I bought a DW kit in 2001 and it was a pice of art. Hardly ever had to tune them even being on the road. Unfortunately I had to sell them when my daughter was born. Just bought a set of Yamaha stage customs and I think they sound warmer compared to the 3k DWs. DW is still in my heart as one of the best sounding and quality made drums. Recording custom or DW collector’s series are in a league of their own.

I’ve had a few DW kits. I appreciate the craftsmanship and quality of the build. Incredible drums. But I never could find my sound with DW. It’s similar to how guitar players prefer say, a Strat over a Les Paul. There’s just a denseness to DW drums that doesn’t work for me. I prefer a lighter and quicker response. It takes a lot of effort to pull sound out of DW’s and my hands got destroyed when I played them. So Tama Starclassic it is for me.

Those mapex Saturn drums are great drums. Agreed. We checked out over 100 kits at same time. The Saturns finished # 2 for me out of 100 I Could have gone # 1, but they got 2 b/c they are sonically just a tad quieter, but in a colorful wood resonance minute way. @JP-jm9fy3 жыл бұрын
@@THEATREofPAIN270 I think at this point I would be fine with a good DW kit that’s versatile for both studio and concert use. It don’t have to be full on custom. Although I could agree that it would be like the ultimate in super cool but not necessary. No a good DW kit that sounds good and is versatile is just fine. I think that would be on the more affordable side for me. I’ve seen them go for anywhere from around 900 bucks for a used kit but still in decent condition to around 3500 for a new one and up to 10 to 14 thousand. If I could get a nice looking DW, maybe on the slightly used spectrum, for around 2000 or maybe less I’d be happy. I agree with you though it’s still good to dream.

From the time wood is taken off the shelves and placed into the molds, until they are wrapped and packed, how long does this process take for a standard 5 piece? A Week? A month? 5 months? Just curious as to the length of time a build takes.

Of course anyone who shells out this kind of money is going to swear by the sound superiority of various woods and adhesives. It's human nature. Top quality heads, knowing how to tune and properly functioning hardware will get you where you want to go. The real eye-opener, ironically is blind testing. But high end drum shells are definitely aesthetically superior. Like jewelry.

@warrenoids4 жыл бұрын
Because customization. Take a look at the performance series. They're cheaper because there is no custom options.
@jareddoran66054 жыл бұрын
DW charges a lot not only because of customization, but also because of the high labor costs and business taxes in the USA, and even more so in California, where DW is. Meanwhile, brands like Sonor and Pearl charge more than DW, and neither of them have to compensate for extremely high labor costs and taxes, because neither of them are from the US; yet nobody bats an eye. Hating on DW has become more of a trend than DW themselves.
@carlosdiaz54863 жыл бұрын
@@jareddoran6605 thats facts. Labor costs here in the USA vs literally anywhere else would be higher lol. The reason the design is super cheap for DW is because they make them in Taiwan.
