My favourite thing about Mr. Blue Sky is where it sits on the album. They have all these depressing, but beautiful, rain songs like standing in the rain or big wheels turning and then the sun comes. Side 3 on the record is telling a great story and I love that.

Everyone remembers the very first concert they went to. Mine was ELO. Great show by a great band. Thanks for sharing Mr. Hobs. You're on quite a roll lately. My very 1st concert, September 1st 1978 Tarrant County Convention Center Ft. Worth Texas. I was 11 yrs. old. ELO on the Out of the Blue tour . Giant white "hamburger" spaceship onstage, Trickster opened. After that, the lights go down.....the top "bun" of the spaceship lifts up......smoke pours out....green lasers stabbing through the air all over the place........smoke clears a little...and inside of that thing: Jeff, Bev, Kelly, Mik, Richard, Hugh, Melvyn ... violin, cellos, and lasers, oh my! The music starts with violin and cellos climbing up to crescendo.....then that thunderous Bm 1st chord of "Showdown"......and 11 yr old Mikey ain't been the same since.

It's not just uplifting. The message is sad, and the point of the uplifting sound is to juxtapose "blue skies" (a happy, positive thing) with "Mr. Blue", who is portrayed as lost and emotionally blue.
