It's a shame there wasn't an inclusion of Ann Morgan-Gilbert as next door neighbor Millie Helper! She always did such fantastic comedy whenever appearing! Another note - the movie with Elvis was actually called "A Change of Habit", where Moore, Barbara Mcnair and Jane Elliott were nuns that posed as regular citizens in an inner city community.

From what I heard at the time of Mary Tyler Moore's passing, Carl Reiner heard that Mary wasn't in too good a shape (she was in a coma) so he asked someone to go to Mary's bedside and whisper in her ear, it's okay Mary, you've done well, it's ok for you to go. Eerily enough not long after that she passed. Of course it's probably an urban legend, but who knows......

@@FactsVerse I just love "My Three sons". The first five years were best. Once William Farley left due to bad health, the show was still really good for about one more year. But that's just me. Fred Mac Murray was excellent and was what every kid wanted for a Dad, at least back then. Lucille Ball had a new show several years after "I love Lucy". It was called "The Lucy Show." She played a widow with two kids and Vivian Vance played her best friend and border as Vivian Baxter who had a son and was divorced. It was almost like watching the best of "I Love Lucy" only without Ricky and Fred.

Dick Van Dyke is a national treasure. If you haven't seen it, I do recommend checking out his guest cameo doing Step in Time on Broadway. I would say he shared his longevity with his castmates. Based on what you've said, many of them lived into their 80s and 90s. Those are pretty good runs by my measure. Personally, I also really lived Richard Decon. He was the embodiment of the pencil pushing antagonist is many TV shows and films. He found his spot as a character actor, and he played it well.

Right after the series was canceled, I remember Mary appearing in the film "Thoroughly Modern Millie" (1967), with Julie Andrews. A shame Mary wasn't 'Millie,' as that was her best friend (and neighbor) in The DVD Show. Mary played Miss Dorothy Brown, with Julie Andrews as Millie. This video left out Ann Morgan Guilbert, who provided such great support as Laura's best friend, confidante, and plotter, just as Vivian Vance superbly did with "I Love Lucy." Two of the best sitcoms in tv history, and both broke new ground in the creation and performing of sitcoms!

The naked lady with her toe caught in the bathtub faucet was 'lifted' from George Axelrod's Broadway hit "The Seven Year Itch" . Marilyn Monroe's character tells the story about herself in the movie version which drives horny Tom Ewell nuts. Lucille Ball lifted the bit as well . Axelrod also wrote "How to murder your wife" movie starred Jack Lemmon , "Goodbye Charlie" movie starred Tony Curtis.

The narrator made another big error. Mary's son Richard, 24, did not die of a self-inflicted wound (i.e., suicide) in Oct. 1980. it was an accident, so not a true suicide. The small shotgun had a hair trigger, and it took so little pressure to shoot it, the coroner ruled his death accidental in his handling it. The gun was later removed from the market. Eerily, Mary's film "Ordinary People" was released 3 weeks earlier, about a mother grieving over her son who dies in an accidental death. And, of course Ritchie Petrie was her tv son's name, very close to her own real son, born in 1956, just one year after Larry Mathews ('Ritchie') was born in 1955, starting the series at only 5 with the pilot filmed on Fri. Jan. 20, 1961, same day of Kennedy's inauguration. He is now the only other survivor, at 66 (Aug. 15, same date in the year as Rose Marie), her birth year was 1923, two years before Dick's birth on Dec. 13, 1925.
@frogger1952

But it was a self inflicted gun shot wound, just not an intentional self inflicted gunshot wound. The gun was removed from the market, then later re sold after the manufacturer made changes to the hair trigger. In the early DVD shows, Laura's maiden name was Meeker after her real life husband's name. Then after MTM divorced Meeker, the show changed her character's maiden name to Meehan,

Far too many people mispronounce the last name of DVD's character. You and they say PEETREE when it is properly pronounced PE- (like in pebble) tree. If you watched the show youvare reporting abiut, you would KNOW that. I watched most of the episodes numerous times. Dick was a master of physical comedy qnd did it well in many episodes. The chemistry between the two was unusually magical. Mary wasn't a very physical person so all rhoe romantic scenes between them only appeared genuine. I just learned recently that Mary had a son named Richie and her TV son was also given the sane name.

Dick Van Dyke was one of those few and by that I don't I 1or 2 people who was put on this earth to help other other people, as many other actresses and actors were! They brought us out of ourselves,( where many like to do!) They made us think and realize that we can do anything if we just try and keep trying! Those (the words keep trying), have been lost! But, I sure hope there are people who just keep on trying, no matter what! Sadly I was not one of those people! But, God has seen fit to just keep on trying with me! I know he will if you just ask him¡!!!!

The show was 'smart' and opened up some taboos. I never missed it. There is a story that Dick heavily resented his show being on the same night as the Beverly Hillbillies. I don't know if that is true, but I don't blame him.

The conservative time (1961-66) had one old taboo: no married couples could sleep in the same bed. Twin beds was the rule, same with the older tv series, for example, "The Donna Reed Show" (1958-66), and even "All in the Family" (1971) had Archie and Edith sleeping in twin beds.

Twin bed rule no longer in effect by the time of Bob Newhart show. Hooray ! Mary's Capri slacks ruffled some white collar feathers, but started a new fashion paradigm. I recall an episode where Archie Bunker had to share his marital bed with "meathead".....I. don't remember twin beds at all

Dick Van Dyke was a heavy drinker at the time and was so after the show went off the air. While it's not flattering today, you could say it was the alcohol that preserved him all these years and allowed everyone to be awarded with his incredible and astonishing acting and dancing abilities.
