In Albanian we also call our children Mother and Father as well. I think it is with how express ourselves. Like parents would say "shpirit I mamit/babit" which translates to Mother's/Father's soul. It's an affectionate way of calling to your child to let them know you're everything to your parents. We also say "Të keqen mami ty" probably a shortening of "të marsha të keqen" which means something like "May I take your bad luck" or "the bad things that would happen to you may they happen to me instead."

Oh i am surprised by it too, cos in bangla too, not only parents but strangers too we refer to children as "maa"(mother) and baba(father). However its not only reserved for children but for very senior citizens we refer to them as maa and baba. I thought bangla was the only one language in the world who did it to show respect as i havent seen it in any other indian languages. My parents still call me baba in my 20s and i love it 😊

The bit with parents calling their kids mother or father is like a very affectionate way to talk to your kids, it is like saying "darling" but switching it with your "position" (which does makes better sense in the language, I never really thought about how it sounded in English) and I say "position" because as was said in the meme, in Bulgaria it works with practically any elder relative, mothers, fathers, grandmas and grandpas, aunts and uncles so on. Yeah, think translating it to "my darling" in your head if you are ever confused is the way to go.

Except that what really save lives when biking, is making bike lanes more safe, not making bike helment mandatory. In the netherland basically everyone rides a bike (the dutch have a huge bike ownership pro capita) and they also have the least amount of cyclist deaths in the world Plus i am pretty sure living in a car centric city, is way more dangerous then not wearing an helmet
