My hope is continued improvement on resolution & color depth -- because color e-ink would be perfect for digital art frames. With no glare or backlight, the average person could have believable museum-quality artwork on-demand in their home.

I bought an E ink reader today and was curious as to why I wasn’t getting eye fatigue after hours of reading, like I used to have when I read on my phone after 30 minutes, so thanks bc you really cleared that up for me. And I think it’s really going to be the future of technology once it’s improved well enough.

After a bad concussion last year, I can’t look at regular screens very long without eye and head pain. E ink is a game changer for people like me. I’ve always thought it was fascinating, and it baffles me why there are so many filters and glasses out there to help our eyes cope with LCD screens, instead of making screens like this that don’t hurt us.

I wouldn’t say eye fatigue isn’t a thing with readers for everyone, I have light sensitivity so for me even with a black background and the lowest setting of brightness I can do while still seeing and the highest warmth setting it still is a lot for my eyes, and enough to,e of that hurts, I like to read before bed in a dark room while laying down, tho I do read in the day too, so it’s really not got enough, I decided oled is better cause the black is true black not grey, when I look at my kindle dark mode it’s still more grey than black and enough light it hurts, since oled iPad doesn’t use the lights if it’s true black it’s less strin on my sensitive eye, now if only the warmth on either devices could be higher for accessibility, on my phone I can make it like super pink whites on very dim screen brightness really helps me to read manga etc or even webpages with out hurting my eyes, and my ability to fall asleep technically, I do this in an android phone where I downloaded an app to go beyond the original blue light filters and brightness settings of the device, and there is no such thing for kindles, and iPads idk I haven’t checked their apps for that. I hope accessibility one day Improves for these things, I always feel I’m needing a feature that isn’t available. (Ie Bluetooth remote page turner for kindle, which is why I now use my oled iPad for reading at home, suddenly my kindle is just for daily outside things and that is rare since I barely leave home cause of chronic fatigue. I found this video because I was searching to see if oled ereaders (that I can use any reading apps on) that can use a Bluetooth remote exist, but nothing exist, the title of this made me curious cause I always want to know how stuff works or is made lately, I wish I’d been able to be an inventor, my brain is going to waste thanks to my disabilities preventing me to do any normal jobs or learn new stuff thanks to my new reality of limitations. At least I can read and occasionally write stories again. But more people like me should have a say in the accessibility features they add, it’s ashamed how much kindles are lacking in my opinion. I literally even told them my issues with the accessibility it lacks before the new one was released but they must have already been meaning it so I guess they don’t care.

Personally, I much prefer my ereader and iPad/tablet to be separate devices. The iPad Pro is a huge device (even the 'smaller' model) at little over 2x larger than my Kindle. Premium devices like iPad are also made of aluminum which is heavy unlike the lightweight plastic of the Kindle/Pocketbook. Then you have devices like the Kindle Oasis that have an ergonomic design and physical page-turn buttons. Would an e-ink iPad be great? Sure! Especially for artists looking for that paper-like feel but even with color those displays would pale in comparison to even a sub-1080p 60hz display. Can you imagine going from OLED/120hz to e-ink? Maybe in 5-10 years but by then LED displays will already be going to a territory that e-ink won't be able to touch.

OLED is a light source - E Ink generates no light of it's own. It's truly like an electronic ink printed page. The brighter it is outside, the brighter and clearer an E Ink display is. No eye fatigue with E Ink. OLEDs are much better with video and have far better contrast but they are very power hungry and subject to image retention/burn. My 16 year old Kindle still works the same as when new and lasts for *weeks* on a charge. Two different displays for diffferent purposes.

@@ohger1 Generally when I read fantasy books on my old white paperwhite I pull up the relevant maps and glossary on my pc or phone. That's one thing physical books do better IMO, it's easier and faster to dogear a map or glossary page for later reference. On my kindle I have to spend like 10 seconds opening up my bookmarks, finding the specific one out of the dozens I've made (bad habit lol), and the UI is pretty unresponsive and slow on my kindle model at least.
@ohger13 ай бұрын
@@barahng Totally agree - I much prefer having a physical book, magazine, or newspaper in my hands, but the Kindle can be really handy travelling. But if we accept the warts that come with E readers, a color one would be nice if it doesn't take away the performance of the monochrome version. Paper VS electronic.. I used to be a service center for RCA when they were in business. They gave us DVD ROM schematics but (thank God) provided paper back ups. Some of their high end TV chassis were over 100 pages of triple fold out front and back schematics. Trying to chase a serial clock/data problem through that chassis was a nightmare with the computer schematic because of the amount of pages and switching from one screen to another. With paper, I could have several pages in my fingers at once.
