make sure it doesn't get infected.

I drink a crazy amount of Coke(and often Mello Yello or MT DEW) every single day. I usually don't buy cans but I legit drink like 1.5 to TWO 2-liters every day. I know this absolutely can't be good for me but I'm turning 37 next Dec 21st...always drank a lot of soda but especially in the past 10 years. BUT never that much that fast. 1.5 liters in 10 minutes is just INSANE!! Coke is bad to give you gas buildup...but IMO Dr. Pepper is 5 times worse even.

Stomach felt like I swallowed sandpaper and was grinding my insides. Could be because I hadn't had sodas in a very long time and a sudden ingestion like that ain't good, but nevertheless, I switched back to my trusty water. Sometimes carbonated.

I have known people who claim food should be allowed to cool to room temperature after cooking before refrigerating or freezing. Some of these people claim to be chefs. I spent 9 years in restaurants, including being on food safety panels for chains. I am certified as a chef and have been a nurse for 28 years, including infectious disease. yet these people will still argue with me, claiming they know more than I do. Needless to say I would never eat anything they prepared. (I wouldn't trust those people to wash their hands after using the toilet.) Please COOK your food. Promptly refrigerate or freeze food which you will not eat right away.

It depends on a lot of factors. For example, I’ve had a Alfredo tortellini get fuzzy mold after 12 hours, forgotten in an oven. On the other hand, I have no worries about eating pizza left out overnight if the box was closed and it didn’t dry out. Also, theoretically if you were in a completely sterile environment, and had properly cooked food within that, it would stay good for a lot longer than usual(not accounting for staleness). So a clean kitchen will affect the longevity of your leftovers.

I had that for 2 years, I would have to clear my throat every minute, sometimes several times per minute, all day, every day for 2 years. You might have a leaky gut. Cut out milk, gluten and dairy products for a while and see if you improve. If you have gut issues from taking antibiotics or other medicines, get something called "gut-fx", and some good probiotics. They might help.

1) If you have the tools to reliably catch fish, or the ability to make tools, you probably can make fire too. 2) most food we eat in our kitchen has been dead for a while, if you caught a wild fish and ate it straight away the amount of bacteria would be a lot lower. 3) is not uncommon in survival situations for people to get bacteria poisoning from eating meat or even drinking water. Nature is not safe.

Everything is destined to change in life, but some changes are not for the better. It’s the fallacy of evolution. Some changes DON’T benefit the individual, and in some cases actively harm them, but don’t obstruct survivability enough to cause death. I’m talking about the new video format, by the way.

Why do some people like to eat undercooked or just straight up not cooking the demn food? Just by thinking about it makes me wanna puke, not to mention the risk of getting pathogens.

Well thanks a lot brew... i just threw out perfectly good leftovers thanks to this story. I'm sure they're still good, they're only 2 days old, and it all got put into tuper ware and into the fridge before I even ate my plate after coking it, but i just can't bring myself to eat them now thanks to that last story...
