In the UK, people can understand each other while skipping over some parts of words or even entire words because it saves energy and sometimes taking away letters makes it easier to tell how the speaker is feeling so the listener doesn't have to think as much. We can also speak English in a way that includes everything that should be pronounced though in case non-native speakers need to understand us.

I use yyyy-mm-dd always with leading zero's. It SORTS correctly. when having to use the Month/Day/Year or Day/Month/Year formats, use the 3 letter month abbreviations instead of numbers. No confusion when it gets read and interpretted.

I had to fix someone's card machine which kept 'jumping around months' and showing up on accounts as fraud. They were trying to reset it but it just rejected the date. I just had to go into settings and change it from 'American Format' to 'Global Format.' The day was above 12 so the machine would not accept it as a month input.
