wtf!?! I just listened to that pansy ass song "all I want is you" and... maybe it would've been alright, I might've find something I liked about it & not entirely hated it... if I hadnt expected something completely different sounding by the opening heavy low droning chord u played in this video!!! u fucking tricked me! and.. whoever else got excited by your crazy wind-up intro & that sick "black/stoner metal"chord. so... do u even have songs like that?! cause I like all types of rock music and I haven't heard a good new stoner metal song in awhile. was that all just for jokes? or do u actually play different styles of music like metal, or only songs like that fluffy candyass song u plugged here in this video's comment?!?!?! ps: if not... I know it probably won't be that influential for me to tell u this, but fuck it, it can't hurt to try... you should totally branch out musically and write some different kinds of music, maybe some indie garage rock, blues rock, punk rock n' roll, metal, grunge etc... u seem to have the right look n feel, maybe talent as well.

No joke, for the first month I couldn't figure out for the life of me why nothing I play sounds even remotely similar to what Marty Schwartz was showing me. A month later I realized I've been "tuning" my guitar by sort of trying to get all the strings to be the same tension, by feel. Not by ear. By feel. That was a huge facepalm. I was like 11 in my defense.

@sophxxm6 ай бұрын
damn i’ve been playing for 3 months pls drop some tips 😭😭🙏
@patrickshepherd13416 ай бұрын
@sophxxm lol that's pretty broad 😆. Here's a couple. First, you probably know this already, but DON'T use finger guards unless you have a medical reason for doing so. Much better to build up resistance organically. Second, MEMORIZE all the notes on the fretboard (trust me, I still don't know them and it really gets in my way a lot, especially during improv). This is because it is like soloing on cheat mode. The reason is that, when you're learning to improv and you're trying to get used to chords changing underneath you, it's useful to know exactly where to land when that chord change hits, which is a good transition to start playing in another scale than you were a second ago. If you're not positive where to land, it makes that context switch really hard. Third, DON'T skimp on music theory. I used to avoid it like the plague because I was afraid the rules and rigor would get in the way of the feel. What I didn't realize is that music theory is nothing but a shortcut to learn note relationships without having to figure it all out from scratch, which takes way longer. For instance, when you have a song in some major key, if you go down three frets you can play minor and still be in the same key. Don't lock yourself in though. The goal of learning music theory is to find out what we know already, and see where the gaps are. Usually if "music theory" says one chord doesn't follow another, or one note doesn't belong in a particular scale, that chord or that note is the starting point for something that sounds unusual and cool. Learn music theory so you can see what it DOESN'T tell you how to do, and explore that. Last, it's all about muscle memory. If you have a part of a song that's hard for you to get, take it 3 to 4 notes at a time. I have a few licks that I always end up going back to because my hands recognize the feel of playing them so well. Remember, all of music is just little 2, 3, and 4 note runs that are chained together. Get the muscle memory for all the little doodles, and you'll have a broad palette of combinations you can build from them. Last last (I thought of another one), learn as many songs as you can. You don't have to have them memorized forever or anything, but each week or two, pick out a couple songs to at least follow along with. The place you're gonna get most of those cool licks I mentioned from is by playing someone else's song and going, "ooh, that little bit was cool; I'm taking that". Lol I hope that's helpful. Please let me know, and I'll think on it too see what else I come up with if you're interested. I didn't want to write you a book though.
