Not sure if an electric vehicle can handle a road trip? Well we took a trip across Michigan in two different EVs to see if it was possible. Not only is it totally possible, but we also saw how tech-forward Michigan is in the mobility space!

And electric grids can't handle a lot of e-vehicles at the same time. California asks residents not to charge their cars when the grid is being pushed hard. Lol

@Louie_Vision
@Louie_Vision 10 ай бұрын
That doesn't make sense. Your car gets at best 300 miles per full charge assuming you don't have the ac or heater on and Tesla charges 0.41 per kw. And your car has a max of 81kw battery. That's at least $250. You more than likely got 250 miles per full charge at best so that would be more than $300 just to get there.

@raemill4089
@raemill4089 11 ай бұрын
@@baoanprounited That's a misconception bc you actually dont want or need charging stations to have that density. Most EVs are going to charge at home 90%+ of the time. You only need charging stations for road trips, the time you forget to charge up overnight or if you have no means of charging at home. A charging station on every corner like a gas station would be a tremendous waste. They need more EV charging than is out there now, for sure, but no where near as many as gas stations.

I did a road trip with a Model Y and I hated it! The car is fine but the number of stops to charge and the time it took was rediculous. What normally takes me 8.5 hours to drive (gas) to Vegas was 10.5 (electric). All stops were at Tesla stations which are not all equal. Some were 75kwh and some were 250k so times varied. This was a test for my wife and I on making a decision to go electric or not. We like long road trips and decided e-cars are not for us.

I think anything past a 6 hour trip on an ev it does kinda suck. But there are apps that will tell you what the charging speed is on certain Tesla stations. Being from Ann Arbor & owning a Mach-E, charging is a big concern when we leave the state. Yes, we can charge at more and more Rest Areas, but I'll be really happy once Tesla opens up their chargers to other EVs, allowing for a true road trip. We went to Sandusky and I had to drive 30 minutes away to find a charger for my car, while Tesla was right down the street from my hotel.

Good question and the answer is that it can vary. The price they were charging on those stations he charged at was pretty high. I've not ever seen them that high in the south east. So a charging session at Electrify America usually comes up to $14 - $22 on my road trips. That gets me about 250 miles or so (on road trips in EVs, you dont charge to 100% at superchargers bc it takes way too long. You charge to like 80% and move on. My car can do that in 20 mins or less. The F150 is slower to charge than mine and has a slightly bigger battery). Now most of the time I charge at home and that costs me about $50-$80 a month with my daily driving to work and all. So for road trips, you can do a bit of math to see how much gas would cost to go the same distance. Gas car likely going to go much further than 250 miles on a full tank, but it'll cost more for that tank. That depends on your MPG and driving style and same applies to EV. It might not work out in everyone's favor to go electric vs gas.

Waiting an hour or more for a full charge on a family road trip is impossible. Try driving from Michigan to Orlando with kids in the car and have to sit at a charger for that long several times coming and going. Conveniently no mention of the slavery involved with the acquisition of the minerals to make the batteries. Also no mention that mare greenhouse gasses are produced in the mining, manufacture, and transportation of the batteries than a similar gas vehicle would produce in it's standard lifetime. Yes, EVs sound really cool when you ignore all of their negative aspects.

I don’t know if Michigan just has their shit together with their charging infrastructure because this is the first time i’ve ever heard someone so positive about a non-Tesla charging experience. Honestly feels a little sus, like this is a Ford sponsored video (i didn’t notice a disclosure). Usually non-Tesla chargers are either out of order or don’t charge at the speed their supposed to or something.

Oh, you never care about engine sounds until you listen a true car sound like a Lambo or a GT3 🌚❤ I'm a car guy and I don't care about engines in normal cars 😂 I'll gladly drive Electric Civics and Mazdas in the future 😂❤️

Dude this guy probably makes over 1 million per year. You don't think he's been in super cars. If he says he doesn't care about engine sounds it's because he's been in them and doesn't care lol

No thanks I don't like the fact you have to sit a wait... It just makes the trip longer plus do this in the middle of winter then show me how long the battery lasts

Yes, Teslas are easy with many routes covered by Superchargers, others are hard. Hopefully the recent NACS standard arrangements evolve into good improving road trip coverage for all, we will see.

Electric chargers in the road is a bad idea cuz we all know they going to start charging people to even use the road at that point
